There is something that Disney people should think really carefully before they do the casting! Is Jodi Benson's voice still fresh and young for Ariel?(of course I can't even imagine Ariel without Jodi's voice!!!!). On the other hand, in case that it will be a prequel , there has to be a little girl to do little Ariel's voice. I would choose Lilo's voice for that- wasn't that voice really cute?? :)

Don't you think Ariel grows up. If it is The Little Mermaid III shouldn't it be taking place after The Little Mermaid II.

I'll watch the second sequel if...

- it has good animation (such as The Lion King 1 1/2 and Lion King 2)
- Alan Menken supervising the songs and/or score (hey, Phil Collins is doing the second Tarzan sequel...)
- the same 2 directors, John Clements and John Musker, come back
- the songs are catchy

Not necessarily! It could be a prequel, about Ariel's childhood, or a midquel, while Ariel is still young.

Most probably

I don't think so... There could be a small chance that they would hire him, but I think his asking price is way too much for the DisneyToon Studios (if they want to have a decent story and animation). The songs will probably be inspired by the original songs though...

I think they were fired by Disney after Treasure Planet bombed at the box office. The DisneyToon Studios will probably invite them over to see a screening of it though, and they can give their approval or disapproval (but I'm sure it will be their approval).

Ideas for Little Mermaid III:

The Little Mermaid III: The Big Mermaid

Prince Eric becomes King, and more and more of his time is spent on affairs of the state. Feeling neglected, Ariel turns to comfort food, and soon grows in girth. Rejected by the people, Ariel turns once more to the sea seeking out her father, King Neptune.

However, once in the water, she is mistaken for a Whale, and chased by Captain Ahab who is convinced she is his deadly aquatic nemesis Moby Dick.

The Little Mermaid III: Finding Melody

Melody ignores her mother's advice, and swims far out to see. Egged on by Merboys and Mergirls, Melody swims out to touch a big boat. In the process she is captured and put on show as a circus freak. She quickly befriends the other freaks in the tank though, who have already got a plan to escape.

Meanwhile Ariel goes looking for Melody and teams up with a fish who is unable to make new memories.

The Little Mermaid III: Here's What Really Happened

When Ariel gets her legs, every step she takes is like walking on broken glass. At the end of the story, she realises she cannot stay on land with her Prince, and returns to the sea, where she will live out the rest of her days as the frothy foam on the waves surface. Kids everywhere begin to cry.

The Little Mermaid III: Return to the Return to the Sea

Ariel, Melody. New Kid. Swimming. Nasty Sea-Witch. The End.

Those are some clever ideas, Netty. And to think some sequels settle for just redoing the original film with a twist!

to expand upon Mr net's synopsis #2:

As Ariel is as large as a whale swimming about in the ocean, she opens up her mouth to take in a breath of air where she accidentally swallows Pinocchio and Gepetto aboard a small raft. This plot turn would segway beautifully into "Pinocchio II: Life inside Ariel".

Pinocchio II: Life inside Ariel

As Pinocchio and Geppeto struggle to free themselves from a Mermaid's digestive system they come up against hilarious plot twist. Flipper a dolphin with a non plagiarised helps to free them with his God given gift of balancing a ball on it's nose. The Blue Fairy is not able to help them as she can't fit through Ariel's blow hole! When who should turn up but Gideon and Foulfellow! As Ariel swims for her life, our heroes fall down into Ariel's stomach, how will they escape? Will we be able to recognise them from their half digested corpses? If they survive will anybody want to approach them because of the smell?

I still think that they should just do the prequel; The Little Mermaid -1, which is simply the original animated classic minus everything originally in it; yes, this is just an empty DVD box you are getting. :)

What a perfect idea!!!Just Ariel and Eric, without that little- causing problems-worm(Melody! :D ), and while Ariel is still 16, and not a 30-year-old mother!! And with a new human villain that tries to seperate them because she wants Eric for herself- could it be the princess of Glowehaven?Ooooooooh that could a beautiful midquel, a perfect one!!! And it ends when Melody is born!!!!

:o Ohhhh GOD!!!!!!1 I hope not!!!!!!!! I am literally praying for a pre- (or mid) -quel!!!!!!!!!!!

As I had said in another thread, I'd love a prequel where we can see baby/toddler Ariel and Flounder (and also all of Ariel's sisters as babies/toddlers!) Plus we'll find out about Ariel's mother, as well as King Triton and Ursula's past! :) :) :)

I agree with Mermaid Kelly I would love to see some sort of story behind what happended to Ariel's Mother (maybe it has something to do with Triont's major dis trust toward humans and Ursal and Morgan I mean what about them??

Although in reality I have a hunch that the new movie will have to do with Melody a lil bit older and just the exact opposite of The original movie. Melody falls in love with a Merboy I amj ust assuming by the way the 2nd movie ended.

For those who don't remember how awful "The Little Mermaid II" was, how about some pictures?

Image
Who are these? Barbie and Kent? No, they are Ariel and Eric!

Image
Some Goodtimes level of animation.

Image
Are those the characters we knew and loved from the first film? Nooo... they look like some plastic models.

It isn't just because I'm a Disney sequel hater... actually, some of them have been from watchable to good (The Enchanted Christmas, The Lion King 1.1/2...) but "The Little Mermaid II" doesn't even deserved to be released under the Disney banner. There is not a single redeeming quality about it. Recycled plot from the first film, horrible songs (have you ever paid attention to those lyrics?) and animation that makes even some Good Times films look good. But it made a heck of money, so what does it care for Disney if it is good or not?

Then we have a very different opinion! I thought The Little Mermaid II was a great sequel. OK, some things in it were a little too childish and I didn't really like how Flounder grew up to this ugly fish, but that didn't really distract much from the fact that this one is a great little movie. It doesn't even try to overwhelm the original (which it can't, btw). I liked the songs and I thought the level of animation was fairly good for a sequel made around that time (remember Hunchback II?). You say the songs had ridiculous lyrics? Well, what Disney movie doesn't have one or two of these? Ok, this one might have all ridiculous lyrics, but I don't really see how you could critisize on that since it's a little DTV sequel that isn't even trying to be majestic.

Anyway, The Little Mermaid II entertained me when I saw it... I would even want to see it again! (sadly it was a rental, and the DVD is not for sale here anymore)

Btw, here are some stills that show the good animation (and not picking out the "bad" animation):
