The French law has to be signed first by the President, but it could face a legal review that would delay that from happening. Estimated date of legalization at the earliest would be June 8th from what I read.

Rhode Island's Senate passed a SSM bill today and that's a major win for the state. All the bill has to do now is pass the House again (which is highly likely) and then the Governor will sign it, making it state number 10. Delaware is on track to be number 11 (a house vote just passed there), and by the end of the year 13 states could have SSM in the US (if Illinois and California were to get it too).

And why should you? Do people feel the need to shout far and wide that they are straight? Hopefully not...
And good for you for feeling comfortable to BE YOURSELF! That is an achievement for every single one of us: gay, straight, purple, blue ... pink ... or whatever!

I agree. It always makes me angry when people say that if you don't walk outside with a rainbow flag in your hand every time you leave your house you're not 'being true to yourself'. No straight person would introduce themselves by saying 'Hi, I'm John, just so you know, I'm straight!' If you want to tell everyone you know, that's fine, if you only want to tell people on a need to know basis, that's fine too. It's your business, not theirs, you're allowed to tell who you want, when you want.

Thank you for the continued kind words, guys. It really means a lot, and reminds me of how great this board is.

lol, I was calling it ironic since I was basically announcing it on a public forum, though this is a forum I would say announcing such news isn't an issue.

I know of people who have announced to the whole world that they're gay/bi via Facebook or something like that, and I'll just say it's something I wouldn't ever do. To each their own, but I'd worry about coming across more as an attention seeker than anything else.

I'm happy the way I am, but I don't feel the need to let my sexuality completely run my life or change how I live it (relationships aside).

I think it's important, though, to recognize the emotions a person goes through before the proverbial 'coming out of the closet' happens. So, if that person wants to yell it out to the world, all the more power to him/her!
At the same time, yes. A person's sexuality is a very small percentage of a person's make-up. I would hate to someday be judged on the basis of my straight-ness. Or maybe I already am... Hu noz...
Either way, yay people being themselves!

Uhhh...no I think sexuality is a really big part of people's lives.

I think it's a big part of a person's personal identity, but not really a person's life.

Exactly. Of course my sexuality has a lot to do with my own identity, which ultimately does have a knock on affect on what I do in my life and how others may react to me. But so do my gender, my age, my nationality, my social class, my educational background, plus many other things. And aside from my relationship choices, it doesn't have to have much bearing on how one personally chooses to live their life. Some people choose to lead a fairly "straight" life, whereas others will want to participate more among LGBT circles. In any case, to each their own.
And I would like it if we could change the subject, as I can see a storm potentially brewing, which I don't particularly want, ESPECIALLY since my online "coming out" (a subject very close and personal to me, naturally) indirectly triggered the slight argument that's brewing.

I won't argue, I just said what I said and still mean it, it greatly affects your identity and life. Who you date is part of your life, right? If you disagree, well, ok then.

Yes and no. More importantly, it's only one of the many pieces that makes
you you. Perhaps we'll have to agree to disagree on that point.
Bottom line (before I side-step out): Nobody should ever have to defend who they are. Ever. (I THINK that was the idea I was originally trying to get across...)

Ok, we agree to disagree on how big that piece is in our lives.

Apparently, the Delaware Senate just passed marriage equality on a 12-9 vote!

The bill was also signed into law today too.
That makes for 11 + DC, should be interesting to see what happens with Illinois and Minnesota later this month. A House vote for the latter is scheduled for Thursday.

I hate straight guys who go to gay bars. I'm sure if they think a little, that's the last place they want to get drunk at.
