I literally do not know how else to put this.

The Blu-Ray looks like someone used a WarpSharp filter and completely failed at it. I'll have to try the iTunes digital copy (it's the same as what's now in the iTunes store - they replaced the Academy version with the cropped widescreen...) and see if it's also ruined, or if it looks like the old version.

I think we need to complain to Disney that there's an 'incorrect transfer' on this disc. There's no other way to put it.

This is unacceptable.

Wow. Im baffled. This might be their worst restoration yet. Its like the whole movie has been painted over, and blurred. Like they applied some photoshop filter to the entire movie.

To be honest, I wasnt planning on getting this. i love the movie, but I am very satisfied with my Gold Collection dvd. WAY more accurate than this blurry transfer! This movie was done with the xerox process! Its supposed to be sketchy and have SHARP black lines!
Sigh...

Yup... possibly worse than the Cinderella restoration.

I went to the DigitalCopy site where the the little slip said to go and put in the code and I could see that it's compatible with Vudu and Amazon Instant Video. Does anyone know if it's possible to do it from iTunes in the Explore your options? If so how?
According to the discussion at Blu-ray.com, the new digital copies of both Robin Hood and The Sword In The Stone aren't being supported by iTunes unfortunately. The only providers for these releases are Vudu and Amazon Instant Video. Some members have contacted Disney and the DigitalCopyPlus Support and have been told that from now on, providers will vary on each release.

This is really frustrating especially as iTunes is the biggest digital distributor out there and also because of Disney's relationship with Apple over the years.

Especially frustrating for people outside the US who import these releases, I have no idea if you can use Vudu or Amazon Instant Video from abroad.

People have been writing/calling Disney to voice their complaints, I'll do the same. Hope they'll listen if enough people complain...

The funny thing is that's literally what Lowry Digital has done to the other Disney movies. They paint over them to make them look newer than they should, e.g. why Cinderella sucks so much. But they did it for Sleeping Beauty too, possibly among others, and most people don't seem to mind :|

I'm curious what studio did the "restoration" of this one, it honestly wouldn't surprise me if it was Lowry.

The screenshots I've seen look terrible even for Lowry. Like some no-talent hack just fed the video through a DVNR filter with the settings cranked until it came out looking like mud.

Not even THEY would screw up that much.

I sent them a complaint email. I told them I either want my money back or a replacement disc with a new restoration. Maybe this will help if enough people do it.

As did. Also pointed out to have the new transfer in original full screen.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh blu-ray has more information on the sides of the image with only a little information on the top and bottom of the frame cropped occasionally. This is compared to both the last dvd edition as well as the laserdiscs of the original separate shorts.

Plus it's a beautiful transfer. :)

Guys...finally something of merchandise from this movie.

Just came from the Disney Store and they have a mug with the design of the original poster.

Yes...it´s the only thing but that´s better than nothing.

I was just at our nearest Disney Store, and couldn't find one of those mugs. Ah well. :/

Maybe they didn´t have them at the moment and would put them for sale later on.

So maybe you should check later or call another store to see if they have it.

What do you guys think are the chances the European Blu-ray release of SitS may feature a corrected transfer?

I'm not sure what to think of on this transfer, partially because we nitpick every restoration beyond belief.

I had a bit of time earlier so I watched the flying scene on the Blu ray and then the 45th Anniversary DVD.

I couldn't believe the difference! The screenshots posted around do not lie! You do notice the 'clean up' in motion - not just when you hit pause.

It really is a terrible job. It's no longer a Disney classic - it is a Lowry (?) remake!

Matt.

Could you guys please stop blaming Lowry? I know they've gone a little to far with Cinderella, but most of their restorations are damn good, ALTHOUGH they use DNR. This is not a professional restoration of an external company, if you ask me it's not even a restoration at all.

That's the result you get, when you let the intern take care of it during his lunch break. And even if this is a little far-fetched, it is perfectly clear that there was absolutely no money invested in this "restoration", let alone time. Which means it was done in-house and Disney is the only one to blame for it.
