Hey it's better than Test Track! I mad my middle-aged Mom go on Mission Space it and she yelled at me the whole time!

TIP: I heard from people that work at Nasa that if you go on Mission Space and move your head than you're most likly to get injured! If you stay you head in one place then you probably won't have get hurt in any way!

No. Splash Mountain and other rides at Disney have had deaths, but none of them has closed down

The problem is that some people don't heed any warnings because they don't take them seriously, but they are there for a reason. And people get careless when they don't realize or believe that there's any real danger. It's been rare for the parks to have been at fault.

I am surprised that someone would be that freaking stupid to take a 4 YEAR OLD on a thrill ride!!! Come on, man, it's like rocketing into space! Nimrod!

I've just read this topic and like many others, I must say it is heart breaking. I didn't actually know this ride existed (I haven't been to Disney World in years and haven't paid attention to it, frankly), but I'm not sure if it ought to exist, as if it is intense and little ones have the ability to access it, there will be more cases like this.

A 23-year-old Spanish woman felt like her "head was rolling around" after riding. She passed out a short time later, never regained consciousness, and died on Sept. 1, 2000. She had a preexisting brain aneurysm, and her family is suing Disney, claiming the ride triggered her collapse and death.

But I hope Disney still continues to run Mission Space and people continue to go on it! It's really an amazing ride and no one can really get hurt if they lay their head in one place! I just hope the family and Disney can get things settled!

How many 4 year olds haven ridden the ride since it was first opened? Really, how many? We'll never know. This 4 year old may be an isolated incident. When you think of the 1000s of people who walk through those gates everyday, one must wonder how many young children have ridden it with NO ill effects. I would be very surprised if this boy was 100% healthy.
If he is, as I said, Disney will need a SERIOUS revision of their requirments.

No matter how you look at it, it's tragic. And my heart goes out to the family members there.

I doubt the ride will be shut down all together. You know how many people have been injured and died on ferris wheels since they first made them in what...the 1800s-early 1900s. Ferris Wheels are MUCH more dangerous then a space simulator. And Ferris Wheels will never die. So I don't think Disney should shut down the ride due to one death, that may or may not even be their fault.

Well, if it does turn out to be their fault I agree with many people here that they should then add an age requirement.

This age requirement should probably be added to almost all the thrill rides, the roller coasters, and any ride in which children have been injured, killed or may experience an intense fear (a cousin of mine went on the Haunted Mansion and he still insisted on keeping his eyes closed forty-five minutes after the ride ended. He was terrified). Here are some attractions that I believe should have this requirement if Disney is at fault for this boy's death. You can add any that you want--I'm sure I'm missing a number of them, since most of these are from Disneyland.
THRILL RIDES
Tower of Terror (age should be at least eight years old)
Star Tours (six or seven)
Indiana Jones (mentioned twice on this list)
ROLLER COASTERS
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster
California Screamin'
Splash Mountain (seven or eight)
Big Thunder Mountain (seven or eight)
Space Mountain (I haven't been on this ride since I was little...I hated it)
Matterhorn Bobsleds (seven or eight)
INTENSE FEAR
Haunted Mansion
Indiana Jones
Honey, I Shrunk the Audience
Space Mountain

I love that attraction-it rox.

When i used to work @ WDW, i would see parents dragging their kids on the rides all the time-even the ones they didnt want to go on in the first place & the kids would scream & cry they didnt want to go.

Not that that had anything to do w/ the incident, but maybe this child was really really scared, & passed out from fright.

I agree, more restrictions even if its s childs age restriction should be added for the thrill rides.

In response to the question about Body Wars, the entire Wonders of Life pavillion is open "seasonally" which means when the parks are really busy and crowded, they'll open it. Otherwise, the whole thing is closed for most of the year.

Its sad that a 4 year old had to die, but there are at least three explicit warnings before you get on the ride. Its a simulator, but now way should a parent be taking a 4 year old on it. I've been on Mission: Space several times, its a lot of fun and is a very unique experience. The simulators spin in multiple directions which produces G forces that you can actually feel pulling back on your face.

Well, of course they could. At this rate, I could sue my best friend because she told me that she didn't like the birthday present I gave her. There are two questions that you could really mean:
1. Will the boy's parents file a lawsuit against Disney?
2. Will the boy's parents win a lawsuit against Disney?
We don't know the answers to either question, though.
