Well the Platinum line is just for Animated Classics, and Mary Poppins got a very well-put-together 40th Anniversary Edition.

However, I always felt that Mary Poppins should've been part of the Vault Disney line, and that the Vault Disney line never should have died. Then we'd get respectable live-action releases instead of P&S and/or barebones titles.

I'm surprised Pinocchio hasn't had a decent DVD release. How can films like Peter Pan & Dumbo come out before Pinocchio? Dumbo & Peter Pan came out on DVD in 2001 & 2002, with plenty of bonus features, but Pinocchio's latest DVD came out in 2000 (first Disney animated film released on DVD) & all it had was a single trailer! They get brand-spanking new DVD's & Pinocchio is left high & dry? How does that even make sense?

Pinocchio HAS to be a Platinum. My best bet would be in 2008, along with 101 Dalmatians.

Well Pinocchio *did* get a Special Edition release...in R2 and everywhere else except R1. Though, of course, even that wasn't too special. A brief making of featurette, some stills and storyboards, and I believe bonus shorts and sing-a-longs.

Pinocchio shouldn't be bumped to accomodate a re-release of Snow White (rumored as October 2008's PE slot instead of Pinocchio), but SW has always been more marketable than Pinocchio, despite Pinocchio having been OOP for more years than SW.

There have been new news today that Pinocchio is supposed to be released as the 2008 March PE and SWatSD as the 2008 October PE.

101 Dalmatians-Wait or Buy?

Hello-

I just called a Gamestop store about 101 Dalmatians (obviously the animated version...not the one with Glen Close), and they said they had it for 9.99....lets just say that my mouth dropped. Anyway, I asked if they could transfer it, but the guy said I would have to ask his manager (who apparently has the day off today). So he said to call back tommorow.

But anyway, my question is, do you think I should buy this LI or wait?? The reason I was looking at this in the first place was 1-I was curious as to how much it is in the stores (It's listed as 24.99 online...I was expecting like $13-$16 in the stores..so I was caught off guard! ) and 2- The PE has been pushed back numerous times now...And I don't know how much longer my "Black Diamond" VHS will last.

I really like 101D, (I think its one of the most underrated DAC's among Disney lovers / collectors. (no offense to anyone, but it seems that not a lot of people here really like 101D.)) but its not one of my top favorites...And I was really hoping to get the PE this spring. But then the change in schedule occured and I was like, "Ok...not this spring...I guess I can wait until 2008..." but then we found out that the predicted schedule has Pinocchio and SW for that year...so, I might wind up waiting for at LEAST another 2 years for the PE. But, (like I said above), 101 Dalmatians isn't one of my top favorites, so I'm not too sure if I should spend the extra $$ when I will be buying the PE eventually, and also when I'm buying other Disney DVD's (aka: Dumbo and eventually Alice)...and not to mention that Christmas is coming!!

So what's your opinion on the situation?

In your case, I would definatley get the LI now. I have the LI of 101 Dalmatians (I love the film) and I am glad I do. I am dissapointed that it keeps being pushed back again and again, but I am thankful I have the LI to keep me satisfied until then.

Plus, its only $10, and that's a steal. So, I'm gonna say a big yes on this one.

I would go for it if I were you. $10 is practically nothing considering how hard it is to find that DVD. I think you should buy it. :)

Yeah, if it is something you want, I'd say go for it too! $10 is a steal for that DVD and it looks like it will be over a year and a half before the Platinum Edition is released (or whatever edition Disney ends up deciding to release it as)

Go for it because you will never find 101 Dalmatians at that price and never see 101 Dalmatians again.
It's hard to get Limited Edition of 101 Dalmatians...

SO buy it! I about 2 years ago I was at a pawn shop and there was a LI copy of The Little Mermaid and untill this October 3rd I was always kicking myself for NOT jumping on it. So I'm sure you will love it but if you don't you will be kicking yourself too. Good luck.

Yay!

So, I'm able to transfer the DVD to my Gamestop! woohoo! :D I'm actually really happy now, because apparently my Gamestop that I regularily use (we have 4 in our town) wasn't going to let me have the DVD transfered. This is due to the fact that the Gamestop where its located is out of my region....anotherwords, the Gamestop that has it is in another state. But I found another Gamestop in my town that's willing to have it transfered. And it was approved to go to my region and everything!! yay! :D

On a different note, I really hope that the DVD turns out ok...the guy said it was in good shape and it comes with the case/coverart/etc. (I guess I'm just really suspicious about why it's listed for only 9.99...) So, i'm trying my hardest not to get my hopes too high in case it turns out to be a bootleg, or whatever...but it's hard to keep my excitement down!!! I just LOVE getting new Disney DVDs! (well...its not new...literally...but you know what I mean  ) Only 3-5 days!! :D

Oh, and thank you guys so much for your input on the situation! I also agree: I probably won't find 101 Dalmatians (for 9.99 anyway) again, and I might have no choice but to wait for the PE...which might take a while. Again, a big THANK YOU! I'll let you know how it works out when it comes!!

You can find a copy! All you have to do is go on Gamestop.com, search for 101 Dalmatians (but you must first unlock the feature that hides back-ordered items). Click on the image of the DVD you want. Then type in your zip code in the bar on the right and search in a 200 mile radius. When you find (a) store(s) with the DVD, CALL THEM! And ask them first if they have it, and then what condition it's in (also confirm that it is IN FACT the Disney ANIMATED version...). Then, if all seems well, ask if they can transfer it for you. You never know. If all goes well, you can potentially have a copy of 101 Dalmatians in less than a week! I have had Gamestop/EBGames do this for me about 4 times already! (actually 6 when you include the 2 DVD's i'm waiting for-Dumbo 60th Aniv. and 101 Dalmatians), and it's turned out OK everytime! (or, so far...I don't want to jinx it with the 2 upcoming DVDs!! )

Anyway, good luck with your search! (If you decide to try and get 101 Dalmatians)!! If you decide to go for it, let me know how it goes!!

Thanks! I know that I can do the zip-code thing, but how do I unlock the back-ordered items thing? I'll go try it! Thanks for your suggestion! :D

Here's the way I do it (since you have to unlock it EVERY time you go on their website... ):

First, go on their main page. Then, on the search bar on the left, search for a title that you know is NOT back ordered...such as Fantasia. Then, (if you use that example), Fantasia 2000 will pop up. But, if you scroll just under that item, you will see this: "Show backordered used products that may be available in stores." Now, click on the underlined "Show". And now, you can see ALL DVD's, back ordered or not, and that setting is unlocked. That is, until you exit from that window...then you have to do that all over again...

Man....I feel like I've been using Gamestop/EBGames WAYYYY too much...it's almost like it's addicting!

Thanks! I know what you mean, I use it alot, but I guess they recently just decided to only post items that are not backordered! Durn! The closest GameStop that has 101 Dalmatians LI is in Flushing, Queens, NY (lol makes me think of Fran Drescher The Nanny! LMFAO). Ya think they'll transfer?
