Weird. I don't think this means she's part of the official line-up though. If that were the case she'd be included on the Disney Princess website and featured on merchandise together with the other princesses.

Agreed. Those videos mostly air on Disney Junior anyway which is where they broadcast Elena of Avalor so it makes sense that they would add her to those videos especially to represent more diversity.

Moana is included on a panel about Disney princesses at this year's D23 Expo. I wonder if this means she'll joining the line-up in the future.
Walt Disney Animation Studios invites you to "The Power of the Princess", featuring Jodi Benson (Ariel), Ming-Na Wen (Mulan), Anika Noni Rose (Tiana), and Auli‘i Cravalho (Moana)—the talented actresses who brought these iconic characters to life—as they share stories of making their films and the impact of their characters on people around the world. Hosted by Walt Disney Animation Studios animators Amy Smeed and Kira Lehtomaki.

I always thought it was likely she'd be inducted. I never thought she or the movie would be as big as Elsa and Anna/Frozen, so she'll have to thrive off the line like the others.

And who wants to bet she has to stand in the back in the group photos next to the other 'ethnic princesses'? So empowering.

I think it's also telling that in the infamous "Princess scene" in Wreck-It Ralph 2 that Elsa, Anna, and Moana are all included as part of the throng of princesses.

(Notably, Elena of Avalor is not . . . sorry Craig Gerber)

Of course only the popular princesses will be included. Nobody cares about some tv mutt princess that misrepresents the entire latino community and then wants to be called "progressive" for its inaccuracies.

Disney released a Disney Princess TV spot that focused on Elena of Avalor. This franchise is a mess.

This is just weird. I mean, I can see why they're adding her. But, why not add a real princess to these promos like I don't know.................Moana, whom Disney has confirmed she is one in the WIR 2 scene

Yesterday she joins the line and today she gets a Funko Pop figure to coincide with the other new princess pops. The scepter pop almost makes her look Sailor Moon-esque.

I don't really care if she joins or not? The Disney Princess line is already on its way to capsizing with so many characters after Tiana, Merida, Rapunzel, Anna & Elsa, and Moana all in such a short span (and I doubt it's going to stop there). Not that I'm complaining about princess characters being made, just that they can't all be added to the line at this point. I still think the best idea would've been to keep it to hand-drawn characters only to avoid having to add every new princess they come out with--considering hand-drawn's dead and all.

I can understand them adding Tiana and Rapunzel, for example, considering one's the first black princess and the other is a classic fairytale character name. But there was no need to throw in Merida and Moana. Elsa would be too popular to disclude (once solo Frozen merch cools off in sales).

OMG

However, looking beyond this issue, at least Elena would've been a better fit for the franchise than Sofia, since Elena is after all an attractive and adult Princess that could've blended well among her peers. More than Sofia, Merida and Vanellope. I know I'm repeating myself, but since this line-up has been so prominent (regardless of the various criticisms around it), I think they could've included Moana and the sisters of Frozen, since they were most likely were intended to be incorporated in the lineup from the get-go. Why not completing the line-up when they have the chance to do it?

Nope, we all love her at my house. The show is far from perfect and certainly some of the criticism as to cultural mash ups is warranted, but I find the stories to be entertaining/engaging. I think the voice work has been pretty solid and the music is catchy.

My only beef with the series is the quality of animation. I think the character designs are decent but it's clear that the budget for animation is much lower than it is for a feature. When people are standing still it's generally fine, but too much movement and hair looks really wooden and arms start to mimic the "rubber hose arms" in Flowers and Trees

^to me the cultural mashup doesn't bother me all that much, b/c Ive gotten used to Disney doing things this way with their animated films. The European and non-European cultures in Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, Tangled, Frozen and Moana are pretty mixed up as well.

yes I do agree the CGI can often be pretty cringey to look at. Really wish the show had been done in a style similar to the Tangled tv series.

Yup, the Expo announced it, as well as Rich Moore confirming it (at 1:30):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktRc28Oy7nQ

And with that Princess scene and Vanellope embracing her princess side AND the role as a princess (Actual quote: "You guys are cool! I love you guys! I thought you were models of perfection, but no! You guys are flawed"), you can bet your soul that she is 100% joining the lineup. And God bless Disney Consumer Products for having a field day now and next year with the merch they'll have with Vanellope (and the princess together)

BTW: You can read the scene here by me:
