Welcome to the forum! If you want to introduce yourself, you can do so in the "Disney Story" thread, a link of which can be found in the forum rules at the top of the main General Discussion board.
Be warned that some E-Bay sellers may be saying that a product is authentic when it is not. That has been known to happen, so I would be warned. You could always show us the auctions that are being described, as that could help us further determine whether they are authentic or not.
By the way, in case you were wondering, Disney has reported that
Pinocchio is likely to get a 2 Disc Platinum Edition in March 2008 with a restored picture and hours of bonus features, very much in the vein of treatment that films such as
Cinderella, Aladdin and
Bambi got. Bear that in mind, as it's good news and may be a better option to getting the current DVD which is a
supposedly lacking.
Annoying differences in disks - Bootleg possible

So I just got Snow white PE, Beauty and the Beast PE and the Lion King PE from ebay. I bought Aladdin, Cinderella and Bambi on sale, so I am all caught up with Platinum editions now. I am a new disney buyer.
I love all of the DVD's except one. The Snow White has me concerned. I was reading that bootlegs are a big problem with these disks. But this is the problem. The case artwork and case are perfect. No incorrect spelling and the case looks as it should. The inside materials look good too. The second disk is rough printed and silver in color. So all is legit right? Not so fast.
The first disk of the set is deep gold in color, not light gold. And it is smooth printed. Is the first disk bootleg? Gaaar. I think it is. It is the only set I bought used and opened. All the other sets were sealed and correct color. Though the lion king has smooth printing. But so does Aladdin and I bought it in-store.
So out of all the purchases I made, just one disc is bootleg. How frustrating! Anyway, looking forward to buying more discs soon. I just wish disney would stick to one line. They seem a little schizo with the masterpiece, gold, collectors, special and so on editions.
Now I can get a couple of years of use out of them before I have to replace them all with high def DVD's. Ha ha. That's depressing.

I checked my Snow White DVD, and it's a rough printing on both discs as well.
BUT, I remembered that some of my Vault Disney titles had a mix of rough and smooth printing on their discs. My Old Yeller and Swiss Family Robinsons were rough printing, while Pollyanna was smooth printing, and The Parent Trap was half-and-half. So your Snow White may have been a later printing before it went OOP, with a mix of the smooth and rough printing on the disc.
Or of course you could use a computer program to determine if the first disc is a bootleg or not. There's a few threads that mentioned the programs...

The gold is not so normal, but as stated above it is probably just the printing. Besides, if it works fine then maybe you should just be satisfied? Who am I to talk though? I would not be! lol

Hi,
There are some free programs such as dvd decrypter to check the regions of the dvds. Pretty simple procedure just put the dvd in your drive and run the program..You should show regions 1, 4 if it is a boot you will see all regions
0 thru 8...Hope this helps..

Well, I downloaded DVD decrypter. The disk shows up as a region 1 only and has the file name Snow_White. Now I definitely think it is a bootleg. Contacting the ebay seller now. The guy has perfect feedback and doesn't have a ton of DVD's in his history, so I thought I would be safe.

But wouldn't the Region 1 Only classification on the disc and the file name "Snow_White" mean it's NOT a bootleg?
On my cheapass Koss DVD player, if you press "Display", it shows you the file name of the disc, and mine says "Snow_White" as well (and everyone should check that their Star Wars Episode III says "Charlotte"

)

I still wouldn't be too quick to say your DVD's a bootleg. Mine is authentic for sure *I should know, it came brand new with those annoying stickers you have to peel off on the case and all the coupons and crap.

* and it has rough printing on disc 1 and smooth on disc 2.

And from what you've described with everything, it looks as if yours is authentic.

According to the threads on this forum about bootleg Snow White disks, the disk should say "Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs" as the disk name and Region 1, 4
That is part of the problem here. I have seen so much information that contradicts. Disks can be smooth or rough. They can be gold or silver (but this disk is dark gold, not the light gold of most of my other disney disks).

Didn't you read what Escapay posted? He said his also says "Snow_White".
I just checked mine and it is like you described. One disk is silver, one is dark gold, one is smooth printed, one is rough printed. Does it have the "Distributed by Buena Vista Home Entertainment..." writing around the edge of each disk? I'm sure you're fine.
Calm down, your disk is authentic. There is no reason to complain to a seller and give bad feedback if you probably have a legit copy but don't want to believe it.

bigfrank, my SW disc is also a darker gold than most.

Hi,
Just to throw in another comment here. I think your disc is the real
thing. Every boot I have seen always show all regions..(0-8)
I don't think that a just Region 1 bootleg can be made..
I think you are OK..Enjoy the movie...Hope this helps..

There are several printing variations of Snow White as Escapay stated.
I believe that your copy is authentic

MinnieMe is right, your disc is authentic. My disc is the same as you and my brother described - gold 1st disc w/ silver 2nd disc and smooth printing. Also when I pop it into my Dell Medai Experience, it says SNOW_WHITE (D:\) is playing. I highly doubt that we all have bootleg 1st discs. I preordered my SW DVD from the Disney Store and picked it up on October 8th, 2001. I highly doubt that the Disney Store would give me a bootleg DVD.
Though one thing I do find odd with Dell Media Experience and some of my Disney DVDs is that they're programmed incredibly oddly. Instead of usually showing the cover art of the DVD your watching, most of my early made Disney DVDs show "The Shirley Temple Story" as the cover art as in the below example of Mickey Mouse in Living Color Vol 1. weird...

In March, Bambi was my 1st PE Disney DVD along with The Lion King. I didn't have the PE DVDs before, and I really wanted to get the whole PE collection. So I did some research, and I found a web-site that sold hard to find (Out of Print) Disney DVDs. I came across this web-site, and bought Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Beauty and the Beast for a very expensive price. I did not care about the price as long as I had a legit DVD, and not a bootleg. This is the web-site guys, tell me if you think this site sells BOOTLEGS
http://www.mainstreetmegastore.com/ .
Also is it ture if you have a bootleg DVD, it wont play on your PS2?
Let me know if this web-site I gave you would sell bootleg DVDs. Also if they don't they have really HARD TO FIND DISNEY DVDs, but for a high price, it just depends how bad you want the DVD. I mean if they sell BOOTLEGS, it's worth every penny, becuase you KNOW for a FACT, you are getting the real thing!!!

I've never seen a volume label on a DVD that long, and I doubt they can even be that long. As for the regions, I do know that some of them are Region 1 & 4, such as the
Silly Symphonies treasure.
Is this real or fake? Advice please

A while ago I bought The Little Mermaid Platinum Edition as an authentic DVD. As my Son doesn't like this DVD i'm now auctioning it on eBay but wanted to check the authenticity of it as I don't want to be selling a fake.
I bought it on import and although it does look like an original DVD i'm slightly concerned by the lack of holograms and the fact the case says the dvd is compatable with ALL regions.
I've got a photo of the dvd here
http://i13.ebayimg.com/04/i/05/d3/c3/05_1_b.JPG
Has anyone any ideas as to the authenticity? Or what should I be checking on the case or dvd?
Any help much appreciated

It's fake.
The Little Mermaid: Platinum Edition doesn't come out for another year.
