I voted for Toy Story 3, second would be The Illusionist but these are actually the only animated movies of the list of nominees I've seen so far, so this doesn't count for much.

I would like it very much if a 'classic' Disney animated movie (in the sense that it's not Disney-Pixar) would win, but since 'Tangled isn't out yet I cannot
say for sure if I will like it. If a Disney animated movie wins, it should be because of its quality, not because it's 'time that Disney wins an Oscar for best animated feature'.

So, the Academy has just announced the eligible films for this year's category for Best Animated Feature:

•“The Dreams of Jinsha”
•“How to Train Your Dragon”
•“Idiots and Angels”
•“The Illusionist”
•“Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole”
•“Megamind”
•“My Dog Tulip”
•“Shrek Forever After”
•“Summer Wars”
•“Tangled”
•“Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue”
•“Toy Story 3”

Unfortunately, there's only going to be three nominees this year. I expect it will likely be Toy Story 3, How to Train Your Dragon and Tangled.

Three nominees? But that's not fair! Last time, there were FIVE nominations!

Yeah, it's a ridiculous rule that says that you can only have five if there are at least 16 eligible animated films and this year, there were apparently only 15.

My bets are on Toy Story, Dragon and Despicable Me.

I think neither Tangled or Despicable Me will be getting a nomination. Obviously Toy Story 3 and How to Train Your Dragon will get a nomination. For a third nominee I could see the Academy going for some Indie flick, like The Illusionist or My Dog Tulip.

Toy Story 3, How to Train Your Dragon and Tangled are my bets. Tangled have not yet been released but has already gotten over 350 000 fans on Facebook and has beaten Megamind (330 000 fans). Despicable Me has "only" 125 000 fans. Toy Story got 9 million Facebook-fans, How to Train Your Dragon "only" 165 000 (US page)/370 000 (UK page).

I think this indicate that Tangled has potential for making it at the box office. And if the movie is as good as the critics have said so far, why would it not be nominated for best animated picture? Because it's a Disney-film (and not a Pixar-film), and Disney "already got their nomination" with Toy Story 3?

Toy Story 3, definitely–I also predict it will win. The Toy Story movies have a Special Achievement Oscar, which is different than actually winning a category; it'll be a nice way to acknowledge the series and what a wonderful movie Toy Story 3 is.

How To Train Your Dragon will be its top competitor–I quite enjoyed it, and it ended up being a surprising hit (at least to me).

The third slot (only three? Goodness!) will probably either be The Illusionist, My Dog Tulip, or Tangled–I'm hoping for Tangled, but since Toy Story 3 is pretty much a given, I think the Academy might want to nominate another studio's work.

Prediction: Toy Story 3, How to Train Your Dragon, The Illusionist.

Tangled, Despicable Me, My Dog Tulip just miss the cut.

I agree as well. You have the Disney film, the Dreamworks film and the deep independent film. All three are covered.

Whereas I too think Tangled will be getting the shaft regardless of how good it is, I'm not about to completely give up. Remember that two years ago both Wall-E and BOLT were nominated (along with Kung Fu Panda).

That is true, though that year there wasn't a strong "prestigious" animated film that critics were going crazy for. "The Illusionist" is getting a lot of positive reception from critics and may be the "it" movie to nominate alongside the mainstream films.

There was actually Waltz with Bashir, which was very much acclaimed and a lot of people thought it would take the third slot. So, I won't be surprised (in fact, I'm fully expecting) if Tangled takes the last spot, especially since it's supposedly incredibly acclaimed and on the same level as The Little Mermaid.

I think Waltz with Bashir was still nominated, though ... as Best Foreign Language Film! Somehow I doubt The Illusionist will make that category.

I bet that Toy Story 3 will win. I think it's pretty overrated, but I enjoyed it, and all of the best picture lists I've read have Toys on their list. I still voted Tangled, considering it IS an truly amazing Disney movie.

Well, having now seen How To Train Your Dragon and Tangled, I can pretty much guarantee that Toy Story 3 will win. I haven’t seen TS3 yet--though I will as soon as it comes on pay-per-view--but I can pretty much predict it’ll be better than those two. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed How To Train Your Dragon, and it’s definitely better than Tangled, but I think it’s a bit too clichéd to win.

Note that the question asks "Who would you LIKE to win this year," not, "Who do you THINK will win this year

Even though TS3 *will* win, I'd like to see Dreamworks win one for a change, and "Dragon" actually goes borderline new territory for a mainstream film.
