I think I've got their names now, but they all act the same way and have the same personality quirks except that for each gender, they have a dummy character (Joey, Phoebe)

That's a really hard one because they have very little in the way of character distinction. I guess I'll say
Pumbaa because the voice actor was Leon Carossi on Saved by the Bell.

On That '70s Show, the characters are very interesting, funny, and hey you can actually tell them apart. It's easy to root for, oh I don't know- Donna, or Eric, or Hyde (though the kind of person who roots for Hyde is usually a jerk). And then, the acting quality is just higher on That '70s Show. These are all excellent comic actors, even Ashton Kutcher, as hard as it is for me to say that since I don't really like him. On Friends, all the characters are the same- neurotic, a little uptight, high maintenance, hard to relate to characters with petty concerns about how everything makes them look. It's like a younger, "hipper" version of Seinfeld- only without the self-depricating sense of humor. In fact, Friends is one of the unfunniest shows I've ever seen. People just kept watching because of the good-looking cast. Sorry, Jiminy.
