In my humble opinion, hand-drawn characters translate better to handmade stop motion figurines than to intangible CG.

Disney Currently Has No Plans to Develop Hand-Drawn Animated Features
We may have seen the last days of hand-drawn animation. It’s not going to come from DreamWorks Animation (all of their 2D endeavors flopped), BlueSky, or Sony Pictures Animation. The last refuge was Disney, who had released the hand-drawn Winnie the Pooh in 2011. But that looks like the end of Disney’s 2D animation for the foreseeable future. According to /Film, at “Walt Disney Company shareholder’s meeting, CEO Bob Iger revealed none of Disney’s animation companies, which includes Disney Animation, Pixar and Disney Toons, are currently developing, or have plans to develop, any 2D, hand drawn animation for the big screen. He’s not ruling it out, but the current slate—which probably stretches 3-4 years—has none of it.

Oh, come on! Princess and the Frog did NOT flop! If it did, it wouldn't have made back $267 million worldwide (a little over $104 million of it coming from here in the States alone)! And that's not counting DVD/Blu-ray sales.

By the way, this is old news, I'm sure, but read this please: http://www.bleedingcool.com/2013/03/06/ ... agerrated/

Can we stop acting like we are hearing any of this for the first time? Nothing has changed in quite a while.

Yeah, this is getting a bit annoying. They said they don't have it in the works at this time. SO for those of you people who think that 2D is dead, I have a few words to say,

Mote: I don't like Family Guy. It's the best I can find to make miserable people to shut up.

I was aware of that, I just thought it would be interesting for people to see that this bit of news was noticed outside "the Disney fan community" (so to speak). I wanted to show that yet another big site commented on the situation, that's why I posted this article;)

Well next time, don't post it again. Because DIsney still has hand drawn, They're just not in the works at this time.

Using that logic this entire discussion is pointless and should be locked, since you seem to think there is not even a question if hand drawn are still well and alive at Disney or not. How can you say that "Disney still has hand drawn", when in the next sentence you say that there are no hand drawn in the works? If so, then they have no hand drawn movies at the moment or in the near future, and there is indeed cause for concern, knowing how little faith Disney have in the medium nowadays.

Let me explain why this thread and this discussion will NEVER die. Basically, we are Joseph Gordon Levitt and Zooey Deschanel is hand drawn animation at Disney:

I don’t think most people who think hand-drawn animation is dead believe they will never be made at Disney again, just that they won’t happen very often, with years between. To me, that is essentially "dead," and Disney's primary medium is 3D from here on out. No need to delude ourselves.

How can that translate as "hand drawn is dead"?? They said they don't have any plans for a hand drawn film right now.

And when do you think they will have "plans"? 5, 7, 10 years from now? And if that flops, 15 years after that? Yes, 2D at Disney is very "alive."

Remember when we told you to calm down. Yeah, we want you to be calm. I mean, or else? Seriously, you mean they have to do it immediately or the world ends. Come on, calm down.

He said there are no plans for hand-drawn animated right now. That doesn't mean that the medium is dead. Try being positive for once. :P

Sorry. But a lot people keep saying hand drawn is dead this and hand drawn is dead that, which is so annoying and stressful.

I know, but life goes on. If there is a new traditional animated film made, then yay.

There will probably be a 75/25 polygonal/drawn split, but who knows what will happen if the Meander tech improves.

This is depressing. I mean, if Fantasia 2000, The Emperor's New Groove, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Treasure Planet, Brother Bear, and Home On the Range should of all be hits instead of being a bunch of flops. As much as I have to blame the stupid critics and stupid people, I will also blame Dreamworks for ruining Disney's hand drawn movie legacy, despite that I like some of their movies. I would like to see the ghost of Walt Disney rise from the grave (not ice) and confront Michael Eisner (even though he's no longer a CEO), Bob Iger, and John Lasseter for dissing hand drawn animation and maybe destroy Dreamworks. No offense, Shrek. I know, it's ridiculous, but let's say I got that idea from Fiddler on the Roof.
