It's possible. The fact that she's a journalist here doesn't necessarily have to be a retcon. She could change jobs. Maybe she starts working for Cruella in her fashion house at the end of the movie.

Maybe you're right. I've looked it up and while many of these remakes have been nominated for costume design (including 102 Dalmatians), only Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland has won in the category. I believe the only other Oscar they have received so far is the visual effects one for The Jungle Book.

I'm also more excited for it than before. I agree about the TV spot. The promotional campaign has been quite good so far, in my opinion. One thing in particular I think they've done really well is the choice of music for the trailers. I've been listening to Doris Day's "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps" a lot since I heard it in the second trailer.

I hadn't thought of that. I think it's quite possible she'll decide to go work for Cruella at the end of the film, now that you've mentioned it.

Yes, they've done a good job marketing the film. I agree about the music in the trailers. Both "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'" and "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps" were fitting choices that were used effectively.

Yes, I agree. And personally I think "Who's Sorry Now?" was also fitting because of the feud/revenge between Cruella and the Baroness.

Agreed. These songs may not fit the era or setting per se, but they do have that vintage, timeless quality to them.

Interesting enough, I started reading Dodie Smith's original book and in the first chapter, Mrs. Dearling (Roger and Anita don't seem to have first names in the book) says that Cruella always had black-and-white hair.

^That's really interesting. I always assumed it was a stylistic choice on Cruella's part, so I supposed they had invented it was her natural hair for this movie, but they're actually being faithful to the original story. I have to read Dodie Smith's book too someday. Several years ago I searched for some of the original books Disney films are adapted from, but I wasn't able to find most of them. But I was only looking for them in book shops and in Spanish. Now, having Internet and knowing more English, it would be much easier for me to find them.

Oh how sad. I remember the 101 Dalmatians films having great costumes, as did Sunset Boulevard on Broadway that I saw videos of.

I really enjoyed reading that article on the Cruella costumes, though.

I hadn't thought about that. The film will end with Cruella finally becoming the villain we know and love, so a cover of that song for the end credits would be very fitting. And I think it's still possible. Raya's song, for example, wasn't revealed until one of the last promos.

I agree, he was a great costume designer. By the way, I don't know if you know this, but Sandy Powell, who has also worked for Disney making the costumes for Cinderella (2015) and Mary Poppins Returns, was his cousin.

• According to Brazilian website Almanaque Disney, the press kit for the movie reveals the actor who plays Roger in this version is Kayvan Novak. Apparently, they also changed his profession (he's now a lawyer) and he'll sing a new version of "Cruella de Vil".

With less than a month to go, Disney released Cruella's official Press Kit, gathering all the information about its new live-action. The document confirms that a character much speculated by fans is, in fact, in the plot. We are talking about Roger, the owner of the Dalmatians of 101 Dalmatians.

The Press Kit informs that he will be played by actor Kayvan Novak (What We Do In The Shadows) and reveals that the character will be a lawyer for the Baroness, villain played by Emma Thompson.

Kayvan also has credits on the film's soundtrack, because he re-recorded the song Cruella de Vil, Mel Leven's iconic composition from the 1961 animation, for the soundtrack of the new film. It is not possible to confirm if there will be a scene with the character singing or if the song was added only as an extra.

• The same website also revealed that there'll be an end credits song, performed by Florence Welch, titled "Call Me Cruella".

Cruella's soundtrack, which will be released soon by Walt Disney Records, has 37 tracks. The vast majority are well-known songs, such as These Boots Are Made For Walking, which also plays in one of the trailers.

But among this musical selection there is an original song, made exclusively for the film. British singer Florence Welch teamed up with composer Nicholas Britell to write the track, which is called Call Me Cruella. Who recorded the song, which should touch the credits of the film, was Florence's own band Florence + The Machine.

There is still no release date for the song. The information about Cruella's soundtrack was released in the official Press Kit for the film, made available today by Disney.

It's fascinating how many professions Roger has had since the character's creation. In Dodie Smith's book, he works in financing. In the animated film, he's a musician. For the live-action remake and the '90s animated series, he designed video games. And now he's a lawyer.

The TV spots were OK (the second one was the best because of the eerie chanting), but the bullying at school and the Baroness stealing Cruella's designs are too much of a cliché, for my taste. I suppose it can't be helped when you have to paint a villain in sympathetic colors. Also, I found the remark "It's spelled devil, but it's pronounced DeVil" in this TV spot too on the nose.

I'm OK with him being a lawyer though I liked that in both the animated film and the '90s remake he was an artist. I would have preferred if he was a type of artist here too. I'm glad they're doing a rendition of the song "Cruella de Vil". It's too famous and iconic not to. I wonder if Roger will sing it in the actual film or if it'll be something left for the end credits or the soundtrack. I think it could still work with him singing it in-film despite his change in profession. People still sing little ditties even if they aren't musicians.

A pattern seems to be developing where Disney has the composer who's doing the score for a non-musical remake, co-write an original song for the end credits. I believe this has been the case for Cinderella, Mulan, and now Cruella.

The fact they're focusing so much on the costumes in the press means they'll be heavily pushing for an Oscar nomination in that category.
