I would recommend getting either Super Smash Bros Brawl or Mario Kart Wii for the online play (Although the online play on Brawl tends to lag) and Twilight Princess for the gameplay (I only played the gamecube version though).
Stay away from Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. The controls on that game are broken and messed up.
Mysims and Big Brain Academy are only good for a rental as they get pretty repetitive. I am not sure about the other games as I have never played them.

I forgot to say this, but I beat Super Paper Mario about a week ago. It was pretty good and I thought the writing was funny. I hope they make a sequel.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii are must haves. Brawl's online is ok at best, but Kart's is great.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is another excellent game that I would pickup as soon as you get your Wii. I would also recommend you check out Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and Super Paper Mario. These are all excellent Wii games... some of the best in my opinion.
The Wii Zapper is ok. The pack in game (Link's Crossbow Training) is alright, but not great. I actually found the game easier to play just using the Wii Remote and Nunchuck. There are other "Zappers" out there that are supposed to be better than the Nintendo one, and there are a few other good Zapper titles. If your getting this just for the Link's Crossbow Training then I would skip it. If your planning to pickup other Zapper titles then its a fairly good thing to pickup, although you might want to look around at other Zappers and read some reviews. The Perfect Shot by Nyko I've heard is really good with the House of Dead games.
If you like Aerosmith a lot then Guitar Hero: Aerosmith would be a no brainer. If your looking for just a Guitar Hero game then pickup Guitar Hero 3. I wouldn't get the Wii Version of Rock Band unless the Wii is your only console. The Wii version is missing features that the PS3/360 versions have. Mainly downloadable content. The ability to download new songs each week is one of the big benifits to Rock Band, and like the PS2 version the Wii version will not support this.
My friend and his wife were addicted to Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree for awhile. I never played it, but they said it was a good game. As far as the other titles I have no ideal.
If your looking for a few party games the Rayman ones are good, so is Mario Party 8 and Wario Ware.
Although everyones gaming opinions are different the main titles I would pickup at first are... (not in any real order)
1.) Mario Kart Wii
2.) Super Smash Bros Brawl
3.) Super Mario Galaxy
4.) The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
5.) Super Paper Mario
6.) Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Super Paper Mario was a great game, and I think a lot of people over look it sometimes. I'm glad you enjoyed it PixarFan2006. If your looking for other Paper Mario titles the Gamecube Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, and Paper Mario for the N64 (also on the Virtual Console) are both great. They are a little different than Super Paper Mario. They are more of a "classic" RPG, but its the same type of humor and stuff that your familiar with in Super Paper Mario.

I have Mario and Sonic at the Olympics and I think it is an awesome game, especially if you are a Mario kid. It is similar to a Mario Kart game in which you have to unlock certain events and such, which makes it very challenging. Also, there is a lot of stuff to do/collect which makes for a lot of replay value. I think it is a great game - if it looks like something you think you would like, you probably WILL like it!
Mario Kart is a MUST have for the Wii. It is a great game to play on your own, with a friend or group, or even online. If you have enjoyed previous Mario Kart games, you will really like Mario Kart for the Wii!

The Nintendo Channel has launched for Nintendo Wii. Plus, if you have a Nintendo DS, you can download demos to your DS from the Nintendo Channel!!! I am so excited. On top of that, it is free!

Thanks for the information MadonnasManOne! I didn't think this was launching until the end of May. I'll have to download it in a few mins.
Since I got a DS in December I've been waiting on this channel.
Edit: Just downloaded it, and I'm not impressed with one thing. They want you to share your play information or you can't use the DS feature. Sure there isn't really any harm in it, but just knowing stuff from my Wii will be traveling though Nintendo's server, just to use a feature is kind of annoying. I wonder why they did this? Looking at the privacy thing on Nintendo's website they collect a ton of information about the Wii, even where you put your sensor bar, and how many free blocks are left on the Wii.
Although the demos are pretty cool.

For Christmas my Dad gave my Mom a cheque 'For a Wii' and I finally found (the last) one on Sunday at HMV. So we ran to the bank, ran back panting picked it up and now we have a family Wii. Its still not set up since we need a new TV where we want it and the internet stuff will need to be adressed but we have one now.

Congrats on the new Wii.
I still can't believe that after a year and a half they are selling so well. I've only seen a Wii in the stores 4 times since launch. I wonder how long this will last?

I'm home in Michigan for the week at my parent's house and I just noticed it. I downloaded it for them and it's actually a really great channel to have. I'm looking forward to adding it to my console when I get home. I like that you can watch game demos and stuff on there.

After getting over the privacy concerns, I'm liking the channel too. I went though the videos and some of the demos yesterday, but I see a lot of potential in this channel in the future.
I'm actually excited about WiiWare after this. I might have to download a few of those games, and I wasn't planning on doing that.

What's WiiWare? Is that like downloading old school games for the virtual console?

Sorry to double post, but has anyone played "Super Monkey Ball" for the Wii? I have liked previous Monkey Ball games for other systems, so I figured it would be fun. Some of the reviews aren't very great, but I see it is only $20 now. Does anyone know if this game is fun at all... at least worth the $20?

Haven't played the Wii Monkey Ball game. I have Super Monkey Ball 2 on the Gamecube. Its pretty fun, and some of the stages can get pretty tough. For $20 I would probably pick it up.
WiiWare is going to be similar to Live Arcade, etc... Its brand new games that are available to download starting May 12th. Most are like 8 to 10 dollars, and the most expensive one is the Final Fantasy one thats 15.
One thing I am starting to worry about on the Wii is space. I have no VC games, but I have all the channels that are available downloaded. Add some game saves and out of my 2100 and some blocks (all Wiis have 21xx blocks to start with) and I'm already down to less than 1300. I really hope they open up the SD slot, or make an external solution soon (hard drive). I wonder how many blocks the WiiWare games will take up. So far I'll probably get the Final Fantasy one, and maybe the new Dr. Mario.

Here is a current list of games. More will be added as the service grows.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WiiWare_games
Looking at the Final Fantasy game it starts out at 1500 Wii Points ($15), and additional stuff is available to add to the game for 100 to 300 points (new clothes, castles, etc...). This is one reason I'm saying Nintendo needs to allow you to use the SD card slot better than it is now. WiiWare is going to fill up the internal memory fast.

Just wanted to let you all know that Circuit City has a great sale going on this week for Wii games. They have 6 titles on sale that are buy 1, get one 50% off, which is a really good deal on Wii games! The titles that are included are:
*Super Mario Galaxy
*Super Smash Brother Brawl
*Mario Kart Wii
*Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games
*Tiger Woods PGA Tour `08
*Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga
So, you could go to Circuit City and get two GREAT games for the Wii for $75 instead of $100.

Pretty nice deal Simba3.
Mario and Sonic have been on sale a few times recently, but a lot of those have never been below $49.99 (Galaxy, Kart, Brawl, and the Lego Star Wars game).

WiiWare is finally here, available in the Wii Shop Channel!
I'm disappointed, though. The two games I was really looking forward to (
Dr Mario Rx and
Gyrostarr), aren't available. Oh, well. Nintendo won't be getting my money, today!
