The e-mail I sent to Netty wrote:On the contrary, he thought it was one of the worst animated features he has ever seen. Some of his criticisms included the messy story and complicated plot elements, which he felt were too complex for a children's film. He thought there were severe mistakes in the entire future concept of the film, in that he argued "How can you meet yourself!? It defies logic!" He also pointed out what he thought were flaws in the time-continuum element, such as the fact that one cannot revisit the past to re-alter the future. The future is in its last 'revision' all the time. I must admit he has a point, especially since (picture this) if doing something in the past can alter the future, then when Lewis leaves the past for the future, he is temporarily inexistent in the past, meaning that his future self (i.e. grown-up dad) should have evaporated while present-day Lewis was in the future - hence my brother was right when he said that you cannot possibly meet yourself! To further explain - how the hell could Franny have met Lewis and married him if he was never there!? Nevertheless, I feel going into such detail is quibbling, even if this is a seriously noticeable error.
Whatever you do, don't let your brother watch
Back to the Future Part II, better know as
Back to the Future And The Film With 80 Plot-Holes.
Finally, we touched on the animation. I've always thought that MTR is a prime example of some show-stopping animation. I was flabbergasted when my brother said hat he was less than impressed with it. He thought the animation was very weak compared to stuff like The Incredibles or Over the Hedge. He commented on the incorrect useage of colours and texturing.
Well, being respectful to different opinions, has your brother SEEN "The Incredibles"?

Personally, I really find the designs, particullary Bob Parr/Mr. Incredibles' far more uglier.
I mean just look at him, the first half of his body is very muscular and huge, and then the bottom half his legs are totally skinny . There's really NO way such tiny legs can support him, making him just an unbelieveable character that the physics in that character are 100% nonexistant.
I know the whole point of animation is to do stuff you can't make in live-action, but The Incredibles is really between the point of animation that's stylished in a nice way to being so unbelieveable, that you watch the entire film in total disgust. Meet the Robinsons has animation that's so stylished, it looks like the animators had far more fun making that film, yet still look visually plausable. The Incredibles really look like stick figures in comparison. Of course, this is just my opinion. Thankfully your brother doesn't come to this site.
At least the upcoming Ratatouille looks to be a huge improvement with the human designs. I actually think it looks to be one of Pixar's most pleasing animation-wise to date.

last weekend MTR dropped out of the top 20, even lower than blades of glory.

no hope of reaching 100.
do 3-d cinemas screen other movies or just MTR? is it long playing like imax?

I finally saw it. It was okay.
I liked the quote at the end, I liked the breif glimpse of Space Mountain, and I liked the T-rex. Alot of the movie felt forced, at times it was trying too hard to be funny and at other times it was trying too hard to be dramatic and it didn't feel right. This was better than Chicken Little and Home on the Range. This film is worth watching as it has it's moments, but don't expect true Disney quality.

Thanks for that, ichabod. I'm disappointed at how slim the specs are, but there's still the glimmer of hope that "Inventing the Robinsons" is a substantial making-of (at least 25 minutes or more). Perhaps R1 will get a bit more, but I doubt it. If they were to keep this a single disc, trailers, a gallery and featurette detailing the time paradoxes and timelines would've made this a bit more satisfying. Oh, well. At least I have both the teaser and theatrical trailers for the film on my other Disney DVDs.
As for the cover, I hope it gets altered. They picked the most obscure characters to showcase, and the tagline at the bottom is corny.

I really hope the deleted scenes will include a lot of the pre-Lasseter part of the film. And seeing that this is an
animated film, I hope we get to know
how it was animated in the making-of.
Yeah, Disneykid, the cover art is ugly - but I'm almost positive that must simply be temporary. It's definitely not finalized. It has no Disney DVD logo and no spine design. And since it's for the UK release, it should have the "Walt Disney Classics" banner, which you don't get in Region 1.
By the way, off topic here - but I just received Donald Duck Vol. 2 and Disney Rarities Region 1 by post. I finally have two tins! But really, they're not that pretty after all. The embossing on the Disney "D" is imperfect and the tins are dented (

), like they've recieved a lot of bumps on the way to Malta. However, the most annoying thing was the second seal that you find on all Region 1 Disney DVDs, on top of the case. It took a miracle to get it off and it a left a lot of unsightly marks on the tin (you know, that sort of sticky stuff that remains when you remove old tape

)
Oh, and my Brother Bear Region 1 has a label with a barcode on the DVD box, which I can't remove without leaving half the label there (you know what I mean) It's annoying.
That was some long off-topicness.

Well, I can hope R1 DVD art will look better. But whatevs. I'll be happy to have this movie, though a nice making-of would be really cool. Something about the changes of the story, and the voice actors...though I suppose since this won't be geared as much to collectors/adults, it may end up being more of a fluff piece. Sigh. At least I have the film.

YAY, finally some DVD news...even if it's Region 2. I hope we see news for R1 possibly later today. I've been dying to hear about MTR DVD news.
Opinion on cover: It needs to be a bit more organized, it looks cluttered. I like how they included the singing frogs though!

Did anyone receive the VISA Meet the Robinsons CD giveaway?

Any Disney Visa cardholders here?
If you were a Disney Visa cardholder, you were instructed to fill out a group of questions if you saw Meet the Robinsons the first weekend, on the Disney Visa website.
You were then supposed to receive a free movie soundtrack, if you were within the first 500 or 5000 or something like that.
Anyway, I say the movie first day, first showing, and came home and filled out the questionairre. At the time, it said "The Cd will arrive in 4-6 weeks" or something of that nature.
I still haven't received one, and I was wondering if anyone else did?
Thanks.

I assume that no affirmative responses out of all the readers here means that no one has received the cd yet. I suppose that's good because I'm still waiting for mine. I'll let you know if and when it comes.

I was wondering about this, myself. I filled out the quiz as soon as I got home from seeing the film the Saturday of its opening weekend. I got all the questions right and was told I was one of the top 500 eligible to receive the soundtrack. I still haven't gotten mine, and neither has another member of this board (I think it was blackcauldron85). What gives, Disney?

Meet the Robinsons - October 23rd - DVD Discussion

<a href="

<hr>
According to UD's main page, the DVD has been pushed back to October 23rd. It'll contain the following features:
* Audio Commentary by Director Stephen Anderson
* Deleted Scenes
* "Inventing the Robinsons" Featurette
* "Keep Moving Forward: Inventions That Shaped the World" Featurette
* "Little Wonders" Music Video Performed by Rob Thomas
* "Kids of the Future" Music Video Performed by the Jonas Brothers
* "Family Function 5000" Family Tree Set-Top Game
The Blu-Ray version will be released on the same date and contain all of these as well as more deleted scenes (?!) and a "Bowler Hat Barrage" set-top game.
I was hoping that with the release date pushed back and having an abnormally large window between theatrical and DVD releases, Disney would've added more features than we were shown in the UK specs list (well, besides the music videos). It sounds like an okay disc overall, but I still wish there was an art gallery and a detailed featurette concerning the movie's approach to time travel. Hopefully the commentary and "Inventing the Robinsons" featurette cover a lot of ground (the "Keep Moving Forward" featurette doesn't seem to be directly about the film). Anyway, I'll certainly be picking this up as it's my 2nd favorite film of the year, and the fact that it comes out the day before my birthday isn't so bad, either.
Cover art for the Blu-Ray version can be found here:
http://www.ultimatedisney.com/coverart.html#oct23
While I generally like it, I think red isn't the right color choice for the cover. Most of the film takes place under sunny skies, so a sky blue motiff with clouds would've been more appropriate. Still, it's pretty decent, even if Lewis' hero pose is kind of corny.

Not a bad cover, but the background makes it seem like they are on the surface of the sun. (The future: global warming!)
I really wish MTR would get more bonus features, it deserves more than what it contains right now. But I guess the Audio Commentary is something at least.

Ditto. At least the commentary isn't a Blu-Ray exclusive like the one for
Chicken Little *grumbles*
And the whole "deleted scenes on DVD, more of them on Blu-Ray" makes sense, since more people prefer deleted materials to documentaries. So it's one of the hooks for people to upgrade to Blu-Ray.
I'm just hoping "Inventing the Robinsons" isn't an 18-minute fluffpiece like on
Chicken Little or
Home on the Range. Please, please, please, please, please...let it be a nice 45-or-60-minute documentary.
