Thanks for posting those leaked pictures, Sotiris! I forgot to mention that I tried to find the original source of the first one, but I wasn't successful either. There were more things I wanted to reply to, but I'm not at home right now, and as I said on another occasion, it's not easy for me to write posts on my phone.
Though we can't see Mirabel's full face on that last image, it looks like the toys and that stylized drawing were quite accurate after all.

The face may be accurate, but those figurines looked like 'chibis.' I doubt the finished characters will have those proportions. But if they do, it'll certainly be a different and fresh look for a CG WDAS film!

Unfortunately, they are. I can't believe so many people here think Mirabel's design looks appropriate for a female lead in a WDAS production. Having such a generic design that could have been created by literally any other studio is a positive development for some? People don't like Disney characters to look Disney, anymore? I don't get it.

Hey! With that mindset we would never have gotten the Scarfe-influenced
Hercules, the Mignola-influenced
Atlantis or the Sanders-influenced
Lilo & Stitch!

Even
Emperor's New Groove and
Home on the Range are, if you look closely, very un-Disney in style. We probably don't think of them that way these days because we're used to them!

I always thought there was something off with Lilo and Stitch design wise, like if you compare Lilo to Alice and Wendy. She looks more like a muppet than an actual girl. I like Lilo and Stitch, but it always felt weird to me to consider it part of the classics, and truthfully I feel the same about the other 2000's films and even Pocahontas and Hercules for that matter.

It still looks like the Disney House Style to me. Sure she is “nerdy” but stylistically I think her design has more in common with Moana and Rapunzel than even Raya did. I am confused because I thought the “Importante” image would convince people, after the toy set and the stylized 2D logo, that Encanto was going to look like a Disney movie. That’s what it looks like to me.

I'm not confused. This is exactly the reaction I was expecting. Expect the same when their full faces are shown.

Making the characters look a style that is actually appealing in a different way like with Sleeping Beauty, Hercules, or Lilo & Stitch is one thing. I didn't think TENG or Atlantis were that appealing to look at overall, although some characters worked better than others. Probably why they performed so badly. I hated the square-edged fingers back when I was a child.
That said, the problem here to me isn't the overall look of the film. It's just the main character's design that's a bomb. The rest of the characters look fine to me so far? Looking more at that picture Sotiris posted at the top of the page, I think part of the reason this character looks this way is they wanted to work off of Miguel's design as protagonist from
Coco for the protagonist of this film since
Coco was a successful film with Latino characters and WDAS has never made a film with Latino characters. Mirabel's face looks like Miguel in drag to a degree.

You know Disney, don't risk making something "new" when you can just re-use what worked yesteryear.

She totally does!

Thanks for posting!
Here are two more leaks similar to ones already posted. The first one confirms the girl with a flower in her hand is Isabela:

By the way, I wanted to clarify that what I said in my last post was just an observation. I didn't mean it to be positive or negative (not that there's anything wrong with being negative). I'll judge the design when we get a complete look at it. Plus, maybe the one we got is not the final design.

That's very kind of you, D82.

It would be nice if there were changes to her design, but if the film's coming out this fall, they would have to happen soon.

OH. EM. GEE.
That Rapunzel leak takes me back! I did some perspective correction on it at some point to share here so we could get a better look!

And I gave that Elsa a mullet while people tried to figure out what the hell her hairstyle was supposed to be.

she looks frumpy... like she buys her clothes at the local thrift shop...good! it'd be refreshing to see a low maintenance female lead for once...lol.
I see Capybaras! I love Capybaras!

this reminds me now how ugly I thought Elsa's hair was when I first saw it in the leaks. Then after the movie was a huge hit I couldn't stop seeing women everywhere wearing a messy side braid.

Hey, I`m with you! Not to disrespect the opinions of the rest of you guys! But remember that I`ve agreed with you on Mirabel`s design, Sotiris!

You know, now that it`s mentioned, I`m curious about what`s next for Walt Disney Animation Studios. Now that they`ve broken off their short sequel phase with two sequels in a row. And managed to complete one original project that wasn`t cancelled (cough,
Raya and the Last Dragon, cough), I`m curious about which rut the studio is going to take next. At least both
Raya and
Encanto seems to be distinctive on their own. So I wonder if WDAS is going to make more Princess movies or take another direction and step forward.

I think Frozen 3 and Zootopia 2 are next for Disney. As far as original projects, I don't know. I would like if they made another animal film of some kind.

I'd really like an old school classic fantasy/fairytale movie. Epic in scale and story... (which is not a sequel to anything) A boy can dream...

You and me both, but I don't think that's happening any time soon.
