Yeah, I'd agree to that. More than likely they felt uncertain about the coupon and didn't want to deal with it, so they just handed you an excuse.

She might have done the preorder special at TRU. Though I went one step further than that.

Toys R Us has it on sale for $22.99

If you preordered the movie you get $5 off
If you use the coupon you get an additional $10 off

They also have a preorder special for Toy Story 3 and I used that to get an additional $5 off so I ended up paying only like $3.68 or something like that for BatB!!!!!

If you get a Wal Mart that refuses it ask for a manager. Then let him look it up on a computer. In the upper right corner of the coupon there is a code you input at veri-fi.com which confirms that it is a legitimate manufacturer's coupon. I cannot see how they can turn it down then.

My Best Buy took my coupon without any hesitation. The girl at the register recognized it immediately which was a relief.

I'm watching the film right now as I type. Stunning quality both visually and audibly. I'll write more about the set as I watch it tonight, but let me first say bravo to Disney on the menu. Not only is it a return to the CG environments of the early Platinums (which I always loved), but this menu goes on a REALLY long time before it loops back. I think it went on for a good three minutes.

I do, however, miss Jerry Orbach as Lumiere. There really wasn't anything to be done about that, though, unless they got Cogsworth or Mrs. Potts to host the menu.

Does the "Special Extended Edition" play off the original theatrical cut and just branch off during "Human Again"? Or is it a completely different track that contains the new animation made for the 2002 IMAX?

Yeah, I bought mine at a Wal Mart and had absolutely no problems.

It's branched, but not just during Human Again. Off the top of my head:

* The extended version puts a title card that says "The Special Edition of..." after "Walt Disney Pictures Presents" whereas the theatrical has the original "Silver Screen Partners" title card.

* The Beast's original stutter, oddly, is in both versions even though it was removed from the 2002 IMAX version.

* The added blood on the Beast's arm for the extended cut also shows up in the theatrical.

* The revised shot at the end of "Something There" for the extended cut that segues into "Human Again" also shows up in the theatrical version. This one's really awkward since they cut away to the Beast bathing before the doors even close, making the shot feel sudden and incomplete. The original shot actually appeared on the 2002 DVD.

* The extended cut has the repaired backgrounds that follow "Human Again." Once the Beast lets Belle go, the extended cut adds sound effects of him tearing the castle apart that allows for them to go back to the tarnished backgrounds for the rest of the film. The theatrical cut sticks with the original backgrounds all the way through and doesn't have the new destruction sound effects during Belle's departure.

* The theatrical and extended versions contain unique animation for Cogsworth's reaction to the Beast letting Belle go.

* The extended cut features unique end credits for the people that worked on the 2002 IMAX version.

So basically, the theatrical cut's a lot closer to the original than the 2002 DVD, though minor things like the Beast's wolf wound and the closing shot of "Something There" are still taken from the extended cut. Vice versa, the extended cut is less like the IMAX Special Edition due to the Beast's stutter being left intact, and both versions add that infamous reflection for Belle at the beginning of the title song.

I got my copy, even though it took a couple of attempts...

After I found out that Walmart would match Toys R Us' deal, I went straight there after work (passing Toys R Us on the way). Not only did Walmart not have any of the Blu-ray case editions, but the sales people acted like I was half insane for asking if they had any. They had about 100 copies of the DVD case version left, but it looks like they started the day with only about 12 of the Blu-ray cases, which, of course, were long gone. The sales guy told me "they're the same price, what's the difference?" I said "Ok, thanks, it's just a personal preference" and left the store.

I went BACK almost all the way I had come and went to Toys R Us, they had tons of copies, the store was empty, and the sales people were really nice and friendly. Lesson learned: come next release day, I'll just go straight to Toys R Us.

I am kind of bummed that I didn't get the Tangled movie pass though, anyone have more details on what that is about/worth?

I hope everyone has a great time viewing the movie tonight!! I'm going to go eat dinner and then I'll be watching it!

That would be a good idea, but I just didn't feel like making a big deal. Hopefully this isn't a whole Illinois thing ( I just moved to Illinois from Florida). The good thing is that I have Target, Toys R Us, and Best Buy all less than 5 minutes away from me. Plus, I saw that the tangled ticket is a stickanble infront of the cover. So I'll prefer to get it tomorrow at Toys R us for 12.99...Hopefully it will go smoothly. lol

I bought James and the Giant Peach at Best Buy back in my Florida, without any problem. Now I'm getting traumatized, lol. :[

Yes, it's a Wal-mart exclusive (see the photo I'm posting) and comes as a sticker on the outside of the package. After you peel it off, you unfold it for the unique code and instructions on how to redeem it.

Thankfully, this coupon was made available so early that I was actually able to print it while visiting home recently (as I have no printer here, which makes going for the Tangled ticket pointless). So, I get to go to Target today, hopefully find one with the free CD, and pick it up as long as they don't reject my coupon (seeing as this is literally the last of the cash I am able to scrape together until I find a job). If it weren't for the coupon, I couldn't afford it, especially after having to pay full price for Tink 3 on Blu (which I still haven't had time to watch, ha).

I just rented the Blu-ray from my library and saw that they did that (just as DisneyChris said). It's actually really distracting cutting in the middle of a camera move with the doors shutting. It looks like a jump cut or layer switch.

Also, for those who deny the colors were ever tampered with; you need to watch this version. Some scenes are exactly like the LaserDisc version, albeit with added clarity and a slight color boost for vibrancy. While other scenes and characters have entirely different color timing. There was obvious picking and choosing going on here that just can't be attributed to the format.

With that said, the picture looked gorgeous. The newly cleaned up backgrounds looks lovely and seeing the clarity of the line work is a revelation. The only problem with the art looking soo good is I paid too much attention to it, and the faulty animation in many of the scenes became all the more apparent (although, that's not fault of the new transfer).

Colors aside, I wonder if we'll ever get the original theatrical version

It was. The $10 saving w/purchase of another Disney movie 19.99 or above when preordered. And together the payment for the preorder, the Release Week deal or $22 and the coupon=$8.29

I'm looking at the Menu, which is a cool 3D tour of the castle, with character animation and the menu itself cycles through various stained-glass designs.

I will upload screencaps for comparison between the two editions later.

Has UD ever done community screenings? just though I'd throw that out there.

Yes, talk to the manager indeed. I went through so many Wal-Mart employees, and what should have been a quick run to the store turned out to take 40 minutes. The first two did not even bother with me, even though I had just waited in line for ten minutes for on lady that was apparently stocking up on food supplies for the end of the world. The following employees were much more helpful and nice, but it still took me a while to get out of there; five minutes into my visit I was ready to pay the extra $10, but since they did not carry the standard DVD I felt it was too much money before my paycheck (I have a Blu player but I wanted to finish my DVD collectio,; needless to say, I was happy when I saw the case they used for the 3-pack). Anyway, when you go to Wal-Mart just tell the cashier to scan the movie and then the coupon just to try it out, that's what I'll be doing next time.

If Walmart doesn't accept my coupon then I'm going to Sears. I bought Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue Blu-ray for $13.99 with my $10.00 coupon it's sale price was $23.99 in Sears but they had trouble scanning the coupon. But still hopefully Sears have Beauty and the Beast on sale.
