I breathed a sigh of relief when ELIO made the cut, when I knew it would have some tether to the discussion, when I knew it wouldn't be Good Dinosaured or Lightyeared.
I was also satisfied that Zootopia 2 would make the cut. I was less nervous about that, but I always felt there was a chance The Academy would reject it because it was "too popular" or something.

The Animated Feature category swinging so aggressively between "We pride ourselves on our distinguished palette and only permit the most refined of cinematic works to be welcomed in these sacred halls" to "We iz the kool kidzz, we so hep to the jive lolz" must be studied.

Good for KPDH, it's probably most deserving. But I wouldn't have been mad if Zootopia 2 somehow got it.

Finally saw KPOP Demon Hunters.
It was fine, I guess.
I absolutely understand where it found its widespread appeal. And I guess I'm happy that it's letting KPOP fans have their moment. They're just gonna have to have that party without me.
It just kind of felt like a Frankenstein splicing of "Turning Red" and "Frozen," both of which I liked much better. The humor was a little off-putting, and the messaging felt a little too on-the-nose, even calculated.
I was surprised that I liked "Golden," though. But I would have easily given my vote to either of the new songs for "Wicked." (Why was that movie shut out again? Something about the pacing, spectacle over story, or just being too base and popularist? Know what--we don't even need to get into that right now ...)
Haven't seen "Arco" or "Little Amelie" yet, but right now I still would have given ELIO my vote.
