I wouldn't mind alterations if they included the original versions too. But apart from artistic/historical reasons ("Art should not be modified" "History should not be rewitten" etc) there is also a personal reason component. Maybe someone saw it that way and grew to love it that way and now he/she/it can't get it back
You're forgetting the essential part of myth (after all, that's what these essentially are, myths). Myths have changed vastly through many years. The main strength of myth is that it is fluid and changes with each telling. Whether that change comes with ones understanding, or an actual physical change in the movie, the experience is different every time you watch the movie, therefore there is no way one can recapture the "original theatrical feeling" of the movie, and those looking to do so are on an impossible journey. I don't mean to sound harsh or anything, but it is the truth. Thus, a few minor changes (changed colours and a few redesigned characters (that only appear once in the whole movie)) are not that huge of a deal (at least in my opinion).

The Little Mermaid in my opinion needs a heavy restoration. It's a beahutiful movie and I think it'll look breathtaking on DVD. Especially those underwater scenes.

I would say Dumbo. I just saw it twice (not entirely, just second half) for two consecutive days on Disney channel, I would really like to see the Pink Elephants on parade fully restored. Dumbo must get an SE ASAP!

I actually like The Sword in the Stone the way it is. But it would be nice to see Dumbo restored and The Fox and the Hound. I haven't seen The Great Mouse Detective in so long... I'll be excited to get the restored DVD version of that movie.

i think sleeping beauty needs another level of restoration to give it the cel look. and the films from the 70s definitely need a high restoration.they look too old and dull. the fox and the hound yes...and the black cauldron.
somehow..i wish pocahontas could b restored to match the colors on the screensaver and trading cards which were more vibrant,less blueish and more towards green.i dont see that happening to the 10th anniversary edition.
