Sorry for my over-fiveness...I didn't realize that the thread was "5 Coolest"...my bad.

For me it'd be, in no particular order:

1) Pee-wee's Playhouse
2) Disney (Disney Channel, Epcot, new FYL @ Disneyland, Little Mermaid, etc.)
3) Who Framed Roger Rabbit
4) Super Mario Bros. series
5) Me! (I was born in '85)

The END of Ronald Reagan's presidency - #2. One less Republican in office is always a good thing. Though he was replaced by father of the mess that is George W. Bush... Hmmm... Alright, scratch that. New #2: Spike Lee. His '80s movies were a lot better than The Cosby Show.

My #1 is kind of a toss-up. Madonna is the obvious choice. But Bjork was also making multiple records with her band, The Sugarcubes, back then... And without that, she wouldn't be the gift to music that she is today. But I'll go with Madonna and say that Madonna was probably an influence on Bjork.

Incorrect. The '80s was good. The music was outstanding.

Without the '80s, we wouldn't have Madonna...Not all the music was bad in the '80s...when I was little, I was anti-'80s music, but I've come to enjoy it.

Five Best Things from the 80's:

1) Disney Channel - Not the current one. I mean the GOOD Disney channel, like the Disneyland tv show,animated shorts, and great quality disney movies. Disney also airs holiday specials like "The Disney Channel Christmas" and such.)

2)Video Games - Super Mario Bros. needs no introduction, but it was great back then.

3)Cartoons - Great quality of cartoons with synthesized 80's tune. I go for Heathcliff & The Cadalliac Cats, Smurfs, Care Bears, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Rainbow Bright, Ralph Bakshi's The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse (with crazy animation by John K.), and Disney Afternoon shows (such as Ducktails and Gummy Bears)

4) Music - The best thing that comes to mind was Roy Orbison's Mystery Girl and Black and White Night before he died in 1988. May he rest in peace, legendary one. Also, Duran Duran was awesome and so is Madonna. The other artists, that I not mentioned, were great too.

5) Toys - Great, fun, and retrospective toys. I remember having a Rainbow Bright doll, Teddy Ruxpin doll, Barbie dolls, Care Bear dolls, and My Little Pony toys. Man, that was fun.

I was born in '87. Booyah for me.

1. Ronald Reagan: Without a doubt, the greatest president of the 20th century. Ended communism, lowered taxes, rebuilt the military after the debacle of the Carter administration, helped developed technology for a better future, great sense of humor, referenced some of the greatest movies ever made and was a close friend of Walt and did several favors for him and the company. The world was in a much better place with him as president.

2. Indiana Jones: "If adventure has a name, it must be Indiana Jones." Raiders of the Lost Ark is my favorite movie of all time(Star Wars is a close 2nd though) and The Last Crucade is really good too. Which led to lots of great merchandise, t.v. shows, theme park attractions and video games. Here's hoping the 4th one turns out great

3. Disney Theme Parks: Huge decade for Disney's theme parks with the birth of Epcot(or EPCOT Center just for Escapay) and Disney-MGM-Studios, which despite huge need of upgrades, are still the best parks at WDW. The 80's also brought us two of the finest Disney theme park attractions ever built: Star Tours and Splash Mountain. And the refurbishment of many attractions(most specifically Fantasyland) to the versions we're familiar with today.

4. Who Framed Roger Rabbit: Forget that mermaid who fell in love with someone she never even met, Roger Rabbit is far more fun and among the greatest movies ever made, even to this day and is certainly the highlight "Disney" movie for me of the 80's. It even helped fueled the success of "The Fab Four", and animation in general at a time when animation was considered just a "kid's thing".

5. Back to the Future: Is there someone on this planet who really doesn't love this movie? Part III is very good too, but Part II was uninspired. But still, great trilogy that I also have a personal history with it.

i just remembered one: MY SISTER was born in 1982 . have we already had one for the 50's, 60's, and 70's?

5.The clothes. Call me crazy but I wish I were 20 in the 80'S and not now that everyone seems boring to me.

Clinton was a superior President and you know it. Stop playing. This isn't 5 Worst Things About the '80s.

1: Betty Boo (and her retro 60's sci-fi/adventure/comic book stylings)
2: Grange Hill (best in the 80's. Who can forget Zammo's decent into drug addiction? Which led to the "Just Say No!" single from the cast!)
3: Manic Miner/Jet Set Willy (ZX Spectrum classics. Did Miner Willy ever tidy up his mansion and get to sleep off his hangover?)
4: Burton's Fish 'n' Chips Snacks (10p from the school tuck shop)
5: Bubble Bobble (Bubble Blowing Dinosaur Arcade coin-op. Why can't modern games be as simple and fun?)

The music was so great it deserves its own post. But it's too hard to pick 5 best / coolest songs.
