I've been in kind of a Disneyland mood today, planning out a trip there on July 17th. So--those I'm breaking my own rules--here are a few quiz questions about Disneyland.

VERY EASY

Which of the following names doesn't belong and why

Buff. First Mate of the Mark Twain. Big Al. Fritz. The broken bust.


Very Easy

Which of the following names doesn't below and why.

Ghost Host. A score of pirates. The voice of Innerspace. Tom Morrow.


EASY:
The Haunted Mansion ballroom contains an organ that, before it made its way to the theme park, was used as a prop in a rather famous live action Disney film. Name it. (Hint: this same organ was once featured in a very early, walk-through Tomorrowland attraction as well, before finally finding a home in the Haunted Mansion in the late 1960s.)

MEDIUM:
When American Sings, the Tomorrowland attraction, closed in the mid-1980s, many of the characters were re-costumed and placed in Splash Mountain. HOWEVER, two of the barbershop quartet geese were stripped of their features and placed in a different Tomorrowland attraction. Name the attraction and the new identites of the former American Sings geese.

HARD:
The windows on Main Street contain many names of Disney Legends (both those who worked on films and on theme parks). Walt Disney's own father is even included, his name stenciled on a window along with the title "Contractor." Walt's name is not commemorated on a Main Street Window. It is, however, included elsewhere in the park in a similar fashion on a window. Where?

Very Easy: First Mate of the Mark Twain and The Broken Bust, all the other names from "The Country Bears" attraction.

Easy: A Score of Pirates and Ghost Host because the other two names were names of characters in Tomorrowland.

Medium: The barbershop quartet geese are in the attraction "Star Tours" and are featured as robots while you wait in line.

Hard: I have no idea. But I'll take a wild guess and say he's some where at the Haunted Mansion.

Ah yes, two of the old American Sings geese have in fact become repair robots in the Star Tours pre-show area. Good eye.

As for the answers to the two very easy questions--
Not right. First off, Fritz belongs in the Tiki Room, not the Bear Playhouse. But beyond that, there is only ONE ITEM in each Very Easy question that doesn't belong with the others.

And Walt's window did not end up in the Mansion. No matter how you walk the distance, you are more than one "land" away.

Very Easy: Then Maybe the answer is just Broken Bust? All of the othe people on the list are alive but The Broken Bust isn't.

Easy: A score of pirates are the only characters on the list that aren't your "host". The voice of Innerspace was the host of "The Adventures of Inner Space", Ghost Host was the host of "The Haunted Mansion and Tom Morrow is the host of "Innoventions".

Hard: Well I guessing somewhere outside of the park or DCA(California Adventure) because of the hint you gave me!

Because you seem to know a lot about Disneyland, do you know anything about the original Haunted Mansion?

My dad said that the Haunted Mansion was around before Disney says it was. They closed the Mansion down because it was scarier than it is now--ghosts would suddenly touch you or pop out of nowhere. People were having heart attacks, so they closed it down and left the building empty for years.

That is a big fat lie. The mansion was never like that!

I actually have a picture in an old book on Disneyland that proves my father's point. The book is entitled "Disneyland: The Inside Story" or something like that.

I remember the Haunted Mansion From when I was a kid back in the 70's at Disney World and toward the end of the ride you went through an area with mirrors and when you looked in there would be a ghost sitting with you in the car

Though not quite right, you are VERY close when you consider the voice? So which one is not like the other?

Sadly, your dad is mostly wrong. He is somewhat right on this one point: the haunted mansion did remain empty for years. It was initially designed during the last years of Walt's life, and after his death, within the company, there was a great deal of disagreement about how to develop the ride. It opened in 1969, three years after Walt's passing. It has been open continuously since then--except for refurbishments and to craete the holiday overlay in the theme of nightmare before christmas.

The "heart attack" legend is an urban myth. No one has ever died on the ride from a heart attack brought on by the mansion's scares. But to be fair to your dad, I've heard this story many times. This also might have something to do with the hatbox ghost story, as well.

After it initial opening the mansion was never closed for years, as your dad claims--though the building itself was empty for many years before the ride was installed in it (and the ajoining warehouse). Over the years of development, the mansion was initially slated to be built as a walk-through attraction off Main Street, where guests would visit a haunted house from the early 1900s. Later, it was designed to be built in (what is now) New Orleans Square as a walk-through ride in which guests would visit the house of a sea captain who killed his wife. After much haggling--over whether to make the ride scary or amusing (amusing clearly won out)--the ride was designed mainly as a omnimover attraction to accomodate more guests per hour.

One might think that there's a broken bust in this attraction that would correspond perhaps to one of the 6/2 questions.

Well it's not outside of the park NOW, but it's certainly outside of the original Disneyland. It's even outside of the park as it existed in the early 1990s.

Very Easy: Big Al, this is the only character that isn't voiced by Thurl Ravenscroft. How could I be so blind!

Very Easy:Tom Morrow because he's not voiced by the other characters on the list.

Easy: I'm taking another wild guess and saying that it came from the Parent Trap?

Yes, Thurl voices all except Big Al. Good Eye--or um Ear.

And yes, Paul Frees voices all on the second list except Morrow. Excellent

As for the third answer, not the Parent Trap. The mansion's organ is a grand pipe organ. What Disney villain would own such an item? Maybe that helps.

And Chay,
You bet, a half court is inside the Matterhorn, about halfway up.

I've never seen it, I just read about it on a Urban Legends website that was very fascinating.
