You seriously think that they"ll keep the thorns poke his eyes?.
No, actually I don't think so. Certainly they won't SHOW it. My suggstion was that they could TELL instead of SHOW.

There's no way it will happened this way.
She"ll just cast a spell on him that he won't see anything.

I highly doubt Disney will have him blinded by thorns, quoting someone in this forum "in this fragile state they've put themselves in", but it's not like they're going to show a thorn actually pierce his pupil - Only a horror movie would do that. You could just have him fall into a hedge of thorns, screaming, and the next thing you see if him with blood-stained bandages around his eyes.

man, that'd be hot in a kinda sadistic way

Anyhow, I hope they down-play the importance of magic as much as possible - I personally think it cheapens the message, like I thought the climax of sleeping beauty was a little... anti-climatic. I liked Cinderella because The fairy Godmother could be interpreted as someone with connections, and thus Cinderella's story could happen in real life. But if you have to rely on magic to solve the conflict, then we're all screwed :D

That's about how I described it, but without 'blood-stained' bandages (I imagine to see him much later with bandages, when the bleeding has stopped! )But the way you describe it would be just one step removed from a horror movie!

^lol, very true.

I thought the bandages would be good for dramatic effect. Actually, just having the prince look normal, and Rapunzel finding him and being all ecstatic, only to see him not respond and realize somethings wrong... that'd be powerful :)

(as would staying blind be great too, and different)

Well, when magic creates the conflict, I don't think it's that far-fetched for magic to help solve it. Besides, SB and B&tB are really the only ones that have done that--but it's always been for dramatic effect.

Well, you can use magic as a catalyst for the conflict, but if a resolution can only be achieved by magic, the whole situation is completely irrelevant
to us isn't it? Of course, using the same pre-defined limited magic against the antagonist if fine, but that rarely happens. I've seen countless (non Disney, even non-animated) movies where the conflict is resolve so cheaply it just ruins the movie.

I guess your right about it barely happening in Disney movies though. Cindy III is a great example of "having enough magic to turn back time, but not to completely obliterate characters". The Sword in the Stone's "magic can't solve everything" was good too.

ps. Beauty and the Beast didn't rely on magic to solve the conflict... unless it's "the magic of love~"

If you want pregnancy/motherhood in a file, Disney should really do a version of "Rumpelstilksen". Actually I have a script outline I want to send them *lol*

I don't have that book, akhenaten, and I couldn't find it on Amazon, but I did find this booK on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... eimprovemz

I wonder how the story is dealt with in this book. akhenaten, if you have the book still, do you know where it is? Could you look up how the pregnancy and blindness are (or aren't) dealt with? Please??! :) It could be an indication as to how Disney may deal with them in the upcoming film.

Disney's Rapunzel - Magic Solving Conflicts

Similarly, in Sleeping Beauty, the magic of good and true love defeated Maleficent. The fairies needed Aurora's true love to throw the sword, while their goodness or extra fairy whatever helped it along. Then the kiss of true love resolved what the magic had started.

In Snow White, the poison of the apple was more magic potion than arsenic, and true love's magic undid that magic.

Maybe in Cinderella true love kept the slippers glass after midnight. That may be another reason the slippers have hearts on them.

Similarly,
Wasn't all what Flora said about the sword just before crossing Maleficent's heart...or where it should be?....

Interesting...so if I eat an enchanted apple after some arsenic, I can be saved just with a kiss? :P  or is it because an apple a day keeps the doctor awayt?

Wow...and I thought that the cristal heart was just because a normal crystal slipper would be so boring...and hurtful...

Talking about another aspect of the story... anyone knows if there will be songs in Rapunzel and who will compose/write them? Is it going to be an animated musical?

I could be wrong, but wasnt Menken supposed to be doing this film (along with Enchanted) with Newman left to TPatF? If so, this'll surely be a musical. But, again, I'm not completely reliable.

I read that it's going to be a musical.

Disney's Rapunzel

With music by Jeanine Tesori, who is currently writing songs for Shrek on Broadway. Various sources have confirmed it, but
here's one from Animated News. Oh, and we already talked about this many times here on UD. Try searching, unless you really already did and couldn't find it.

Let's hold off for a second. I guess many people would know that "Rapunzel" will be the Disney animated film after next year's "The Princess and the Frog", and it's going to be in CGI, just like "Chicken Little", "The Wild" and "Meet the Robinsons" were.

And speaking of that, I found this album in my record collection which was a Disneyland LP entitled "Best Loved Fairy Tales" and it features a story of "Rapunzel" which would be the next Disney film. I put this on YouTube and here it is. This is the story of "Rapunzel" which will be coming out in 2010.

i just discovered that the Storybook Ride in Disneyland Paris includes Rapunzel's tower! And it looks very much like the first design of the tower (When the film was still called 'Rapunzel Unbraided')!
I couldn't find a picture of it, but here in this video you see it..
