Fantasia was cut? Why? I could've sworn the only Disney movie to recive cuts was The Three Caballeros. Unless there are more films that I'm not aware about.

I think both Fantasia and Make Mine Music are cut, but I am not sure.Disney Fanatic wrote:Fantasia was cut? Why? I could've sworn the only Disney movie to recive cuts was The Three Caballeros. Unless there are more films that I'm not aware about.
Also, there's the infamous nude woman in The Rescuers (granted, it's an "approved" censorship, as it never should have been there in the first place), and the DVD edits of Aladdin and The Lion King.MikeyMouse wrote:Actually, there are several Animated Classics that were "edited for content" (but one of them wasn't Three Caballeros as a previous poster mentioned). Chronologically, the first was the Pastoral Symphony scene in Fantasia. Next was the removal of Goofy's cigarette in Saludos Amigos. The Martins & Coys segment was removed completely from Make Mine Music, and Pecos Bill had his Marlboro digitized out in Melody Time. Oh, and don't forget the complete and absolute censoring of Song of the South. I won't open up Pandora's Box by getting into my feelings on Disney's "protecting" of our sensibiliies, but buyers should know what they're getting into. Read Luke's reviews if you're interested in exactly what was cut or altered and why.
Well, it is not a matter of if end up liking it or not. In fact, I rented it once (at the same Blockbuster and had so many scratches that I couldn't see much of it), and liked it; I mean, there's a reason why I have Fantasia 2000.Escapay wrote: As for the original question, I'd say rent it first, EGJ. Fantasia isn't for everyone, so you may not want to spend $25 on a movie that you may end up not enjoying. If you enjoy it enough to get the current edition, then go for it.

Is Fantasia 2000 also going to be re-released when the PE of Fantasia comes out?Timon/Pumba fan wrote:Yes, it IS confirmed!dvdjunkie wrote:Do we really know that there is a PE coming for "Fantasia"? Or, are we just hoping? I get this one. You will not be disappointed.
After "101 Dalmatians" is released, there will be 4 new platinums: Pinocchio, Fantasia, Peter Pan and Sleeping Beauty.
As for the topic, I'd wait for the PE. I mean after all, it could be an UNedited version!
IMO, that third disc is easily worth the price of the whole set. But that's just me...Evil Genie Jafar wrote:Well, I'm not interested in the third disc...
Well, it was in the store for several months... then it was gone (I figured someone bought it) but since I found it back.... then it should mean that it was the same copy, probably they put it in storage for some reason I brought it back.CJ wrote:I think $25 is a good price for a brand new copy of Fantasia. You should buy it before someone else beats you to it.
Well, its debateble which is the better release. The lack of the Pixar shorts on the new releases are a huge minus point in my eyes, and overall, the Toy Box does have a few supplements not on the new releases, such as all the toy story treats and better galleries.consultant wrote:It seems Toy Story would be a good collectors item since it represents really the first major movie using the awesome new graphics technology and it is Disney's first computer animation movie.
While it seems that the 3-disc Toy Box is possibly the most collectible of all the releases, it appears the 10th Anniversary release is actually a superior product since it has remastered picture and sound and higher bit rate plus a game which the toy box doesn't have.
First, if we're talking about Toy Story, Toy Story 2, A Bug's Life, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and the upcoming Cars, they are not Disney films. They are Pixar films, and merely distributed by Disney.consultant wrote:It seems Toy Story would be a good collectors item since it represents really the first major movie using the awesome new graphics technology and it is Disney's first computer animation movie.

I guess the short answer is if you are a big Toy Story Fan you should own the Toy Box, the 10th Anniversary, and the new Toy Story 2 Special Edition (although I think Toy Story 2 is much much less collectible since it is a sequel and doesn't represent Disney's landmark first computer animation release.)
