And staying on topic will make us get more Treasures?
Staying on topic is part of the spell that makes Disney magic work!

I called today to sign up for the Silly symphonies Disc Replacement. :D I'm much more comfortable about it since I will get the discs before I have to send mine to them. They should all work like that, even if a lot of folks don't send the discs in (they're just going to throw them away anyway, but I understand the desire to see proof of purchase). The lady on the phone mentioned something about keeping my receipt, but just sort of offhand. However, I didn't say anything, because, heck, I don't have that receipt anymore! Also, the lady, who was very nice, said something about not getting many calls dealing with the Treasures line. Hmm.

I'm pretty much under the impression now that the Treasures Line is no more.

Looks like it's time to ramp up the phone calls/polite letters/emails!

What time of the year do the content rumors of the next wave usually surface? Was just wondering.

Also, remember the delays that wave 3 experienced? Weren't those delayed for like 5 months or so?

Content rumors for the next wave usually begin to surface around May or June, which unless I'm mistaken is about the time that they produce the bonus materials they plan to feature. Our speculation, however, as to what's still in the pipeline or potentially in the pipeline usually goes year-round.

Wave 3 was delayed by 5 months just as you say, but we still had the rumors going and then confirmation by August for sure of the previous year, as though they were going to be released on their usual date of early December. We just ended up with 2 sets of Treasures coming out that year.

The Wave 3 delay was around changing the packaging after the departure of Roy Disney.

I think you are correct that June or July is about right for when Leonard Maltin and Bill Cotter start telling us what the four sets are.

Well, yeah - so let's hope they will this year as well...

No it wasn't, Roy's name is still all over the wave 3 packaging. The wave 3 delay was because the initial print run was low, and demand for the titles (particularly OTFL) meant Disney postponed the release to get more copies.

That, and Disney needed the extra space to meet demands for the DVD releases of Nemo, Lion King and Pirates.

Has it ever been given an official answer why Swamp Fox and Elfago Bacca were combined rather than doing their own releases? Swamp Fox could have fit on one DVD set with only 8 episodes. I kind of want to see how it ends and it leaves off on a cliff hanger the way that it is. I find it to be better than Davy Crockett in some ways. But was there ever a reason why this was done rather than doing a Swamp Fox set and 2 Elfago Baca sets?

Perhaps, ironically, it was done that way in order to save something for future waves.

One of the reasons the lack of Swamp Fox being a complete set on just him was so upsetting to me is that, when I first heard that it was official about Swamp Fox being in a Disney Treasures set, I erased my old tales of the show, which had all episodes in perfect quality... Imagine my disappointment when I ended up with only 3 episodes. I haven't even watched that set yet. I'm a huge Swamp Fox fan though and do prefer it to Davy Crocket because I love the American Revolution subject matter. Love Davy Crocket though.

Well, just to rub it in - I certainly would not have done that... 8)

As for the reason why we got the combined, incomplete set of Swamp Fox and Elfego Baca, I think it was said that they were "testing the water" or something. It was apparently assumed that these titles would be less popular than Davy Crockett, making this the more worthwhile solution - a decision that could be questioned, though...

I just got off the phone with Walt Disney (Buena Vista) Home Entertainment Customer Service. I was looking to both put my name down for a "More Silly Symphonies" replacement and try to get some information from whomever I was able to speak with. Here's what I found out:

• "More Silly Symphonies" is being replaced. The discs are not ready yet, but when they are, people who have previously contacted WDHE will be contacted via telephone and told to be prepared to receive the replacement discs in the mail (they will send them first). In the package along with the discs will be a pre-paid envelope to return the defective discs. This is good news.

• No decision has currently been made on what they are doing with TLA v.1 in regards to the color issue on "Prowler of the Everglades." They are aware of the issue and the lady I spoke with was happy I brought it up. I told her I was pretty sure what the problem was, since when I swapped the red and blue cables in my component video set, the picture looked fine. I put my name in for a replacement if and when they come.

• Although I lucked out and got one of the copies of TLA v.4 with the correct aspect ratios, I asked if she knew anything about what was being done for those who didn't. She had all the information on it, as well, and said that no decision has been made as of yet. She said she was happy I got a good copy, but the more calls they get on it, the better.

Finally, I asked her about the fate of the Treasures line, referencing the conflicting information we've been getting from WDHE Customer Service and Leonard Maltin himself. She told me that the most up-to-date information they have is that the Treasures line WILL be continuing, although she had no information on what the titles would be or even when they would be coming out. When asked if Leonard Maltin was going to be involved with the continuation (citing the latest information we have about his believing the line to be canceled), she said that she did not know, but that she personally hoped so.

So, unfortunately, no press-stopping news, just some reinforcement of what we've already heard, as well as minor clarification on some items. I encourage all of you to call WDHE (800-723-4763) to either request your replacement discs (in the case of More Silly Symphonies), request that defective titles be added to the replacement program (in the case of the TLAs), or to show your support for both the Treasures line and Leonard Maltin.

*Sorry for the double post...I'm putting this in the Treasures and the TLAs thread

thanks for letting us know.

At least it's comforting to know that the people who answer the phone at the customer service want the series to continue as much as we do.

all we can do is hope.

Many thanks for the information, MikeyMouse!

I'll be sure to call and request my Silly Symphonies replacements, and to show my support for the Treasures, and Mr. Maltin! :)

I really hope that the Treasures line continues, and that it continues with Maltin. I would like to at least get the rest of the Donald shorts and the rest of the Rarities (sp?).

Hi everyone,

I posted earlier in the month a letter I sent to Dick Cook. I got a letter back in the mail today and it sounds quite promising:

Dear Greg:

Thank you for your interest in The Walt Disney Treasures Collection and Walt Disney Home Entertainment.

Reports that the Walt Disney Treasure collection have been cancelled are inaccurate. The next wave of the Walt Disney treasures are currently in development. Please check http://disney.co.com/disneyvideos/disneytreasures/ for updates and details about the next wave of this beloved collection.

If you have any additional questions regarding our releases, please feel free to contact us at: Buena Vista Home Entertainment Consumer Relations PO Box 3100 Neenah, WI 54957 (800) 723-4763.

Thank you once again for your interest in Walt Disney Home Entertainment.

Sincerely,
Walt Disney Home Entertainment Consumer Relations US and Canada

What do you all think? I know it is a form letter but atleast stated (in writing) that the line will continue.

Take care,
Greg

Form letter, no doubt, but still looks promising. Sighing in relief again, for a while...
