That poll is so odd. Huge YES for TLM and
Mulan, but huge NO for TLK and
Mary Poppins.

I'm surprised there weren't more yes's for TJB film, considering how good it was. Not surprised most didn't care for
Cinderella and AiW though.

Though I guess it would've been quite tempting for them to do so, alongside with
Tangled. But at least Disney are drawing a clear line with the remakes by not remaking the ones from the new millenium. It would've be remarkable to see live action remakes of
Lilo & Stitch and
The Emperor's New Groove
. And what about
Chicken Little and
Wreck-It-Ralph?

They won't make live-action movie remakes anytime soon, maybe, but they are making cruise line shows, Broadway shows, etc. (Not complaining-- I'd much rather those than the remakes!!)

I hope Hunchback is considered. I'd like it to be a musical with the songs from the film plus the songs from the musical like Made of Stone, but knowing how unpopular Hunchback is I don't see it happening.

I'd love to see this as well. I do think there's a market for this film, but it's just not the typical Disney crowd which is why they're hesitant and also probably why the musical didn't have the Disney label on it. If the upcoming non-Disney live-action Esmeralda film does well, then maybe they'll reconsider. I would love to see some of the musical songs in it. Made of Stone is wonderful and I'd like to see deleted songs like Someday and In a Place of Miracles added back as well.

Aristocats is still a mediocre film without the racism, and frankly I don't think there could any more "scraping at the bottom of the barrel" sense if they remake THAT one.

The problem isn't about
Hunchback's popularity, but rather because of it's content and controversy. It was one of the darkest and most controversial movies from Disney at the time and remaking
Hunchback would mean that the studio would consider to cross that barrier again. So that's the problem with a
Hunchback remake.

There's not too much information about it but if you type in live-action Esmeralda in google, you'll find some more articles. Some of them mistakenly believe it's Disney though.
Considering that Disney was also developing a limited Esmeralda TV series for ABC a few years back, I don't think they are entirely against developing the Hunchback property. They obviously see something worth it there even if they are worried about backlash from soccer moms. Personally, I think the film would have even more meaning in the Trump era since the whole film is really about a man who relentlessly pursues a woman to the death and cannot handle her being in control of her own sexuality.

Cool. Esmeralda was a nice heroine.

I would think Pocahontas would be more controversial if Disney tried making a live-action film based on her. They managed to avoid much flack with Moana and its depiction of Polynesian culture, but it was a largely fictional story with elements of mythology thrown in, so they had a bit more leeway.
With Pocahontas, there will probably be bigger calls to make it historically accurate. And Pocahontas and John Smith's real story is definitely not suitable for the family audience Disney would want to court. "Colors of the Wind" and "Listen To Your Heart" would also look rather out of place in a live-action, more realistic film.

Indeed. Disney burned themselves with Pocahontas, so therefore her movie is one of the last options to receive a live action adaptation.

I will be appalled if
Cruella gets on screens

At least the original Maleficent has the decency to mostly stick with picking on those she knows to understand what she's saying

I'm avoiding
Beauty & The Beast in hope of creating pressure against
Cruella (a big deal for me as my username shows) and I am willing to avoid all further remakes until
Cruella is canned

There is no ethical way to make the story behind a Woman's willingness to kill intellectually disadvantaged Animals for fashion sympathetic
I also object to the
Lion King remake because the story is legally regarded as Disney's and question how good a
Dumbo remake directed by Tim Burton, a live action Tinkerbell film, and a
Winnie the Pooh film centred around and Adult Christopher Robin could be
I enjoyed
The Jungle Book (seen before I learnt about any of the aforementioned plans) and the others mostly seem like they could be good but Disney need to take risks

100% agree. I get that she's a fictional character, but good lord, she doesn't only kill foxes, tigers etc. for fur. She kills DOGS! That alone is extremely uncomfortable and Disney can not justify the reason why she kills dogs. And all above, I don't even like Cruella. Not b/c she kills dogs, but because I find her such a boring character that sits in the sidelines until the climax. Facilier from PATF does this too, but at least he is, in the words of Naveen, "very charismatic."

Well, I mean, they tried to make Maleficent "sympathetic", so it's rather safe to think they'll try to make something similar with Cruella. Though I have no idea how can that work. Did Pongo bit her once and that's why she has a chip on her shoulder?

I mean, you can make enjoyable characters/vilains while still keeping them villainous, but if you're trying to make them an all-around good guy/role model... But eh, I imagine the furshionistas will be happy.
Unless this goes in a totally different manner or keeps Cruella's nastiness...But some people will watch regardless of what Disney shits on screen and puts that turd on a plate.
