That's actually very pretty, I'm curious if they have Rapunzel for a while will they invent a new outfit for her? Like the aqua dress for Ariel. I do feel bad for the person playing Rapunzel.

Hopefully they'll get paid extra...

Something bothers me lately... where is Gothel ?
I mean, remember what Walt and even Hitchcock kept saying " A good movie is all about a good villain"... Villains in Snow White, Sleeping beauty, Aladdin and Mermaid was a brilliant demonstration of that... Why do we hear so little about Gothel. She's suppose to be one of the main plot character. She has the charism of a great one : obsessed by youth, Diva style, manipulative, lying, even with her own song, brushing the magic air to enjoy its power... so then ?
What happen when she discovers her baby bird has flown with a man ? Is she going to be like those wasted great villains that doesn't go nowhere (I think about Facilier, or Raspoutine in Anastasia), stuck in second hand role... is she just going to run after them discretly, in the second half of the movie, with a stabbing blade in her hand ? End of story ? I guess there is a brilliant finale and death for her, but how can she spread her personnality before that, all trough a movie that all dominated by the famous marketting trio "girl-thief-horse"... Even Maximus seems to be more important than her. Yeah, it's all about them, Rap and Flynn, Rap outside, Rap and the lights, Rap in a boat, Rap with the vikings at the Inn, Rap running, escaping, etc... Even Flynn is overlit with glory (thinking about rumors, i even think we'll have big revelations, like he is Gothel's hidden son, or lost king's son, or a prince in disguise, or rap 'brother, etc...).
SO, what's left for Gothel ? When you think about it, Ursula, Maleficient and even the Queen were stuck in their places, watching their feminine antogonist evoluate, but in a way, they always were able to steal the show and the limelight in a memorable way ! Can some of you, with or with no spoilers, promise us Gothel 's gonna be a great one. Spaces to express her mean and mad pathologic nature, maybe disguising herself, having spells, cheating, stealing, plotting with ennemies thieves ?....

It's also all about the mystery! Remember, we all grew up KNOWING all these stories that you mentioned, some of them even before seeing the movie. But when those audiences went to see Snow White when it first premiered, imagine the shock in 1939 when they saw the beautiful queen transform into that ugly old witch, or the transformation of Maleficent into that huge dragon for the first time. It's all about the build-up. You don't want to give too much away, especially with a villain. Hitchcock also played with that aspect, constantly setting up his sequences, teasing you and keep you at the edge of your seat and then drag it just one little bit longer into you were about to burst and THEN give it to you good!

I went to the cinema today and you know how they sometimes have television sets in the lobby that plays trailers for upcoming films? Well, one was playing the trailer to Tangled and a young boy actually pointed to the screen and said "I want to see that!"
Disney Marketing's idiotic campaign is actually working on young boys?!?

Now, all they need to do is try and attract an adult audience.

I hear she's on vacation in the Bahamas. well, several months of villainy can be pretty tiring on a person. I mean, just look at her.

I'm sorry, but the majority of the 20-plus pages of this thread worth of complaining about a simple title change doesn't ring to me as important. How is the title actually important?

At least the title is something that represents the film. I doubt very many people will walk away remembering the name of the kingdom at all. Now if later I'm walking down the street and someone refers to Tangled as "That Disney movie with the kingdom named after a beer", I'll gladly take back the comment.
I agree that the whole title debate is overall silly because it's not something that we as fans can change, but criticizing the film because of Corona really just sounds like people are digging for a reason to criticize the film.

The Corona thing doesn't bother me--mostly because beer has never been on my mind. But I wonder why they would want to name a kingdom "crown"?
The title is something I don't like (and, tbh, I doubt I ever will--but you've heard all that before), not because it makes the
movie bad, but because I think in time it'll prevent it from attaining a 'classic' status (if that's even possible for Disney sans Pixar these days). I could be wrong, but for some reason titles of that kind, especially with animated films, don't suggest any longevity. They're enjoyed--by someone--and then forgotten. It doesn't incline me to think how good/bad the film itself will be (since a title is arguably loosely related to the actual film), but I think the public tend to accumulate false impressions of films based on their titles.
Tangled suggests something akin to
Hoodwinked, etc. But maybe that'll be in it's favor? Moviegoers seem to flock those types of films (for God knows what reason).
The only real reason I've been skeptical of the film is because of some biased deep-seated hatred of 3D in me. Not that I hate 3D films specifically, but a part of me never warmed up to Disney doing them, mostly because I felt that they would look at 3D as 2D's replacement when they're very different from one another. And that's how this all felt to me from the beginning: a movie/story that seemed like it should've been 2D, but was forced to be 3D. But, well, there's no changing the past, so I have to move on and hopefully enjoy the film for what it is.
Which, btw, looks to possibly be pretty good. Gothel, Menken, and their track record so far (both MTR and Bolt were pretty nice films) are all signs for the best. We'll see.

All these assumptions about beer are really getting to me. Do people actually think Disney named the Kingdom without any thought put towards the meaning of the word?
Coronas are a solar phenoma, named from the Latin word for Crown. The same goes for the beer's name, also coming from the Latin word. They share the same original meaning - 'crown', that's as far as the comparison between the two goes.

Yes, i agree. That's why in my original post I thought the whole uproar about the name was silly. I'm pretty sure Disney didn't name the kingdom for the beer and that it's just a coincidence. With that said this is the last I'm going to post on the subject for fear of being a hypocrite by talking about it lol.

Partially in storyboards, but about two thirds was unfinished animation.
Snow White wrote:so is it a parody?
NO!
Snow White wrote:is it only a humor movie?
NO!!!!
Snow White wrote:I think Tangled have a lot of gross and vulgar comedy (like Shrek) and not heart or great moments...
WRONG!!!!!
Edthehyena wrote:Something bothers me lately... where is Gothel ?
Been wondering that meself. Preserving a sense of mystery about her is one thing. Hiding her entirely is quite another. Do Joe Sixpack's kids even realize there
is a villain in this movie?

I won't get too specific, but here comes the white text. Just in case.
I guess I'm going to disappoint you on this one. She's a very unique villain and does wicked, wicked things. I thought she was wonderfully awful. But the movie does chug along without her for significant stretches. This is not a villain-centric movie.

Exactly. Just like Heineken the Horse and Stella the Chameleon.
Oops, was that a spoiler too?

Is her screen-time more like Ursula, where she sometimes overlooks what is happening elsewhere? Or is her screen-time more like Shan Yu, where she just pops up randomly? Also does she have any sidekicks/henchman?

Oh oh mawnck, i have a sad feeling... crap crap an all crap !!
I kept thinking the main threat in this movie was Gothel madness, envy, etc...
Suddenly i realise this is too much subtle and psychologic for a 2010 Disney comedy... let me guess : the main danger for our heroes will be a very material, indiana jones style and boyish one : GARDS AND MEAN THIEFS RUNNING AFTER THEM IN THE FOREST IN THE FIELDS IN THE RIVERS... crap crap and crap, what a pity... i'll go back to enjoy Hunchback and its wonderful Frollo perversion... Wise and Trousdale really had the really Villain Vibe i long for in vain those days.
PS : still, i had a revelation last night : the most popular 90's Disney movie had a villain who was not very perverse, subtle and diabolic. I mean, Gaston was not a very good character, not very interesting, wasn't he ? just a stupid, funny, singing macho. He did nothing interesting but in the end, challenging and battling with beast, and it's 2 minutes scene.

My, you do jump to conclusions. Well, suit yourself. Your loss.
EDIT: OK, that's a bit harsh. Let me try again.
Animalia - You're asking for more spoilers than I'm willing to give out. But I will say this:
Gothel is after R, and the soldiers and various assorted baddies are after F. There might be some joining forces involved.
Edthehyena - I do think you're getting a bit too worked up about my statements - reading more into them than is really there.
In fact, if I were to make a list of the villains Gothel was most like, Frollo would definitely be on there. So don't give up on Tangled yet.
