Dancing With The Stars is on now, hopefully the sneak peek is worth it because I am not a fan of the show. :P

The few times I catch it, the only thing I enjoy is the eye candy.

AHHH!!! :D :D

First of all; I love the way the song "Can You Imagine That?" sounds, the 2-D sequence looks like it may be a nice trip into an animal filled world like Bedknobs and Broomsticks was, neat seeing those brief bits with David Warner as Admiral Boom and Dick Van Dyke as Mr. Dawes Jr. winking at Mary's umbrella, it looks like "Trip a Little Light Fantastic" might be the big showstopper of the movie, and I love Mary's dry wit responses. Hopefully we'll get to hear more of the songs as November/December go by because I'm liking what Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman have done so far, it reminds me a bit of the Lopez's songs for the 2011 Winnie the Pooh movie.

Absolutely extraordinary! The underwater scenes look so enchanted and I'm looking so forward to seeing those, especially with the dolphins. Definitely getting Bedknobs and Broomsticks vibes from them. So glad we got to see more 2D animation as well. I wonder if any of those animals will become breakout characters like the penguin waiters (and speaking of penguins, it's nice to see some pop in here as well).

Absolutely lovely and fantastical. Emily is indeed the perfect sub for Julie Andrews. So glad we finally get a song as well! Can’t wait to see more! :)

Wonderful, just wonderful.

Emily has taken on such a huge, iconic role, and from the bits we've seen I really do think she has done the role justice and then some.

Can't wait to hear & see more !

I think having her in the movie would've highlighted the fact that she's not playing the title character now and would've made us miss her more as Mary Poppins.
Perhaps but I would have preferred it if she had a role in the movie anyway.

I thought they hired Shaiman/Wittman because they wanted to go with a more Broadway route but it seems they're just trying to imitate the Sherman Brothers like the Lopezes did with Winnie the Pooh. Why not just hire Richard Sherman then if that's what they were aiming for? I hope the songs don't pale in comparison here like they did in the case of Winnie the Pooh. Currently, I'm not feeling the song "Can You Imagine That?". Maybe I'll change my mind when I hear it in full. I hope I like the rest of the songs more.

Same. It feels odd to have Dick Van Dyke without Julie Andrews. I guess Angela Lansbury is the spiritual surrogate but surely there could have been room for both.

Though from hearing it a bit more, it sounds like Shaiman and Wittman did both a Sherman Brothers imitation and a lush Broadway sound to it at the same time. Hopefully we'll hear more of the songs soon but I still have this optimism that they will turn out to be wonderful songs.

I don't know if you guys know, but Julie Andrews declined the role in the film because she didn't want people to say, "There's that Mary Poppins."

I can see what Julie means, she doesn't want to take away from Emily being the 'new' Mary Poppins.

I recently read a book on her, & it does seem that she made some odd career choices, and was offered many roles that she declined for various reasons ( typecasting was mentioned a lot ). So from reading about her, I wish she was typecast a little more as she could have has some wonderful roles rather than disappearing off until The Princess Diaries.

I wonder if she could have been something like a narrator ? Though on another level, my mum said she would be a little sad to see Julie in Mary Poppins Returns as she is now, as it's not fair to see her in a sequel to a film in a role she made her own, being given to someone else whilst she has gotten older etc. Said it would made her feel sad. So maybe there is an element in that for Julies decline.

Interesting they're only submitting two songs from the movie. Are "The Place Where Lost Things Go" and "Trip a Little Light Fantastic" supposed to be the most popular ones? Is this based the songs' reception from screenings and such?

Thanks for alerting us of that, Musical Master! They have announced it quite early this year, haven't they? Normally we've already listened to all the songs when they announce which ones they're submitting for consideration.

You're welcome. :)

Those are some nice stills and it's interesting the difference between them and the way the film looks in post-production.
