Not just because its my idea, but I really think it would be an awsome countdown, countless possibilities and there are so many truly great ones.
Luke, what do you think about it?
It's a good idea and one I've considered, but there'd be some overlap with "Best Songs", and so not yet. But it'll definitely be tackled in the future...whenever that may be.
Cool, thats true about possible overlaps, but no biggie.

My second choice would be sidekicks.

Disney heroes and heroines! I've been waiting for this one for quite awhile...mostly because I guess that it would be a little easier of a countdown for me, at least...
Looks like it may actually win this time! :) Yay!

It's looking like we're leaning towards Heroes & Heroines for this time. I'll let this voting run through Wednesday, so that we can start voting for whatever topic is decided upon shortly after.

There's been some good suggestions for future countdowns: Disney Scenes, Disney Couples.

These definitely sound like topics to consider when we vote for the next countdown, presumably in the summer.

I voted for Hero & Heroines, but I think maybe it would be good to split the two up? Then again, there's really only about 10 in each gender. I think we need to establish what a Hero & Heroine are. The main question I think is: Are we voting for characters that are truly Heros/Heroines, or are extending that definition to encompass all main characters/major protagonists. I'm just wondering, because I can picture some people nominating Winnie the Pooh, on the sole basis that he's the star of his movie. I know, I'm such a purist.

Countdowns

My vote was for Disney Legends. It may be easiest to focus on the acting side of this, but maybe in the future, we could ALSO rank the real Disney Legends -- the people that Disney has recognized, found at: http://disney.go.com/vault/legends/index.html

Regarding Best Cartoon Shorts (without the word "Cartoon" it wouldn't be much of a ranking.... Mickey was about the only character to wear shorts!), this would be a daunting task. It could be simplified into ranking character lineups: Mickey's top 10 shorts, Donald's top 10, Goofy, etc. Even rank miscellaneous shorts (Lambert the Sheepish Lion, etc.) and perhaps allow the freedom to include segments from the likes of Fantasia, Make Mine Music, etc. (Johnny Fedora & Alice Bluebonnet, Once Upon a Wintertime, Johnny Appleseed, Casey @ the Bat....).

Breaking down Shorts by characters would also work, in that, we don't have access to all of Donald's and Pluto's works yet. Meanwhile, we could get to work on MM and Goofy (I know, we're missing some of the Goof....).

Thanks for that link, C3PO. I remember I posted the press release last summer for their 2004 inductions, but my curiosity to find out who had been bestowed with the Disney Legends honor had gone unsatiated until now! It's definitely a great place to start when we head down that road. Your comments about Shorts are valuable too. It may be too difficult to just say "Best Shorts" and deal with everything, since every character has a mold and while some cartoons work better than others in each mold, it's tough to compare such vastly different material.

For Heroes & Heroines, I'm thinking we'd have a list of 50 characters in total: 25 Heroes, 25 Heroines. That might sound like a lot, but all the characters in all the Walt Disney Pictures movies on these pages would be fair game:

http://www.ultimatedisney.com/liveaction.htm
http://www.ultimatedisney.com/oldliveaction.htm
http://www.ultimatedisney.com/directtovideo.htm

And that's a lot of heroic personalities to choose from!

How can Pooh not be considered a hero? He goes on adventures and will do anything for his friends. Don't diss the poor guy merely because he's chubby and a little slow-witted.

So would they heroes and heroines be separate lists- or all mixed together with a quota of 25 each?
