I know it's no exclusive or anything but my friend who works in HMV said the Toy Story DVD has definitely been discontinued now...it's so weird how there are really big publicity special editions yet for the moment they're all coming out really quickly.

The only standard DVD I bought was the Fox & The Hound because it is one of my favourites. The good thing about the more recent ones coming out quickly (Mulan, Tarzan, Pocahontas) is that hopefully the older ones like Dumbo and Alice In Wonderland will be following with the same haste (though the lack of extras on a few of them has been rather disheartening).

Edit: Sleeping Beauty has also been discontinued apparently. These are probably really old bits of news but ANOTHER re-release for that!?

I don't have Sleeping Beauty but I thought the Platinum Edition thing was America only...what other DVDs have been given this thing?

The Platinum releases are worldwide and have mostly the same features. But only in the US it's really reffered to as PE. The rest of the world just calls it a Special Edition DVD. It's still the same though!

Oh! Gotcha now. I just did a count up and have 19 Disney films...I really want to get most of them but I think I missed the B&TB and Snow White special editions so I'll have to get those...how long do we think it'll be until they announce another batch of 6 or so films to get a re-release? I was thinking about September time maybe?

OK the official word from BVHE UK is:moths ago:

2005
Setember - Lilo and Stitch
October - Cinderella

2006
March - Lady and the Tramp
October - The Little Mermaid

2007
March - The Jungle Book
October - 101 Dalmatians

2008
March - Pinocchio
October - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

2009
March - Peter Pan
October - Beauty and the Beast

2010
October - The Lion King

2011
March - Fantasia
March - Fantasia 2000
October - Aladdin

Note: titles in red are merely my hypothesis, based upon the current platinum line up!

It is also possible (although merely wishful thinking at this stage) that we will see The Hunchback of Notre Dame in 2006 and Hercules in 2007.

Thanks ichabod! I think we'll see HoN sometime in September 2006 as a supporting DVD for the Platinum release, as is the case with Lilo and Stitch! I also think 2010 will be the Sleeping Beauty release, because expecting The Lion King to make all the profits that year is absurd.

I'm already very worried about holiday season 2006! I'm really going to have to save up since my plan is to go all out with The Little Mermaid (Box Set, R2 PE and the soundtrack). It's my favourite movie ever made! Add to that HoN, Cars, PotC 2 and any other surprise release we might be seeing. Turns out I'll be spending quite a lot! :P

Is it possible at all that we'll see some of the lesser-known films like Oliver & Company getting re-releases? I'm just basing this on the fact that along with the well publicised re-releases like Bambi, Tarzan and Mary Poppins, we also got Mulan, Pocahontas, Dumbo and Alice In Wonderland (Ok, they are well known) which didn't have much publicity at all.

Alice in Wonderland and Dumbo did get quite a bit of publicity, in my opinion; I saw a number of adverts on the TV, Disney Store and other DVD releases for these movies and I saw Dumbo was being shown on the big screen in a Woolworths and Alice on a big screen in Virgin Megastore.

As for lesser films like Oliver and Company getting new releases, anything is possible. For a while it was only thought that the top sellers like Beauty and the Beast or recent releases like The Emperor's New Groove would get a 2 Disc Set, but as Pocahontas, Mulan and in Region 1 only (the Region 2 version is nothing more than a parred down version of the American/Canadian edition ), Alice in Wonderland have gotten sets, there are possibilities of lesser films getting ultimate editions. Plus, with sequels being rumoured for The Aristocats and The Fox and the Hound, I think that Disney would release a 2 Disc set of the original to promote the sequel.

I do hope so...and I know they got some promotion...I saw a few adverts but I thought Dumbo would get much more...I'd have given it the same that they gave Aladdin and The Lion King and released it on its own...not at a time when loads were released.

Not that I'm complaining of course, the more that are re-released the better, it's just a shame that they aren't really giving them a chance to sell, as the sales charts show, I guess most people can't afford to buy 5 or 6 Disney DVDs in such close proximity.

Meh...kind of annoyed by the Cinderella date. It doesn't exactly fit in with my lifestyle at that time...it just comes out the last day of my half term, and if I bought it from Play.com and it arrived earlier, it still may not be of any use as I sense that my family will make me do something that weekend, and knowing my business in the following weeks, I won't be able to get through the features for some time. Perhaps the Gift Set will be an option after all...

Also, I believe that an Alice in Wonderland/Dumbo/The Aristocats box set will be released on 31st October, too. I can also imagine another number of currently available Disney titles, particularly single discers being available in numerous box sets, as I believe something similar happened around the time of Beauty and the Beast's release.

Oh and this may excite fans of Atlantis... ;)

I was just thinking the same. I mean usually I'd go for the best value one but something about boxsets when none of my other Disney DVDs are in boxsets makes me want to spend more and buy them seperately.

You do realise the boxsets and just the ordinary amaray dvds inside an outer box. It's not like a TV show boxset for example.

Yeah, well anyone who is willing to spend an extra £10, needs a brain scan in my opinion! ;)

Anyway, you can all relax, I know that for months everybody has been asking the same thing! "When will Cadet Kelly see a UK release?", *Andy*'s been having sleepless nights, Wondy's been sending threatening letters to BVHE telling them to release it and I planned to kidnap Hilary Duff, well our action has paid off and we will be getting Cadet Kelly on August 1st.

By the way if you didn't note the sarcasm, go kill yourself now!
