Luckily I have been collecting the PE's from the start so I'm all set but I don't really think Disney is going to go back and re-release the same movies since the most recent ones will warrant a platinum release. Like the pixar movies and non-platinum releases should be upgraded first. We'll see though.

Either that, or he's really "proud" of his collection, and needs to remind everyone that he owns "43 of the 44 animated classics."

Beauty and the Beast will be re-released October 2009 not 2012. This is also the same for Snow White, it was first released October 2001 and it will be re-released October 2008. Meaning Platinum editions are released every 7 years.

Disney UK confirms otherwise.... I guess this is one of those wait-and-see situations...

Bu the time of 2009, Beauty and the Beast will be released in the new format (Blu-ray)

I really don't care if you own 43 out of the 44 animated classics. You've mentioned it A LOT in the forums, and you don't need to keep talking about your collection all the time. I frankly think its a waste of money to have all of the animated classics.

That is if Blue-Ray makes it, Not all formats make it. Beta didnt make it, neither did picture discs. I for one hope it does not make it. I dont want to have to go out and buy all new equipment again

You won't have to. VHS survived (and survives still to some extent) long after DVD arrived, and the advantages of DVD over VHS outweigh Next-Gen DVD over DVD (not least because you don't have to buy a new television to get the benefit).

DVD will still be around for a long time to come, and I wouldn't be surprised if by the time 'normal' DVD does eventually die-out, there won't be next-next-gen DVD about to/recently launched, enabling people to skip a generation if they desire.

I know that Disney has already tied them self with blu-ray. However I don't see why anyone is expecting any of the platinums or even any of the feature animations as the first things they start releasing in the format.

You have to admit that Disney's target audience is kids, this can be seen more and more in the special features that are put on dvd's these days. Because of that Disney took a couple years to start releasing the features on regular dvd because they wanted it to be a more mainstream market to sell to families w/kids and not just the early adoptors. I don't see them doing anything different when blu-ray comes out.

The delay could take even longer this round as the HD-DVD/Blu-ray competition is keeping even early adoptors at bay which will only delay the format that will win mainstream selling. So could it take another 6 years or so for beauty and the beast to come out, well yes it could.

The only way I could see disney releasing their feature animation out on blu-ray quickly would be if they were to create a target release just for collectors (like the treasures) Something that would just get eaten up by early adoptors. But we all know that disney doesn't like to do stuff like that.... cuz if you release the perfect version of these movies as a matching set or what not, who would rebuy it?

Sorry for the rant, but disney putting things oop is nothing new... they have been doing it since the vhs days. Ya miss a release you just have to live without it.. or pay more. I think it's hopeful wishing that Blu-ray will bring the instant release of anything.
