Agreed...but I have to admit at this point that I AM skeptical. The only positive information we have are from those who are least likely to know the full story. How irritating...

The status of the Treasures series:

Read UD's Interview with Dave Bossert to find out.

Escapay, I enjoyed the interview very much, but I didn't come away feeling as though my questions regarding the status or continuation of the Treasures had been satisfied. It seemed to me that Mr. Bossert was speculating every bit as much as all of us are!

The rep I talked to didn’t seem too bright when it concerns Disney. At first she had no idea what a True Life Adventure or Silly Symphony was and she had never heard of Leonard Maltin. I think they should keep their reps up to speed on the releases. or at least have them take a quiz on Disney film history. True LIfe Adventures and Silly Symphonies aren't the obscurest of Disney series.

Oh, and thanks for that link. I'm looking at it right now!

Just got the same message, and they've been actively spreading it on other message boards too (Home Theater Forum for example). They must be rather sure that the info is correct!

Or they're blowing smoke to try to minimize the email protests. :(

I prefer to remain optimistic :D

BTW, Disney Customer Service is an outsourced agency...probably the same one you call when your new box of Swiffers is missing the handle.

If it even is BVHE, it could just be someone masquerading as BVHE, oh my God! It could be... You know... The one who must not be named! ;)

I received the BVHE email, too.

Was this a hoax? Was this a cruel Internet joke ("Please re-set your PayPal account by following this link....")?

I called the number provided in the message. It rang in to BVHE, and the operator confirmed that the email was real, sent by a technician this morning (Feb. 1). More Treasures are on the way!

In closing the conversation, she -- in good humor -- apologized that the email seemed too good to be true!! :D

Thanks, Disney! This is GREAT NEWS!!

I also got a second response from customer service that the Treasures will continue. The interview with Dave Bossert is so vague in his answer that I cannot trust it. I would be more accepting of word from Disney customer service than I would be of him. If he is not currently directly involved he may not really know. It seems that if it is not true that Disney is risking ticking off more fans by not being honest. Why would they officially say the treasure will continue if they will not? Also, I think digital bits when he says he has insider word that it can be counted on.

If this is true, my big question would be why hasn't Leonard Maltin been informed? If the answer is they're planning on doing this w/o him, then that's not a very acceptable answer, either. This series was his brain child and has been his baby from day one. I can't imagine anyone else, not even Roy, doing the intros and commentary.

I can however, see Roy introducing future Legacy sets. If the interview is correct, and my interpretation of it is correct as well, The Legacy line will continue the treasures. This would answer the Maltin mystery, the Interview inquiries, the BVHE bafflements and the Treasure truth.

Fine, but WHO will select the material? If it's WDHV marketing people, we are lost.

If we think about it, two waves could essentially finish up the series, so the choices could likely already have been made before the premature "cancellation". We know at least two more volumes of Donald are due, and both Spin & Marty and Hardy Boys have a season or two left in them. The Baca/Swamp Fox set could also be separated and done in one wave each So the two final waves could easily look like this...

Wave 7:
Chronological Donald, Volume 3 (1947-1951)
Spin & Marty, Volume 2 (1956, "The Further Adventures of Spin & Marty")
Hardy Boys, Volume 2 (1957, "The Mystery of the Ghost Farm")
Elfego Baca Volume 2 (remaining 7 episodes)

Wave 8:
Chronological Donald, Volume 4 (1952-1967)
Spin & Marty, Volume 3 (1957, "The New Adventures of Spin & Marty")
Swamp Fox Volume 2 (remaining 5 episodes)
--Some other Treasures Set that has yet to be explored...Disney Rarites Volume 2, maybe? It could include the other known Alice shorts in circulation, along with Susie the Blue Coupe, Casey Bats again, a few well-known educational shorts, etc.

Also, like they did with Davy Crockett later on, I can see the Elfego Baca series re-released in its movie form ("Elfego Baca: Six Gun Law") in a non-Treasures DVD.

What, is he being held against his will? Being forced by evil corporate moguls to either end the series or die?

I think word from Buena Vista Home Entertainment is good enough for me. They sent me a TEXT email, not a marketing-rich graphic message. I don't mean that they've typed everyone a personal email, I'm just saying this isn't a typical graphic communication trumpeting an upcoming DVD release.

Regarding future subjects for the Treasures, as much as I'd REALLY like to get the further adventures of Spin & Marty and The Hardy Boys, if there are, possibly, limited numbers of waves forthcoming, I think Disney would explore other like subjects: namely, the "Annette" serial or "Corky and the White Shadow." You know, giving the public a sampling of Mickey Mouse Club subjects, to introduce/reintroduce franchises to Disney fans.

That's just my thinking....
