Best Buy will take your old DVD for a discount? What do they do with it? Put it back on the shelf?

^Assumingly, they end up recycling it.

They say I'll get my copy of GMD on Wednesday, which is late, but they also said it would ship soon and it still hasn't shipped out.

Are there any reviews up yet?

Is it even worth the upgrade? There is nothing new on the Blu-ray.

Is the transfer any different? I'm thinking of returning this to be honest.

Those are a few that I've found so far.

I have to admit, I felt a little dirty buying this. This is truly a horrible, horrible release. Nothing's new, except for a slight, slight gain in picture quality. Of course, I knew that was going to be the case before I bought it, so the joke's on me.

For those who care, the blu-ray menu is completely static, just like Home on the Range's. At least Treasure Planet got an animated menu. Surprisingly, Disney pressed a brand new DVD for this combo pack, but the only difference is updated sneak peeks. Everything else remains the same, so don't expect the missing art gallery to be restored. Oh, and the chapters at the "scene selection" menu don't have titles. They're just called "1," "2," "3," etc.

Really, this isn't worth the $20 asking price if you already own the "Mystery in the Mist" DVD. If you don't, then this warrants a purchase. I just got it because I want to support the film in hopes of a better release someday. I just hate that Disney's realized that they don't need to put forth effort to make money. If their sales actually depended (even a little) on demographics other than teenage girls and nostalgic parents, we wouldn't get crap like this.

^ At least they're not charging $29.99 like they are for the cheap AristoCats/Cinderella releases.

I was thinking, just how good are Disney's sales? Whenever I go to a Target, Walmart, Best Buy, or Costco their DVDs/blu-rays just sit there. I'm pretty sure I can still find Bambi if I looked. Maybe that's why they gave up. The general public seems oblivious as to what's even out. I can't count how many times I've told a friend about a new release & their response is "really? I had no idea" or "isn't that already out?".

When they first came out they weren't 29.99 Aristocats was 22.99

I'll order it through Disney Movie Club later this month, when I can get a good discount. It's not worth walking into a store to buy it. The only reason I'll get it through DMC is due to their buy one movie at regular price, get the rest for (Insert Discount Here)

I don't know if this means anything, but Amazon delayed my order to October 24th.

Bought The Great Mouse Detective Blu-ray last night at Best Buy. It was $19.99 and then with a $5 Upgrade and Save coupon after tax it came out to a little over $16.

I watched it last night, and while it didn't knock my socks off, I thought it looked pretty good. I never owned this on VHS or DVD so I can't compare, but I was pleased with the video quality.

Underrated film, I really enjoyed it. Definitely worth my $16.

OK, I got a e-mail from Amazon saying my copy has shipped! Should be here on Monday.

At my Like page of Facebook, I made an exciting announcement of TGMD Blu-ray being released on the 9th. I was off that day, and I decided to shop around to see what I could find:

I went to the Disney Store first. Nothing. No DVD, no commercial on their screen, no merchandise, zip. I went to Best Buy next. They had nothing as well, not even a standee. I finally went to Fry's and they had copies of the movie, but again no big advertisements.

I work in a grocery store and they put up those huge standees for new movies. They had two of them for the Cinderella Diamond Edition. Did they have a standee for TGMD? Nope! When Cinderella came down, they put up Prometheus and E.T. The Extra Terrestrial next.

A review I found online (that I shared at my Like page) was my one beacon of hope in the dark. It was at blogcritics.com. It's a wonderful and positive review; it really made my day the most.

Blu-ray Review: The Great Mouse Detective

I just bought this off amazon for $19.96. I was wondering if there is any screenshots off the Blu-ray so I can compare them to the UK DVD.

I WON IT FOR FREE!! This was so cool! On October 9th, I entered a contest at the San Diego 6 web site to win a copy of TGMD on Blu-ray. A few days later, I got an email saying I won! I had to go down to the station and pick it up in person, but that was fine. I only live twenty miles away. I got down there, signed the paper to confirm I picked up my prize, showed my ID, and walked out the door with my free DVD! It really made my day!

Does any of this actually shock you? These days, it's just simply not something that's done with nearly any catalog title, barring some huge, well-known movie (i.e., Cinderella). It's not like Disney did anything big for "Treasure Planet" or anything.
