Wow, I completely disagree with you jpanimation. I found the series finale to be wonderful and quite emotional (especially the final moments in the church). Of course, I'm still slightly confused about what actually happened (which life really took place). I'm pretty positive that the went to the island, the Oceanic 6 did leave it and returned, but then how did everyone die and somehow go to Eloise Hawking's church in this flash-sideways? I reread the conversation between Jack and Christian and I think I understand what he was saying but I still don't know how the flash-sideways characters still meet up in this place that they chose to meet together and move on. I was hoping that the JKL Aloha to Lost would actually reveal some answers (heck I stayed up until 1:00 and I usually go to bed before 11:00) but, unfortunately, it did not. I was really looking forward to the apparent 3 alternate endings, however, it was just pointless to watch. Some of them were slightly funny, but there really wasn't any point to them and they didn't give any explanation as to what I was hoping for. The sideways world still kinda confuses me. Obviously the dead castaways were there but how could they interact with the characters who were still alive (like Penny, Desmond and Ben)? And how did such characters as Ben and Desmond get off the island and to the flash-sideways world? I’m also really glad that they brought back Vincent, Rose, Bernard, Juliet, Charlie, Daniel, Charlotte, Liam (even though he didn’t say anything; and I wished that they saying “You All Everybody,” but maybe that wouldn’t have been a good song to play accompanied by the piano) and some others that I just don’t remember right now. And the only good thing that I actually did learn and thought was good from JKL is that Nestor does not wear eye liner (that was pretty funny in my opinion). There are still kind of a bunch of unanswered questions and I hope that the Blu-ray/DVD will reveal the answers and hopefully Damon and Carlton will show us everything that us fans have wanted to know for the past 6 seasons. I’m so sad to see the show end but I think I’m glad about how the series ended. It’s very bittersweet and I’m happy that all of the actors found the ending to be an appropriate one.

Yes! SPOILERS!
The flash sideways were in fact flash forwards. Each character, no matter what or when, ended up in the same place-"realm"-after their deaths. That makes complete sense because Alex and Russo and John are there. Ben and Hurley complement each other on their jobs as island protectors, even though they spent their whole lives there, and each character appears as themselves during the most important period of their lives, with the illusion of life-one in which the Island never even existed-around them. The flashes of the island are flashbacks and it's then they realize they're dead. As for Jack's "son", idk whether he was already a dead version of someone else or an illusion altogether-I mean, the way he's absent during Aaron's Birth says something, I guess. It all makes sense.

There was a giant cork in the island
Seriously, the show just got more ridiculous as it went along. I'm not really sure how anyone couldn't understand the ending. It was a cop-out. The writers had no direction when they started this project, they just stacked mystery upon mystery as they went along, and didn't know how to explain it all. They also didn't know how to finish everyone's stories, considering LOST is a character piece, so they have everyone either die at the last minute or fly away so they don't have to show you anything.
Then they can just end it on a cast reunion in purgatory, with lots of sad music and flash backs, to force enough emotions out of fans that they wouldn't question it's stupidity. The only tears I was shedding were at the thought of six wasted years.
