I bought TS1 and TS2 today at Toys R Us for a total of $6 and some cents. At first the lady only took the $10 coupons. And then I asked about using the $5 coupons and she tried it and it worked. I was so excited because I basically got them for $3 each. The lady who rang me up even asked where I got the coupons from. : )

I got TS1 and 2 for $8.41 total at Target, because of the two $5 off coupons, the $10 off coupons and a special $10 off each when you buy together discount.

Strangely, the guy working the register oddly reminded me of Ollie Johnston. He almost looked and sounded like him, except his hair wasn't white.

That's great. My target was giving out rainchecks for TS1. I belive they were out of both blu-ray and dvd covers. How is the "game" that comes with the movies?

It was him, for sure.

That's why he let you use both sets of coupons.

Whew! Finally got the movies. We returned to the store that had the first movie and said they were expecting the shipment of the second one at any moment, figuring we'd have better luck there than at the one that said they hadn't been in at all.

We walked around, once again only finding copies of the first movie, so once again, I asked an employee. She said they had no copies of Toy Story 2. Her story changed though when I mentioned I had reserved copies. She then took me to the service counter where they had stacks and stacks of both movies on the floor (which made me wonder if I should have mentioned my reservations on my first trip to the same store earlier today).

Anyway, she hesitated when she realized I'd reserved them at another store, but I explained that the employees at that other store said the movies had never arrived. She called someone in the back to see if any of the copies could be sold to me, and she was given the ok.
She then noticed that the other employee had scanned the DVD codes instead of the combos.

After all that was sorted out, the coupons were a breeze. The total with tax for both was $5.92. Not bad.

Wow. Does this happen every time? How long are these coupons valid for?

I thought I had a good deal!

I do not have an active eBay account, unfortunately. Perhaps we could make a trade? Maybe another slipcover or a DVD?

You're forgetting that the 1.78:1 ratio was made the HD standard in the early nineties, so the ratio was already around at the time both Toy Stories were made. Theatrical ratio is different in this case, simply because there's a standard in theatrical projection. Every CAPS movie was shown at 1.85:1 in theaters as well.

Thanks for the clarification on when the 1.78 came about, I wasn't quite sure when that occured. Of course, I still want the theatrical ratio preserved.
For those who think that it's laughable, or petty, etc., ...well they don't get it. It's about preserving the theatrical version, whether the difference in ratios from the theatrical to the DVD/ presentation is .05 or .5 is besides the point. I believe in preserving the theatrical presentation of any movie whether it's an aspect ratio issue, a DVD presentation that's edited from the theatrical presentation, etc. They have a right to their opinion, as do I.

Also, my apologies for the late response to your post, as I had connectivity to the internet issues yesterday, and couldn't reply. But thanks again for your response, as I've always appreciated your posts in the past, even thought we may not agree on this particular issue.

I used to react like that, too. But seeing as I didn't feel like complaining about a lot of discs that are released (Warner does it to every 1.85:1 movie they release), I more or less let it slip, since it really isn't that much of a difference. I'd rather focus my attention to discs that need to be complained about. But to each his own, obviously. I think that the original soundtrack should always be included, and I know that many people don't see the point of that. And the use of the original studio logo, used at the time the movie was released. I found out that the logo of Toy Story was altered to the new ones (don't know about part 2, but I assume it's the same deal) and I can't stand that.

Just compared a scene from the 2005 dvd and the new Blu-ray for TS2 and the difference is very big. Now I know the new master was used.

3D Pixar zoetrope is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

I got just Toy Story 2 at Target for around $13.00! The coupon worked fine, but I was too scared to use the $5 one (I hadn't brought it anyways). I'm really excited to try out the DVD-ROM!

Apparently I saved $64. Oh, and if you throw in the movie tickets included with the Toy Story combos, you might as well say all three movies were completely free!

I hope they keep throwing out these kids of deals for a while, it's even better than the Up and Monsters Inc. coupons they had going a while back.

Heh, technically you aren't allowed to use both, so whilst the deals still are good we shouldn't be abusing them in case Disney stop doing it.

I like how (although I'm not sure) the other studios have followed Disney's BR+DVD lead. Recent titles from Lionsgate and Warner Bros are combos.

Not sure about the rest yet though I think Universal also does it now.

On a related note how long do you think these will last?

Combo packs that is.

I'm sure it won't go on forever since they make less packaging two together.

But then again, if the time comes where BR is the standard I guess we wouldn't even need the combos anyway.

Surely these are the 3D re-rendered Toy Story 1 & 2s, which I believe had a little tweaking to fix the odd rendering issues which existed in the original films. So doesn't that mean they're right to include the new logo?

We didnt like it in the theaters either...

I didn't mind it so much in the 3-D version, but I have such nostalgic memories of being so wowed when that CGI castle appeared back when I saw Toy Story in '95. So, to see it taken out of future releases is kind of alarming.

I guess this is my "Greedo shooting first".

Well, it might be right, but there really is no need for them to change the logo in the first place. Disney started to finally do the right thing, with the original RKO openings on the early movies, and now they do this. Granted, they also did it with The Nightmare Before Christmas, and I hated it on that too.
If they want to show their new titles so badly, then show those and afterwards show the original logo. It's not that hard.
