I started a a new thread about this in the Off Topic section but thought it might be of interest to this thread as well.

Apple's Press Release : The catalog of Walt Disney Records, including soundtracks from Disney’s classic animated films and Disney/Pixar’s computer-animated films, is now available exclusively on the iTunes Music Store.

However, it looks like Disney has chosen not to release everything. "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" and others are notably missing.

30 second previews are available for all the songs on the iTunes Music Store. In order to listen or purchase music though, you will need to download iTunes if you do not have it already.

BTW, using the iTunes Link Maker you can create links that will go directly to specific songs or albums.

Well, I've been busy, so sorry for the late response. I've spent considerable time on this list, and already I can see things I would like to change. I think it's impossible to come up with a definite list, but here's a snapshot of my thinking (from about 20 mins ago). In general (for all my musical tastes, Disney and non-Disney) I rate lyrics above the music. But there are exceptions.

1. "Stories" (Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas)
Excellent music, excellent lyrics and a stunning performance. This is Disney's best vocal performance ever. Well done Paige O'Hara!

2. "Seize the Day" (Newsies)
I love this song. Quick, energetic and, once again, good lyrics. It was hearing this song that made me want to see Newsies in the first place.

3. "I'll Make a Man Out of You" (Mulan)
Who would have thought? Little Donnie Osmond singing about prepearing for war?

4. "Be Prepared" (The Lion King)
Witty and playful lyrics, but it's Iron's performance that makes this one of my favourites.

5. "I Won't Say (I'm in Love)" (Hercules)
Like all of Hercules, a modern song in classical times. Who could ask for more?

6. "A Star is Born" (Hercules)
I like this because it's just so darn cheerful!

7. "Portobello Road" (Bedknobs and Broomsticks)
Not the best song from Bedknobs and Broomsticks, but full of playful lyrics.

8. "Son of Man" (Tarzan)
I actually prefer the "demo" version from the Tarzan CE DVD, but this is still a fine song.

9. "After Today" (A Goofy Movie)
Captures the mood of the other students and Max perfectly.

10. "I'm Still Here" (Treasure Planet)
I don't know if I really should be voting for this, it's not a typical Disney song.

11. "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" (The Lion King)
The first of many Lion King songs.

12. "The Bells Of Notre Dame" (The Hunchback Of Notre Dame)
A perfect narrative for the stunning prologue.

13. "Colors of the Wind" (Pocahontas)
One of the trailers for this film was just this song. You can see (or should I say hear) why.

14. "Under the Sea" (The Little Mermaid)
More playful lyrics to a cheerful melody.

15. "Belle" (Beauty and the Beast)
When you think about it, this is nothing more than necessary exposition at the start of a film. But it's so skillfully written nobody notices.

16. "Circle of Life" (The Lion King)
Sets the musical and thematic motif of the film from the start.

17. "Just Around the Riverbend" (Pocahontas)
Another stunning vocal performance.

18. "Kiss the Girl" (The Little Mermaid)

19. "I Just Can't Wait To Be King" (The Lion King)
A song full of youth and energy.

20. "What's This?" (The Nightmare Before Christmas)
Danny Elfman. Great music. Better lyrics. Fun.

21. "Hakuna Matata" (The Lion King)
Nobody should have any worries when listening to this!

22. "Heaven's Light/Hellfire" (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)
Forget Heaven's Light, it's a typical Disney song. But Hellfire is anything but. I urge everyone to actually listen to the lyrics.

23. "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride" (Lilo & Stitch)
24. "He Mele No Lilo" (Lilo & Stitch)
I've put these together because they are so similar. Perhaps the most relaxing of Disney songs.

25. "Hi-Diddle-Dee-Dee" (Pinocchio)
One of the few 'early' songs I care much for. Unlike some others, this wouldn't seem out of place in a modern film.

26. "On the Open Road" (A Goofy Movie)
Come on, this song must make anyone who listens to it to smile!

27. "One Jump Ahead" (Aladdin)
This song has something of an edge to it. To me its the most stand out song in Aladdin.

28. "Out There" (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)
This is a song that grows on you. And like all the best songs, once it's grown on you, you can't forget it.

29. "Painting the Roses Red" (Alice in Wonderland)
I just like the melody to this.

30. "God Help the Outcasts" (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)
Again, a song that grows on you. Having the Hunchback soundtrack has certainly bumped this (and other Hunchback songs) up my list.

Some are just gorgeous beautiful songs, some evoke special memories relating to seeing them with my kids or specific scenes in the movies, some are just plain snappy and toe tappy. Some have captured the exact same emotions that I was feelig around the times that the movies came out.

As a lover of music, everything from the Beatles, Elvis and Bruce Springsteen to Sinatra, Chris Issak and Harry Connick Jnr these are the songs that are special to me.
