Oh, yes, I get the color confusion on Lucinda's dress. Thank you so much for your comments, I am so glad you like the Witch costume so much,
Amy!
Next up: Cinderella's Stepmother in her first night ball gown.
This is another of my favorites! Her theme is jewels, like her Disney 1950 Cinderella stepmother inspired brooch, but the bright pink trim on her overskirt ends in flower-like shapes.
"Ladies, our carriage waits!"

More black and pink! Yay! I very much like the embroidery on her skirt.

I am so glad you like the colors and embroidery!
Today is Cinderella's Father, for all three balls.
We based him on...guess! Oh, that's right, you guys like to guess and then find out by reading the answer right here. Ok, it's Kenneth Branagh! Do you guys like the irony?
"Goodnight, Father."

Thank you so much,
Amy! Silver and purple go good together, don't they?
Today's drop: The Baker dressed for the woods!
I think Marcelo drew him even cuter here! He comes complete with a satchel for magic beans and the magic ingredients.
"Into the woods to lift the spell!"

Silver and purple do apparently go well together!
For the Baker's coat, it has a tiny cape part up too with flaps in the front. I don't know anything about clothing! What is that part?

Haha, you know
Amy, I guess those could be his lapels, but some of this stuff I just make up 'cause I think it looks cool, haha!
Next drop is another location: Cinderella's Mother's grave at the hazel tree.
Marcelo emulated Eyvind Earle for the tree!
"Cinderella had planted a branch at the grave of her mother..."

Do you plan to show the spirit of Cinderella’s mother giving her the golden dress? Love all the designs so far!

That's ok! I assumed it was all historical, but making it your own is what art is about! Very nice looking tree!

Thank you for your nice comments,
Brelly and
Amy! Today's drop actually will show Cinderella's Mother, but the silver and gold dress for Cinderella will unfortunately not be shown till many drops later, at the part where she is running from the Prince and the ball!
So, today's drop: Cinderella's Mother!
She is based on Michelle Williams!
"Are you certain what you wish is what you want?"

Lovely!
Question for you: usually in other productions of ITW, Cinderella’s Mother wears a much simpler dress (unless she is costumed like a tree which I’ve seen done online). Your version of this character actually reminds me more of fairy godmothers in other adaptations of Cinderella— like HBC in Branagh’s version. I am wondering if that was a deliberate choice, because there is no actual fairy godmother in the Grimm version, and because Cindy’s mother fills that function in the story, or just a coincidence?
I just noticed the colors mimic Cinderella’s mother’s gown in Disney’s version— I am guessing that is an homage, too?
Duster, if you and Marce82 ever find time for it, I’d be very interested in a similar thread about Cinderella! Maybe you two could design R&H’s version, or maybe an imaginary Broadway adaptation of Disney’s animated movie? Or maybe your own adaptation of the fairy tale? Would love to see what the ultimate Cinderella fan’s ultimate Cinderella adaptation would look like!

Thank you so much,
Amy and
Brelly!
Amy, so glad you like this dress that much! I wanted to put frilly lace on the overskirt, and may go back and change that someday since I realized how to do it recently, but until then, thank you, I really do like it, too!
Brelly, I love all these questions! First one, yes, when making this design, I wanted Cinderella's Mother to remind us of the Perrault fairy godmother, and the HBC one has an 18th century dress, so I was thinking of that while making it. Since the Grimm's Red Riding Hood is actually Little Red Cap, but ITW uses the hood, and the Grimm's Sleeping Beauty is Briar Rose, but ITW calls her Sleeping Beauty, I figured I can cross fairy tales like they did. I was also indeed thinking of the 1950 Disney Cinderella's mother's and mice dress for the design with the pink bows and ribbons.
Your next question - hehe, my autism spectrum disorder has made Cinderella my biggest obsession for my life. So, I have designed costumes and hair for aaaaalll the things you wondered if I would design for! Unfortunately, I would like to keep a lot of those designs private in case I ever got to make them for real. And I think I owe you more explanation. I am indeed making my own "ultimate" Cinderella project. It will be a graphic novel with music. I don't know if the songs would be downloads or if it will come with a CD like those Disney Read-Alongs, but something like that. It will be the original Perrault fairy tale, but with a few touches of my own to make it unique. The designs will be set in the 17th century since there are clues in the original text that make it sound like it was set there. In all honesty, a true ultimate Cinderella would be taking the best stuff from the best versions, but alas I can't do that due to copyright. I think I came up with a good version myself, though. If it makes enough money, I wanna use some of that money to fund a movie version of R+H's Cinderella or a Broadway version of Disney's or something. I even wonder about getting Alan Menken or Pasek & Paul to flesh out my songs into a whole score to do my version as a movie. So, I gotta keep art for these projects under wraps.
But, but, as my graphic novel gets closer to being published, I will preview some stuff here, because there will be less threat of it getting stolen by randos and used in other people's stuff.
By the way, The Little Mermaid is your favorite story, right
Brelly? I mean, it's your favorite movie after Mary Poppins. My imagination is blocked from under the sea stuff. I love The Little Mermaid and watching or looking at good versions of it, but I could never design my own version. But I may do DIsney TLM stuff. I want to make at least one TLM poster in a collection of princess posters, which could be the next stuff I start posting after this ITW project is done. But as you probably know, Cinderella is just what I'm hyper-focused on. Thanks for your interest, really!
Today's drop: The Mysterious Man!
He is dual played by our Narrator, so it's Dick Van Dyke again! I found a painting of a man in a 1600s coat and hat I used as reference (I can't search for it now, but if you wanna see it, just ask, maybe this weekend!) but putting slashes to be bread scoresin his sleeves makes him look 1500s! Oh well! He is an old, old man and this is imaginary production of mine does have some mixing of different eras!
"When first I appear, I seem mysterious..."

Today's drop: The Wolf!
I will not say who he is based on, but it is the same actor who will be Cinderella's Prince. Marcelo designed the mask, I came up with the fur tied back in a ponytail. Of course the fairy tale's color of red is used as warning of blood and danger.
"Hello, little girl!"

I love Dick Van Dyke; his costume reminds me of a dwarf (in a positive way)! The Wolf reminds me of a less-hairy Gaston! I like the red, with the coat and boots. Are those antlers embroidered on his coat?

Duster, thank you for explaining your choices! You two are clearly putting a lot of care and thought into this project. And of course, it makes a lot of sense to keep your own designs for your ultimate Cinderella private until you can publish your version. I can’t wait to see those one day!
Disney’s TLM is my favorite animated movie, but I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite story. My favorite fairy tale is The Wild Swans by Hans Christian Andersen.
The Wolf looks very cool! He reminds me of Gaston, so I’m going to guess he is played by Luke Evans!

Thanks for the comments, guys! Haha, I see the dwarf thing,
Amy! And I see the antler thing, too. Alas, I did not intend them to be antlers but tree branches! I do see the Gaston thing, too.
Brelly, thanks for understanding! I also can't wait for you and others interested to see my ultimate Cindy designs! I should read the Wild Swans online while I'm at work if I can! And like I told
Amy, yeah, now I see the Gaston resemblance, and also, that is a good guess! Unfortunately you will not know if you are right or not till 9 drops later! I will try to post every day again, though I undoubtedly will miss a day here and there.
The next drop is: Rapunzel's tower!
Kept the blue theme in the roof, added a battlement for Rapunzel to be outside of the tower on, and created gargoyles to scare away potential tower-climbers!
"...shut her in a doorless tower deep within the forest."

I’ve never seen anyone add gargoyles to Rapunzel’s tower— clever choice!

Thank you,
Brelly!
Next drop: Rapunzel herself!
She is based on Daryl Hannah of
Splash! fame. Since the character is named for lettuce with bluish purple flowers, I used such flowers in her design. I thought of flowers in her hair before
Tangled revealed any pictures with such an idea lol.
"Rapunzel, let down your hair to me."

I love the gargoyles (does she befriend them though?!). She is absolutely beautiful!!!! I love the purple with the light blue.
