Disney unveils 20th Century Studios logo with latest The Call of the Wild ad

Sotiris wrote:They should have renamed it 20th Century Pictures which was the original name of the studio before it merged with Fox.
I guess they decided to call it 20th Century Studios to have uniformity among their brands. WDAS, Pixar, Blue Sky and Marvel also have "studios" in their names. 20th Century Studios sounds better to me than 20th Century Pictures or 20th Century Fox, but it's sad to see they don't have more respect for the history of the studio and change its name after so many years of being known that way.

Not that I'm fond of this purchase but the logo kinda looks better with something with more letters instead of three letters stretched across "century" or...?

I agree, it looks simpler and classier.

I get that but this ruins the uniformity with its sister studio Searchlight Pictures.

Well, Searchlight Pictures is smaller than the other studios and not as well known by the general public, so I guess Disney doesn't care that its name is different than the rest.

Disney has no Fox left to give--The Verge is reporting that 20th Century Fox Television and Fox 21 Television Studios will be renamed to 20th Television and Touchstone Television, respectively.

You can watch the motion graphics for the new logos, here. I hate the name "20th Television". It makes no sense! The brand is "20th Century" now, not just "20th". Why didn't they simply rename it to "20th Century Television"? Not to mention, it's not consistent with their other newly-renamed divisions such as "20th Century Studios" and "20th Century Animation". I also don't like that a Fox asset is now operating under the Touchstone name.

Update: Touchstone Television has been absorbed into 20th Television.

Disney seems eager to get Fox away. According to TVLaint, Disney will rename all of their Fox channels (mainly in Latin America, I don't know if these exist somewhere else):
Fox Channel will become Star Channel, Fox Life will be Star Life and the Fox Premium channels will be Star Premium (Star Hits, Star Series, Star Action, Star Comedy, Star Fun, Star Cinema and Star Classics)

Wasn't sure where else to post this. I ended up seeing this while reading an article blackcauldron85 posted elsewhere:

Really makes me hope South Park stays on air forever even if the creators take breaks or the # of episodes dwindle. Disney owns all these satirical shows, meaning SP is the only one of those that can truly take the piss out of Disney now. I'm sure they wouldn't have allowed those episodes a year or two ago that mocked their love relationship with China.

I'm a fan of all of those shows (I haven't seen any of the new ones, like Solar Opposites, but I'm interested in seeing it), so I'm good with Disney/Fox continuing them and making new ones. Where's the Bob's Burgers movie, though?!

Oh, no--Disney could end up buying the rights to Lord of the Rings next. I hope not. Could you imagine a new film series without Gimli the Dwarf?

I'm not sure Disney has enough interest in acquiring The Lord of the Rings, but if that ever happened, it would certainly be ironic seeing as Tolkien had a very low opinion of Disney movies. And when he started selling the film rights, he was insistent that Disney wasn't one of the studios that got them and hoped anyone who tried to adapt his books would avoid taking influence from Disney.

Not ironic, but tragic. As the Disney company gets larger and larger, they seem more like Darth Vader as time goes by. I'm not sure they'd care that Tolkien hated them or how the LOTR fandom outcry considering their habit of buying companies only to shut them down.

I just did a quick Google search on LOTR news, and this article says that Amazon is expected to buy the rights since they have the prequel coming out.
