Anyway, I'm glad Giselle isn't included, and well I wasn't too happy about Tangled being CG, but it's a good movie...and I'm sure she wont look out of place, since she'll be cartoon animated.
I hope that didn't come across too, "
How dare you?!"

I was just honestly shocked anyone would find one of their characters ugly, especially a protagonist. Animated characters seem almost always aesthetically attractive--more perfect than real people. Even ugly characters are usually ugly in a "pretty" animated way.

hahaa, well I just don't find her pretty. When the first sneak preview came up I thought she looked pretty...but when I saw the movie, I was quite disappointed. With everything in general... though my mom and little brother love the movie, and I do own it.
Well, I do love the colors and the witch doctor. But ehh!

I've also been seeing Tiana EVERYWHERE in the Princess merch. Even if she's not on the actual merchandise (say, a sock, or a bag), they put her on the little cardboard tag with the logo. I'm guessing that Rapunzel isn't featured on the Princess site because Disney was hiding the fact that her movie was a Princess story. I'm sure that'll change soon. I'm with those who are petitioning for Giselle to be included again!

Or else those damn kids will forget all about her.

If you can't be bothered with posting evidence or an article of what you're asserting, then I think it's going to be a pretty pointless discussion. Princess and the Frog merchandise flew off the shelves last year when it was still promoted independently for the film, once the movie reached home video Tiana was stuffed in the "Princess line" with the rest of the old broads. It would be far more commendable for a female character dubbed as "Princess" (in all of its upper-case "P" glory) to not be part of that merchandise-deal with the devil. Talk about a character sell-out.
"Disney = racist" discussions are getting really annoying though, which -let's not kid ourselves- is really what this thread was about. Stirring the pot, if you will.

I'm just pointing out your code language. I know I shouldn't feed the troll, but I can't let such things pass. Derogatory comments based on race have no place at this forum.

Cut the crap, dude.
Africans come from Africa and they've always lived in tribes, before the European colonization started, and until now thousands still live in tribes. It's part of their culture and their way of life. So don't sit there and call me racist for something that is true.

African-Americans don't live in tribes, so why would Disney make their first black princess a tribal (= 'savage') person? Why not somebody with whom black people could identify, like Tiana? Making the princess an African-American "destroyed" the fairy tale; those are
your words, not mine.

Oh, savage? Is that what you call Africans? Savage people? Like I said. Stop switching my words for your own convenience.

Ok, even though a Disney "Storm" would look very similar to Princess Kida, I can't help but love the idea of a Storm origin movie done with hand drawn Disney animation.

Though if they did do that....though if you thought the topics of Is Dinosaur part of the Disney Canon think about all the Storming topics that would Storm up asking if Storm was Disney's 55th DAC....

No, it's how 'tribal people' are perceived and that's why you said the black princess should've been a tribal person. Just like Obama, the "loud tribesman", right?

Margos wrote:Personally, I like the princess line. IDK why, I just think it's kind of cool. For example, 2011 will be my third year in a row using the official Disney Princess wall calender. Here's my complaint, though. It just isn't consistent. So, OK, there are supposedly 10 Disney princess, right? Well, I never, ever see Pocahontas or Mulan on the merch. And here's the weird part: Jasmine used to be on everything. Now, I see items that look exactly the same as the old ones, but with Jasmine replaced by Tiana. Now, I love both of them, but it still annoys me. What, we have one token ethnic princess, we don't need another one? If we have two, it's OK, get rid of one to make room for the other? What? OK, so I get that, for example, with a calender, it makes sense to use only 6 of the princesses, so that each can have 2 pages. Alright, I'll buy that (even though I'd rather have 2 get two pages, or better yet, 2 group shots of 5 each, as opposed to this system). Still, if you have to cut somebody for Tiana, why Jasmine? Why not Aurora? She's pretty much useless, anyway...
They never do put Pocahontas or Mulan on merchandise so why do they bother putting them in the princess line at all lol. And I agree I have seen Tiana kind of taking Jasmine's place. When I see merchandise with Snow White, Cinderella. Aurora, Ariel and Belle, Tiana is there instead of Jasmine. Which is weird.....I hope Jasmine doesn't end up in the doghouse with Poca and Mulan. I would also like to seem them merchanidse Esmerelda and Megara and even Alice. But I doubt that'll happen anytime soon.
And I dont think we need to worry about Rapunzel not being merchandised. She is the last of the title princesses and fits very well along with Ariel and Cinderella in the line up.

Well, I think definitively there are 8 Princesses.
Pocahontas is the daughter of an Indian Chief, almost but not quite a Princess.
Mulan was never, ever a Princess - the daughter of a warrior. She didn't even marry a Prince.
Yes, there's Eilonwy and Kida, but their films have always seemed to be distanced from the 'Disney Universe'.

If by 'Disney Universe' you mean: horrible marketing ploy to sell as much crappy merchandize as possible to pre-teen girls, whilst seriously hurting the image of Disney as an entertainment outlet for everybody....
then yes.
And I'm glad Eilonwy and Kida didn't get sucked into this. Their films haven't been associated with this dreck.

So you're calling Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Princess and the Frog and Tangled dreck, yet you're placing The Black Cauldron and Atlantis on a pedestal?
Interesting.
And merchandise isn't spelt with a z.
I think the point is, that if The Black Cauldron and Atlantis had been successful on any kind of level to warrant it, they would have been sucked into the same kind of marketing that you seem to abhor.

No I think from other posts that Goliath has posted, he is saying nothing bad about the Princesses themselves....just the Marketing Ploy of Disney Princess and how they are marketed....
although if they did ad Kida and Eilonwy to the Princess line....it might bring more attention to those two films that Kida and Eliowny are in (Atlantis: The Lost Empire, And The Black Cauldron) if they were added to this Marketing Scheme....in my opinion it's the only way those two films could become more popular to others besides us die-hard Disney Fans..
