They started to have six last year, right? Yeah, they already had more nominees than most awards ceremonies, at least in the acting categories, since they have them divided into drama and comedy; they didn't need to add more slots as well. In more than one category there's some nominee that doesn't seem totally worthy of a nomination. Like Moana 2 in the animation one, for example. I didn't expect it would get in, although I shouldn't have been surprised since they nominated Wish last year. I don't think this will happen at the Oscars, though, since there's one less slot there and they tend to nominate movies with better reviews.

I am fond of Lilo and Stitch, but Chris Sanders' DreamWorks films just don't do anything for me. Neither The Wild Robot nor How to Train Your Dragon and definitely not The Croods.
Apparently, The Wild Robot is tied with Beauty and the Beast as the second most-nominated animated film in the history of the Golden Globes. Though, that's in part thanks to the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category, which was introduced last year.

I haven't seen the film yet, so I can't comment on its quality, but I'm not as big a fan of Chris Sanders as most people either. I do like Lilo & Stitch and How to Train Your Dragon (the first one, which is the only one he directed), but they're not among my favorite films from Disney and Dreamworks, respectively. I've looked it up and all the animated movies he's directed have been nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars, so The Wild Robot would be his fourth nomination. That might help him win too, because he feels overdue for the award by now.

Good for him, but I know that I won't be happy about it. Although I know that there are big chances he will because most of the times they go with mainstream movies (unless the movie was made by a known director like Guillermo del Toro or Hayao Miyazaki) so it's basically either The Wild Robot or Inside Out 2.

Musker and Clements were also due to win and they never did.

Yeah, it's a shame the best animated feature category didn't exist back when The Little Mermaid or Aladdin were released. Then, they most likely would've won. The Annie Awards already started awarding animated films in 1992, but the Oscars didn't do it until a decade later.

Personally, right now I'm rooting for Inside Out 2 to win since I really liked it. I thought it was almost as good as the first one. But there are many contenders I still haven't seen, so I might end up liking some other film more.

How Many Votes Will It Take to Get an Oscar Nomination in 2025?
https://www.thewrap.com/how-many-votes- ... tion-2025/
Best Animated Feature

The Short Films and Feature Animation Branch was split this year, with 677 voters in the new Animation Branch and another 202 in the Short Films Branch. Normally, the 677 members that would mean that 113 votes would secure a nomination – but voting in this category is open not only to all members of the branch, but to all Academy members outside the branch who volunteer to take part in the voting. Prospective voters were divided into four groups, and each group was required to see an assigned group of seven or eight films out of the 31 that qualified. The number required to land a nomination depends entirely on how many members participated in that process.

I wonder why the animation category is the only one with five nominees instead of six. Although, I've looked it up and some years they have five nominees in the category and others they have five, so I guess they must have some rule similar to the Academy one that limits the number of slots.

It's likely the same films will be nominated at the Oscars. Flow continues to do very well. I wonder if it could get the international film nomination at the Oscars as well after all.
