Agreed. I was so looking forward to this rendition, too. But no pale-skinned Snow White, no wish for a Prince, no dwarfs? It's getting really stupid. I hate PC culture. I hate it I hate it I hate it! Thank God Cinderella avoided this nonsense and I got my favorite live-action movie of all time.

This is what you get when you wish for everything to be exactly the same and it does not work out…… You end up getting the exact opposite, Something Usually completely different and not here at all to your liking… Just gotta a make up your Mind and truly Expres and form your actions around such No matter what no matter how otherwise it may seem

I read all the comments on that Variety article and these two stood out to me:

i think he prob wants them to have more than one characteristic (like happiness or dopiness). And might like them to have wives and children and a society instead of being 7 hermits out in the woods who only have one characteristic each. I think he wants them to be represented more like fully well-rounded people because he is a person and a dwarf in addition to that.

We wrote a “a f****ed up, cool or progressive spin on” Snow White and Disney bought it back in the early oughts. It was going to be this crazy cool big production chopsocky magic action love story extravaganza set in China and it all fell apart with SARS. They continued trying to make it for about a decade with rewrite after rewrite until Snow White and the Huntsman came out and they gave in.

Too bad… because most of the re-dos of their animated movies blow.
This is referencing Snow and the Seven; remember that?

The controversy is silly. Fantasy dwarfs ≠ people with dwarfism. Using the same line of reasoning, any depiction of giants in fiction, like in Jack and the Beanstalk, is offensive to people with gigantism and should be eliminated too.

Yeah, we have a thread for it, for anyone wanting to jog their memory. But if that project was made today, it would have been deemed as problematic too since the star was going to be a white English woman who had seven Chinese warriors as her bodyguards.

Oh, wow I totally forgot about that project. Disney was working on it for a really long time but then cancelled it when Snow White and the Hunstman and Mirror, Mirror were announced. I believe Saoirse Ronan was already attached to play Snow White.

Snow Woke and the Seven Magical Creatures...

I predict this will be a real stinkeroo.
I’ll stick with the 1937 original until Disney does a “Song of the South” on it.

Undoubtedly. No dwarfs, Snow White isn't White, the prince is Robin Hood. The only things worth this existing for now are Gal Gadot and the music. And, who knows, maybe that'll be enough to make it worth seeing. Snow White and the Huntsman is awful outside of Charlize Theron and Hemsworth, after all.

I'm fine with them wrecking this after they've ruined Mulan and The Little Mermaid the same way (and likely Hercules as well). Why should only the '90s films suffer? Thankfully B&tB, Aladdin, and TLK were made before they started going truly insane deleting entire soundtracks and half the cast of characters.

Hahaha definitely agree with that. Snow White and the Huntsman and its sequel are pretty much saved only by Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron's performances and her fabulous costumes in that movie. I like Gal Gadot so hopefully her performance is just as good as Theron's was (though I'm obviously expecting a very different kind of Queen).

I can't believe all this nonsense...

I wished this version would be really close to the original, but with all this crazy news, I'm just losing hope.

Weren't the songs from the original supposed to be in this version?

They said that some songs from the original would be carried over (they only mentioned "Heigh-Ho" as being one of them) and that they would be "reinterpreted" and "reworked".

Considering Pinocchio is cutting "Little Wooden Head" (quite unnecessarily, too), I wouldn't be surprised to see "With a Smile and a Song" and/or "The Silly Song" get cut. I wouldn't think they'd ever consider cutting a song as iconic as "Heigh Ho" or "Some Day My Prince Will Come" before, but I never thought they would cut the Dwarfs either. It's as bad as cutting Mushu out of Mulan--worse, considering the Dwarfs are part of the title for heaven's sake. Whoever's in charge of the live-action division needs their head examined.

I’m so sick of this.... the Prince no more “made out” with the dead Snow White when he sweetly kissed her on the lips than in WSS María “made out” with the dead Tony when she sweetly kissed him on the lips. People today are NUTS!

     That article is brilliantly written. The author made me lol so much.

But seriously though, he's right. I sometimes wonder if these people who are offended by these things are actually stupid. Because to be offended by the Seven Dwarfs has got to be the most retarded thing I have ever heard in my life.

The deliberate mischaracterization of Dwarfs as being humans of short stature rather than a magical species separate from people in order to criticize the film of being anti-people of short stature reminds me of how people want to retroactively consider the goblins in Harry Potter as anti-Semitic. Quite a humongous stretch.

Wokeism is really starting to eat its own tail at this point. Everything is a cause for outrage now. And I’m far from a conservative.

Dwarfs, M&M’s, pants on Minnie Mouse, it’s all a distraction from the ultra wealthy having doubled their fortune over the past two years while the rest of us down here are paying 10 bucks for a coffee.

But I digress, the dwarfs have always been magical creatures in my view. In no way do I associate them with little people. And there’s no reason for little people to play these roles. Just use CGI or motion capture. Dinklage really needs to calm down. It’s also a bit much coming from someone who got his fame and fortune playing a character referred to as ‘the imp’ and ‘the halfman’. How is that progressive exactly?
