I can't wait for this release. I've never seen Pocahontas, but I really want to. I have avoided buying the Gold Collection release, because several people have said that the picture is pretty bad. So, even though I've never seen the movie, I'll buy the 10th Anniversary Edition when it comes out.
Man, 2005 is shaping up pretty well for Disney DVD's. I can't wait to get my hands on Bambi, The Incredibles, Pocahontas, and Cinderella! I don't own any Disney films on VHS, so it's been decades since I've seen Bambi and Cinderella!
Yahooooo...I can't wait!!!

All those and presumably the 2-disc release of
Lilo & Stitch. Yes, indeed 2005 will be kind to us fans.

Yeah, I know how you feel. I also didn't get the
Tarzan CE and now, in order to get one, I have to be willing to pay an arm and a leg.
I hope a rerelease of a
Tarzan SE isn't terribly far behind.

Yeah, I forgot about renting. Thanks for reminding me! I need to find the BlockBuster card though.
"New" Song in Pocahontas

Having seen the footage of the song they're reintergrating into the film for this DVD release, I have to say I'm excited. It really drives home the relationship between John and Pocahontas, which I think could have been stronger in the original release.
Additionally, I am hoping that the "original" theatrical release is actually that, and not an adjusted cut like they did for the Lion King DVD.

Since
Pocahontas wasn't meant to be shown on IMAX, I'm pretty sure that they didn't tinker with any of the drawings. This DVD has been available in other countries on other regions long before we even had a set date and I don't recall any complaining so it's 99.9% that nothing was altered in the original theatrical version.

Not that I believe everything he writes, but Jim Hill said
here...
Jim Hill wrote:The real sad part of this story is that the IMAX versions of "Aladdin," "The Little Mermaid" and "Pocahontas" are reportedly already prepped and sitting in the can, ready to unspool."
Aladdin was apparently refined to give greater detail for the IMAX release which never happened and that's what made it to DVD. No unmistakable changes like The Lion King. It may be the same case for Pocahontas, but hopefully we're not far from actually delivering "the original theatrical cut."

Does anyone know if this extra edition of the movie will reduce the space of extra features? Aladdin only had one version of the film, and as of today, it's one of the best Special Editions have pulled out. Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King, both with multiple versions of the film, haven't been so sucessful. (I believe Mulan is a better set than the later two, but I assume I'm in the minority there - case in point, one version means better disc set.) Also, is "If I Never Knew You" more than just a montage of scenes from early on in the movie?

No need to worry about the quantity of special features - considering the region 1 edition is going to be just like the international version, I think it might be one of Disney's most comprehensive special editions.
Regarding "If I Never Knew You", there is a flashback sequence in the middle of the song with a montage from earlier scenes. That is because since John and Pocahontas are in a tent, there isn't a whole lot they can do, so they put the flashback in the middle of the scene to make it more "dinamic".

Thanks Joe, we can always count on you!

This is so funny, but I actually heard the whole song the other day for the first time! I really enjoyed it, and it's pretty strong lyrically speaking. Does anyone here think that maybe if it was included in the movie in 1995, it would have given "Colors of the Wind" a run for the Academy Award?

If I never knew you was released on the soundtrack back in 1995. It didn't give Colors of the Wind a run for its money. It was actually my favourite song back then and it still is now. It's amazing how many people missed the ending credits back in 1995

An updated version of the cover with the inevitable "all-new scene" banner.

why exactly is that banner neccisary? To me it's looking more and more tacky as the days pass... i think someone needs to fix her face! she still looks like a fish to me!

Hmmm....there is a video store in Hampton, NH, where my grammy lives and there actually is a copy of the
Tarzan: Collector's Edition! It also
had Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (but I bought it)
**P.S...
