My loving Fiance got me a copy of the book "The Spider-Man Chronicles" with gives details to the making of "Spider-Man 3." In it it talks about how originally it was The Vulture, NOT Venom, who was going to fight with Sandman. They even were talking with Ben Kingsley about playing the role, but cut it out so they could add Venom.
It also talks about how since "Spider-Man 2" didn't make as much money as the first one, they felt the need to make the third one "more fresh and more new" and change the formula a bit, which in part is what lead to Eddie Brock/ Venom being added.
An interesting read, I suggest it to any one who wants to know the truth to why "Spider-Man 3" ended up the way it did, and in part why there will be no 4.

Interesting.
While I'd still rather have a Spider-Man 4 (and 5) with Raimi & Company to redeem themselves for Spider-Man 3, it's nice to know that the reboot will have a nearly-as-talented-as-Tobey actor in the role of Peter Parker.

I'd rather see Spider-Man 3 remade to how it was originally going to be. Thomas Haden Church was great as Sandman and Ben Kingsley would've been amazing as Vulture. The simpler story would've been great.
I'm just disappointed that they're going with a young high school Peter Parker.

Is this guy really,
truly, 100% guaranteed finally the NEW Spiderman?!:

I'm so confuzzled. With all these back-and-forth casting calls, I don't know who I'd like to play the part anymore.

Yes, it must be him as it's now being confirmed everywhere. Here, from msn-

I really didn't like the idea of Hutcherson at all. I haven't seen any of Garfield's work, but judging by the picture, I like his look better, except I think he looks much too old to portray a high school Spidey.
But I don't think this movie is destined to break any records, anyway...

Awesome!
Hutcherson was a good choice, but Garfield is a great one! He's got a lot of great movies already under his belt (
Lions for Lambs,
Boy A,
Red Riding,
The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, etc.) and he gets bonus points for being in "Doctor Who"! He played Frank in "Daleks in Manhattan" & "Evolution of the Daleks", where he sported a southern accent that was quite convincing.
And if anyone's seen
I'm Here (it streams for free
here), you can tell how great an actor he is by voice alone.

Only saw him in the Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus and he was good in that.

I, too, have only seen him in Dr. Parnassus, but his character was my favorite in the film, so I'm happy to see him land the role. He does look significantly older than high school age, but if the cast of Grease could pull it off, there's no reason why he shouldn't. If they decide to pair him up with Mary Jane again instead of Gwen Stacey, I hope they make her a lot less whiny than Kirsten Dunst's version. That character just got worse and worse with each installment. Let's give Peter someone upbeat and optimistic, please.

Yeah, personally, I would rather they have Gwen Stacy be the love interest this time around, as I prefer her over Mary-Jane. I hope they maybe take some cues from "The Spectacular Spider-Man" animated series, which I thought did a great job at portraying the characters and did the whole Venom storyline a lot better than how Spider-Man 3 tackled it.
As for this new actor, I haven't seen him in anything else, so this will likely be my first exposure to him. Tobey was perfect casting as Peter, in my opinion, but hopefully, Garfield does well, too. I'm actually looking forward to this re-boot. Sam Raimi did a great job, but why not other directors give the web-slinger a shot? After all, comic book series keep on going with different writers and story editors. And both Tim Burton and Chrisopher Nolan each did great films involving Batman, in their special way. I didn't care for (500) Days of Summer, but I will give Webb the benefit of the doubt and trust him with these characters.

I'd rather the role go to Teresa Palmer (also mentioned in the article).

Yeah, I heard about this. These are going to be really hard for me to watch now (that she's married). Oh well, my Spider-Man movies will always be the Raimi flicks.

Entertainment Weekly has 15 new pictures from the set!-

Looks pretty good, I think. So, from what I infer from the pics, this film will return to the comic's roots with Spidey using a mechanical web dispenser instead of the ability coming from his mutation... And, I'm thinking that maybe Uncle Ben will stick around a bit longer than he did in the previous film? Would be a good choice I think, making the moment he inevitably dies more potent (and, if they're smart, they'll use this to manipulate the audience's expectations to keep us in suspense). But that's just speculation.
Also, I've since seen Garfield in
The Social Network and I thought he did a masterful job there. I'm excited to see how he fares in this piece. I still feel he looks a little old to play awkward teen Peter, but I think he'll do good for himself. And Emma Stone makes one sexy blonde...

Unlike the Avenegers, Disney has not much to do with this one, except maybe merchandise, not sure. Personally, I'm really mixed on this one. I hate the suit, but Andrew Garfield seems really nice.
