I'm not angry, but I suppose I am negative. I actually thought I was being positive this time, since people always put down the non-Walt films. I guess my Frozen grace period is over.

I didn't think you were being rude. But then you said "I don't really care." So... And what Frozen grace period? Like you liked the movie and that was the one un-negative thing in a long while? Frozen to me is one of the greatest things Disney's done in a long while.

Which reminds me that I find "Let It Go" to be one of the best animated scenes of all time, along with "Beauty and the Beast", as in the ballroom dance, and the Beast's transformation. All three of these combine deep emotion with spectacular animation. Am I the only one so impressed that they could hand-animate a girl and a monster dancing seen from above, then at eye level, then below (where Belle's dress moves past the screen)? That scene is just amazing!

I agree with lots on here already state but to add one that I don't think anyone said I choose the stampede in lion king. Not just for the wildebeest effect but the backgrounds, the animation, colours, lighting, effects, some shots of perspective (mufasas huge claw and tiny Body as he slips down the cliff), editing (as the branch breaks- a flash shot of simba as close up eyes in terror before cutting to him flying through the air), the emotion the animation conveys, the amazing tracking shot of zazu flying down into the gorge, plus it's harder to animate animals than it is humans.

I doubt that. I know that at least in Sleeping Beauty, they worked to make every frame perfect. If you find one to contradict that then I'll admit I'm wrong, but I feel pretty sure on that one.

I thought the Disney artists always said animals were easier to animate than humans. That's why there's so many animals in Disney movies. That's why the original Disney creations were animals: Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Pluto. The Goddess of Spring was a Disney short to test human animation and Walt Disney felt they didn't do it well enough. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was when they got it right.

…and wasn't the Prince even cut out of most of the story due to the fact that he was just so darn difficult to draw? I think I read somewhere Walt still wasn't happy with what was actually in the finished movie in regards to his characters animation.

For me, the greatest scene in a Disney movie is Snow White's Flight through the Forest. Everything about it is perfect, the music, the animation, the lighting, the effects. Truly one of the greatest animated scenes of all time.

@Disney duster. I remember an animator saying no one wanted to work on the lion king because animals had four legs and were harder to animate an people favoured working on Pocahontas more without realising TLK would be the smash hit and Pocahontas not so much. Something to that effect.
Perhaps I shouldn't have said harder to animate but rather more labour-some or something.

TO DisneyDuster: I believe you meant the short "Goddess of Spring". "Rite of Spring" is a segment in Fantasia with evolution and dinosaurs.

As an animator myself, and having gone thru animation school, I will say most animators find it easier to animated animals...in a cartoony way (mickey, pluto, etc). For TLK, they had to learn to make them anatomically correct and convincing. We see humans every day, animals they had to LEARN to draw properly. Plus, they had the challenge of not having props (the story about animators not wanting to work on TLK was more about people's perception of it, not with having to draw animals).

Humans ARE more difficult to draw/animate convincingly, simply because WE are humans and can tell when something is off, or comes across as stilted.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Lion King/Pocahontas debacle with (some of the) animators was more to do with both films being in production at the same time and the studio heads treating Pocahontas like they found the holy grail and so everybody wanted to be on that project, while The Lion King was considered film B, that was just not going to be as successful.

Funny how the public reaction reversed things for them.

Actually, I think I remember it was the animation, not the drawing, of the prince that was so hard, because girls were flowy and easier to animate like that, but men had to be manly and trying to animated that came off as stiff.

Cordynharm, maybe they did say animals were harder to animate, but I only remember just them mentioning they wanted to be on Pocahontas because they thought it was the big, Oscar worthy project.

What's the right way to write a title of a short? Italics or quotation marks?

Duster, I can't PM you, but thought I would grab your attention here as you were the last poster; there is an opportunity for me to see Cinderella (unrestored) at my local independent cinema … do you think I should go and see it? Will it be worth it you think, in the unrestored format with the 'hissy' soundtrack?

Oh yea, I think it's definately worth it! I know if it were me, I wouldn't hesitate to see it. If it it's in your top faves, go ahead and see it! I wish I could be there!

It's nigh impossible to divide the quality of the animation alone from the rest of the visual aesthetic - layout, background, design, et al - and perhaps just as difficult to divide it from its emotional and narrative content too. Thus, from an objective perspective, the greatest animated scene of all time is indeed probably "Once Upon A Dream" in Sleeping Beauty, but as visually impressive as that scene is, I wouldn't even say that it's the finest sequence in that specific feature. Both Aurora's Birthday and the spinning-wheel are greater, and possibly the climax too.

I think you'd be hard-pressed to top "Part of That World" or "Night on Bald Mountain." Other prime contenders would be the Monstro scene in Pinocchio or, depending on what can qualify as a 'scene', that entire opening sequence in Geppetto's workshop at the beginning, as well as Snow White's flight through the forest. Cruella's first scene, "Let It Go" in Frozen and virtually all of Bambi also come to mind.

However, personally, I still don't think there's been anything more striking - especially for its age - than the Wicked Queen's transformation.

Maybe Luke can fix it for you to recieve and send pms?), since I don't think you saw what I wrote in the "Universe has stomped on me" thread, I wanted to say to you directly I apologize for ever hurting you or ruining your happiness, with how I down-trod on Disney things you may have liked, including saying all the bad things in The Little Mermaid III were the truth, not just my opinion. I still don't think that movie is very good, lol, but I should have said it all a better way. I'm sorry.

Goodness, is there anything the matter ? You haven't ever truly upset me; I know you are very strident with your opinion, so always just put it down to that, so please don't worry about upsetting me. Is this anything to do with why you haven't been around very much on here?

Anyway, thanks for worrying about me. I have depression is all you need to know about why I've suddenly decided to apologize for my past behavior, but I'm ok. But for the reason why I haven't been around lately, well I think that's just because not enough princess or magical stuff is discussed here lol. That's what I mainly love about Disney.

I´m going to mention the scariest and most incredible evil scenes of Disney that I like.

Whole segment in general:

-Snow White running through the woods.
-Donkey transformation and Monstro in Pinocchio
-Army of the Dead in The Black Cauldron
-Hellfire in Hunchback


As for me, I guess one of my favorite scenes is when Jafar transforms into a genie. The design (making him look like a or the devil), his deep voice, him taking control of the planets... If Jafar could have kept his powers it would have been the end of the world/universe as we know it.
