I'm starting to think that's probably for the better. I haven't had much faith in Disney making a proper sequel to this with the way most of the live-action remakes have gone so far. A lot of hype and enjoyment for the 2 or so hours in the theaters but nothing really satisfying afterwards to hold onto.

I don't have much faith it'll be a good sequel either (if it eventually goes into production), I'm mainly looking forward to this for Alan Menken's songs and the 2D animation.

Enchanted is the last Disney film where I was satisfied with Menken's songs. It's a real shame that two of his unused songs for that film (the title song between Nancy and Edward and Narissa's villain song) have never been heard despite promises that they would be included on the DVD. Although I think in the WIR2 thread, Menken mentioned that he was reusing some old deleted songs of his for new ones and he was saving one in particular that was assumed to be from Enchanted.

I still hopp for a Sequel and i don’t at all agre i think Disney still makes good Live Action movies and you are mean who say otherwise !

It bothers me that Disney was still making deluxe 2-Disc DVDs or amazing 2-Disc Blu-Ray sets for their films in 2008 like Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty, WALL-E, Prince Caspian, Pirates of the Caribbean (although At World's End didn't get the same golden treatment as the previous two POTC installments), but Enchanted got a barebones release in comparison. Not that it was devoid of bonus features, but it really only had a handful and all the interesting cast interviews and making of tidbits were reduced to unlockables in a Blu-Ray only game and you have to repeat the whole process if you ever want to watch them again.

We feel the same way, James.
Q: Even though all production is on hold right now, it seems as though there’s finally some actual active development for the Enchanted sequel. Have you read a script? Have there been actual conversations with you about it?

James Marsden: I’ve not read a script. I hear they’re working on it. I hear they’re working on the music. I’ve had a couple of texts from some people involved. That’s the extent of it. My fingers are crossed. I’m to the point now where it’s been so long since we’ve done the first one. Every year that goes by, we talk about it and I get my hopes up, but it doesn’t happen. I’m glad to see it gaining some steam ‘cause I do think it would be a lot of fun, getting that band back together. But I also don’t wait for it, really. You’ve just gotta go forward with other things that are real. It looks real. I don’t wanna say it doesn’t look real, but I’ve been burned before. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Yes, that's the only attitude you can have with this at this point. If it happens, great. If it doesn't, I'm not surprised anymore.

I don't know if this movie would work after so many years before the release of the first one. We have to admit that big part of the audience have not saw the first one so I think that it won't have a big success as it could have 2 or 3 years before the release of the first movie so I believe that they're not going to take any risks if They don't have a good script and a story that they now that is going to work

About the extras of the first one ther's a french edition with a making of. I have this edition but it's in french and I only saw it once so I don't remember what it tells

Yeah, Disney hasn't made any effort to keep this film in the public consciousness, at least in the US. In Japan, the film is fairly popular and it does get promoted on CD albums and merchandise from time to time so I'm not sure about the rest of the world.

I'm glad the French got a proper making of. Even Japan got a 2-Disc DVD which I posted about some time back in the main Enchanted thread. It wasn't packed with bonus features but it had more than the American edition. I was really hoping we'd get a 10th Anniversary Blu-Ray in 2007 with the deleted songs, cast interviews, the full making of, etc. but no such thing.

BTW, I love your signature. It has six of my favorite films of all time!

I belive that if Giselle would have been a Disney princess the film would have been more beloved and the public would remember it.

While animated Giselle resembles live-action Giselle/Amy Adams, she looks different enough...so I've never fully understood the whole "Amy Adams would need to be compensated for her likeness" by including Giselle in the Princess Collection, you know? Unless her contract stipulates that. It's such a unique case, I guess, since most movies don't have the same character as live-action and animated. I mean, does/did Hilary Duff get paid for every animated Lizzie McGuire doll/t-shirt that was sold? I know that animated Giselle resembles Amy Adams more than animated Lizzie does to Hilary Duff, but it's the best example I could think of...

I read somewhere that It was in her contract and that's why they didn't include Giselle in the franchise but I think like you...Maybe there're other facts like that Disney have to pay her for use her songs/voice...I don't kno but what I don't understand is why they release merchandise sometimes like last d23 dolls. Did they pay the actors for that?

I never felt there was much of a resemblance between Amy Adams and animated Giselle either but I'm sure they did at least somewhat base their animated model off of her so that resemblance probably counted enough in Adams' contract. And yeah, Disney did release that D23 doll set of Giselle and Prince Edward so I'm assuming they did have to pay Adams for that (as well as James Marsden).

I agree though that Giselle would be better remembered had she been an official Disney Princess. My main hope for a sequel actually was that it would revive love for the original and give us new merchandise.

Q: I frequently find myself wondering what song might be stuck in Alan Menken's head at any given time.

Alan Menken: Whatever song I'm working on at that moment. Right now it's a song from our upcoming movie, Disenchanted!

Q: What new projects are you working on?

Alan Menken: I’m excited about the projects I’m doing. I’m working on “Disenchanted” and a new “Beauty and the Beast” prequel, “The Little Town.”

Q: What have you been doing during the pandemic and during the shutdown?

Alan Menken: I've been juggling like eight projects. Stephen Schwartz and I have been working on a sequel to Enchanted, I've been doing a new animated [movie] with John Lasseter's new company, and working on a bunch of stage projects including the full version of Hercules that we did in Central Park last summer. Just a whole lot of stuff. I've been busy every day.

If you flip the image, you can read some of the first page of the Disenchanted script. It seems to open in the animated world of Andalasia. I see the words “The Andalasian Lullaby” and Pip is giving a voiceover.

Amazing catch UmbrellaFish! I wonder if "Andalasian Lullaby" would be a new Menken song?
