He bulks up for Marvel movies, normally he's just toned.

Hemsworth doesn't really look like any of the Disney princes either, but I can't imagine anyone else making this type of movie work, tbh.

And we have Hemsworth confirmed

Still would like clarification on what genre we're aiming for. I imagine comedy, but ... surely even they see writing on the wall. There's just nothing more to explore with fairy-tale parody, if there ever was to begin with.

Obviously comedy. I doubt this movie will be a sincere story like Enchanted. I don't think the intention was looking for new territory to explore to begin with... Probably just to make a fun, little movie.

Are audiences still even going for that though? There was an element of "finally! someone said it!" with Shrek, Enchanted, or even Frozen, back when it was easier for some people to think this was some groundbreaking approach to fairy-taleism, but I was also getting the idea that as this crowd caught onto the fact that studios like Disney were getting savvy at working that into their business model, it was losing its edginess. Or maybe I was just hoping for too much ...

I don't think those three films are that close to be grouped together neatly. Enchanted was more playful and loving in its callbacks and lampooning whereas Shrek was really for people who were tired of musicals back in the '00s. And then Frozen, which really only pokes fun at the one-day romance timespan of old films, it's not satirical exactly.

I would say this film will end up more in the realm of Shrek and even Barbie than Enchanted or Frozen.

I think Disney is just trying to capitalize on Barbie's popularity by making their own Ken movie in hopes of similar results.

They're not exactly alike, no, but they have that shared element of lampshading classical Disney. The subversive elements in Frozen were among the most discussed elements of the film when it came out, particularly from those outside the regular Disney circle. It's really only inner circles of Disney fandom that would care to parse out the thematic nuances that separate them.

The Barbie connection I expect will pan out, though.

TBH, I think it's exactly backwards. I doubt the average person noticed those at all outside of laughing at the Kristoff joke during the wolf scene--because it was a funny joke referencing things people know about Disney films (the love at first sight romances). I feel like it would only be a particular type of triggered Disney fans that would be hyper-aware of it enough to think of the entire film itself as some kind of satire. The average person wouldn't think of the film in those terms in the slightest.

I didn't say Frozen was "satire," just that it was subversive, or that it at least broadcasted itself as being such, and I definitely remember lots of people taking note of the film because of this. These kinds of memes were floating around a lot back then, as one example.

Yeah I won't be watching this movie. This just sounds like Barbie in reverse.

You can easily tell this movie exists based in Ken popularity

The movie will tackle the same plot point of disney princes being pointless and nobody caring about them

A mix of Enchanted and Barbie basically

And I'm happy about it, sounds like a funny movie

Sounds like a movie that has been done a million times before. Hard pass
Enchanted was so ahead of its time

I don't care if a plot point has been made 500 times, we get great movies every year that have extremly repeated plots

For example Barbie isn't original either, it's based in many other movies with similar plots, still a great movie

I love Enchanted so much, and I love Chip And Dale (2022), why I wouldn't want more of the same
