It just seemd like when Gothel' turned or moved in which her dress moved there was nothing there but her legs no other layer.

You should totes ask Rapunzel about what's under her dress / Mother Goethel's dress next time you're in the park. That will solve this.

I received my copy of Tangled on Saturday and already watched it 2 times this weekend. I'd seen it in the theaters, but with each viewing, I am noticing something new and enjoying the movie more and more. The animation is superb, and the little nuances in the characters reactions and the way they move/speak is amazing. There are surely some very talented people working at Disney. I wish I was one of them!

From all early reports, it looks like Tangled is selling like hotcakes on home video. I'm looking forward to see how it did in its first week and in the weeks to come!

I think this film will be regarded as a classic down the road, it has all the right stuff. The characters are lovable, the setting picturesque, and Mother Gothel is an epic villain. She might even be my favorite character in the film! She's so dramatic and over the top, it's hilarious.

Me too!! I've just noticed the spinning wheel from Sleeping Beauty when Gothel's combing Rapunzel's hair for the first time, when Rapunzel's a little girl!!

Also, has anyone heard the birds from Sleeping Beauty in the main menu?? and of course, the Sleeping Beauty storybook at the bookstore brief scene in the middle of the kingdom dance sequence (I saw that on some website first), and Sleeping Beauty Eyvind Earl's trees painted in one of the tower walls!! It's Sleeping Beauty everywhere!! LOL

I thought I saw a woman in the kingdom who looked like Cinderella in her servant clothes.

How did the lanterns fly anyway and did they bother to recover them?

I was able to get to two Best Buys last Saturday to see about getting the Pascal plush but neither had it, which killed my interest to get the 3D/Blu-ray/DVD that day. I'll get it some other time since I want to use its code to get a Rapunzel bracelet from DMR before the offer expires.

It's the same principle as a hot air balloon, the heated air inside makes them rise. More info.

That seems like a cool thing to try, except for the potential fire hazard if it lands somewhere while still lit.

Another question: did Rapunzel's parent's name her or was she given the name Rapunzel by Mother Gothel? I am assuming that it was her parents that gave her the name, and I guess Mother Gothel would have heard of it since she presumably lived in the kingdom (Rapunzel couldn't have told her as a baby ). I just thought it strange that she wouldn't rename the child, unless she felt "safe" enough being in the tower that no one would hear the name to associate it with the lost princess? Sorry, this question is pointless, it's a movie, but it just popped into my head when watching it this weekend.

Ive been wondering the same thing myself, since I first saw them and heard they were lanterns. Do these things actually exist? what happens when they land? does the wind eventually put out the flames before it even hits ground, or does it land and create the biggest manmade disaster of all time? As good as now I see light is, these are the kinds of thoughts going through my head in the theater when I Saw it.

Well in the original fairytale, the enchantress (Mother Gothel) names the child because she takes it immediately after birth. I think that Gothel also named Rapunzel in this movie, as the entire kingdom refers to her as "The Lost Princess" and the guards do not recognize the name when Flynn yells that she's in trouble.

I thought Rapunzel's name was based from the flower that gave her her golden hair. The King and Queen and Gothel all knew this.

I read somewhere that most of them sort of "die out" then descend, but there is a real possibility of, you know, creating some crazy forest fire when you use these sorts of lanterns. Which is why they're not used all that often, I figure.

There is a similar tradition in Japan where you light a candle and put in a floating paper boat. Suppose to represent the souls of dead passing on or something. It's in pokemon too.

They remind me of James (and the Giant Peach)'s lantern thing he made out of the bag

The word "rapunzel" actually refers to a leafy vegetable. In the original story, Rapunzel's mother craved rapunzel from an enchantresses garden and began to wither away when she could not eat it. Her husband went and stole it from the enchantress who in turn said she would take his child, who she ended up Rapunzel.

That, and some other videos that appear under suggested videos show that these mass lantern releases are actually just as beautiful as in tangled in real life. And yes, if everything goes as planned, these lanterns "shouldn't" fall until the fire goes out, as there is hot air keeping it up until that time. Because sometimes they catch fire and fall, sadly these mass releases don't happen often in countries other than where it is ceremonial. It truly is a beautiful event.

while we never did anything to tangled's scale, we did lanterns in high school science. you only need a small amount of fuel to get the fire going and the lantern flying. once the flame goes out, down it comes. i remember one was reported landing on a golf course, the nearest being a good 20 min drive away. most put too much fuel on and the sides caught fire before it really got airborne, but they were easily contained.

Ha, that video alone shows one going down in flames about 16 seconds in. hope no one got hurt there...
