First opinion that really goes into detail. SPOILERS at the link though, I believe it is marked at the half way point, so the first half is safe to read.

My god, how I dream of a day when movies are not reviewed based on how feminist-friendly they are and how many "PoCs" there are.

What an annoying review. It's like she hasn't watched any Disney movies since Little Mermaid. Not all females are @$$kickers who never need saving. Also, I am so glad the filmmakers aren't idiots who shoehorned in token "POC" for no reason other than political correctness. I would have actually found that pretty insulting. I know this is off topic a bit but it seems that faithful Russian CGI adaption of the Snow Queen has been so far given a rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes. To make it on topic some of the criticism directed towards the movie really seems to show how a faithful adaption doesn't always mean it will be a good movie. Adapting the Snow Queen to the big screen often means you need to know what to do with the material given in the original and see what works or what does not. One common thing a lot of adaptions of the Snow Queen does is make her into a full fledged villain. I think the only adaption in my opinion that is really good in putting some personality with the Snow Queen as the villain is the Happily Ever After on HBO where the late Eartha Kitt voiced the character. Often times I feel in these movies the Snow Queen really is kind of dry as a character.

I believe whenever Disney adapts a movie it often tries to do something really different from everybody else. I mean take Beauty and the Beast for example look how different it is from the original tale and other adaptions. Its a version of its own that none can capture at all. The purists might say they are butcher the originals but I think each adaption of any story or fairy tale they keep the spirit of what was in the work. When I see Frozen's details it might not look at first it could be the Snow Queen but when one looks closer there is spiritual similarities that carry on the essence of the tale.
