I would say that it's starting to look less and less like a drastic and rapid format change is in order. That's to say nothing of the increase in quality (perceived or measured) in the next-generation players, but just that most people are pretty content with DVD, have invested a decent amount in viewing material, don't have HDTV-playing capabilities, and aren't in any hurry to replace it. The fact that there are two opposing camps certainly isn't helping matters, either.

On a semi-related note, while Peter Pan is slated to be reissued next year, I don't think that we can read that as its expulsion from the Platinum Collection. But if it needs to be said again, we all seem to care far more about consistency to the Platinum line than BVHE itself does.

DVD signals are 480 lines of resolution where as HD is 720 and 1080, which is a DRAMATIC improvement. If you have HD you DO know the difference, otherwise odds are you think you've been viewing HD content, but haven't. Possibly Digital, which IS NOT!!!! HD, digital is only a lousy 540 lines of resolution I believe, which isn't enough to even notice.

I come to assume you either own a Rear Projection big old HDTV, and not a new LCD/DLP/Plasma(Which I personally hate because of burn-in), you're not experiencing TRUE HDTV. Trust me, you WOULD notice, so I doubt you are watching HD

Assuming that you're really watching HDTV, you might be sitting too far away from the set to appreciate the difference. A regular 32" tv may look good from a distance of 10 feet (3 meters). But for HDTV, your viewing distance should typically be no more than twice the screen's width. If that's impractical, you may want a larger set (or a projector) to fully enjoy HDTV.

I was wondering if they're going to release Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs again.

Yes i believe they are.

My guesses are in 2007 (For a "70th Anniversary Edition")
or in 2012 (For a 75th Anniversart Edition")

That also came from singerguy04!

If they don't change their schedule, then yes, in October of 2008:

Snow White 70th Anniversary Platinum Edition Discussion

Though we could need a topic for this now that we know it's coming...

Currently I dont have the 2001 PE of this movie so I'm definately gonne get it when it comes in 2008...

Im thinking it will have the same restoration just a better transfer due to either better compression tecnology or the fact that it could be released onto HD-DVD/Blu-Ray...

I could alsovery well imagine that this could be the first animated classic on High Definition DVD... Imagine a campaign like the one in 2001 - Walt's first masterpiece is the first DVD to be released in the superior Platinum Edition range...

Those first two sentences peg it for two different years and neither is right. It's supposed to be re-released in 2008, which would be the 71st anniversary of the film. Though, based on Disney's Lady and the Tramp cheat, they could very well cheat on this one too.

Can't think of anything new they could add to the release, the first was truly exhaustive and leaves little room for improvement. Though, of course, I wouldn't mind a complete redubbing of SW's voice with someone less grating on the ears, but that's just me and I'm sure it'll be considered sacrilege to everyone else...

I agree with you actually, but it wont happen.

I think they should just wait for it's 75th, but it looks like that's not going to happen. I would just like to see other PE's before this one again. i guess that's all i can really say about the manner, and i'll probably be saying it over and over again even though i'm sure nothing will change.

 In Germany everyone is freaking out that SW was dubbed 3(!!!) times. Every time the dubbing got worse  It's sad :(

I'd like the original theatrical poster for the cover art, That would be cool, like they did it with the Early DAC box in Japan.

how much do you guys wanna bet this has more fluff, games and music videos? I bet this loses all the substantial extras and gets loads of newly created materical with today's artists babbling on and on about how groundbreaking it was.

I can totally see it.

I'll pass on this. The Platinum edition is the definitive edition.

There are only a couple of movies I'll buy more than once, and this ain't one of them. Honestly, besides being the first animated movie, what's so great about it? I'd rather they release the PE of Fantasia (which I despise) before this one again.
