Well, I think being skewed with the Fab Four has been deliberate since Disney aims to get the same rebirth with TPATF. Although I think I would have appreciated it more if the rest of the 90s films got the same recognition since I have been getting the vibes that this film would fit well with the Renaissance judging from the reviews I have been reading (but I have yet to see the the film, so don't start throwing tomatoes at me if you beg to disagree

)
Hunchback and Herc seemed non-existent in the documentary, as well as the 70s and 80s pre-TLM films.
And I believe that the attention given to Pocahontas won't be the same if Vanessa Williams was not the host

I think that the only reason the others weren't showcased were because the other films were more similar to The Princess and the Frog. And the ones most popular with kids today and their parents.

I saw the special (thank god for Youtube) and loved it. Glad they were able to bring Dick Van Dyke and his story was adorable. I can understand why the 60s/70s were somewhat "erased" maybe due to the studio losing its stride at the time (yes I know Jungle Book/Mary Poppins redeemed Disney's ability to produce family film)

I missed the first 20 minutes. I tuned it around the time they started talking about the music. I totally forgot about it.
Anyway, I really didn't see them promote
Beauty and the Beast much at all (I was surprised).
The Lion King was the only movie it seemed they paid a lot of attention to. Maybe they slobbered their praise all over it in the 20 minutes I missed.

I'll watch it as soon as I can... I can't hear anything right now, though, since I can't use headphones while babysitting....

Some of the decades didnt go in depth like they should've. I was surprised at how much depth they went through with the 1970s and 1980s sections but the 1950s and 1960s were surprisingly skimped.
I agree to some extent. The 1950's and 1960's were glanced over pretty quickly, but to say they went in depth through the 1970's and 1980's? They mentioned a lot of flopped live action B-movies and treated them like they were somehow important. Almost no words on the animated classics and the Disney Afternoon.
Disney wrote:And the 2000s was just Ratzenberger talking nothing but PIXAR PIXAR PIXAR!
Well, besides
Lilo & Stitch, Disney didn't achieve much in the 2000's, did they?
But the general tone in *all* "behind the scenes" and "making ofs" and tributes is to never talk about anything from 1943-1949 or 1968-1988. Like it's forbidden territory.
estefan wrote:They did seem to ignore a lot of great films during the special, though (Hunchback of Notre Dame, Lilo & Stitch, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, The Great Mouse Detective, The Emperor's New Groove). However, they talked a lot about Pinocchio, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, The Jungle Book, The Little Mermaid and The Princess and the Frog.
Like I predicted: all the usual suspects. Disney only markets those movies, so they have to advertise them cash cows in every other special. Nobody better talk about Basil or Quasimodo!

Yeah I'm sure that's the approach they were going with too.
Is it just me or does it seem like the 1990s and the 2000s seem to be one decade instead of two?

I've just watched it, too (thanks, UncleRemus) and I must agree that it was rather lame. If I didn't have nothing better to do, I wouldn't have finished it.
I don't get the criticism about Disney side-stepping ther race issue. No, they didn't adress it, but neither did they step around the issue very forced and visibly. I mean, it just didn't come up.
And I also don't understand the hate for Miley Cyrus. I mean, no, obviously I've never watched 'Hannah Montana', but I still don't get why people get so worked up about her. Even if you don't like the show, what's wrong with the combined 2 minutes that she's in? But who's Selena Gomez? What's her connection to Disney? I just kept thinking she's hot; is that wrong?
I didn't know half of those people, by the way.
The more I saw about 'Princess and the Frog', the less I wanted to go see it. From what I've seen, I'm very, very unimpressed.

Selena Gomez is the star of the Disney sitcom "Wizards of Waverly Place" (the only current Disney sitcom worth caring about, to be honest).

I watched the special this past Friday and it was good! Vanessa Williams was the host did a good job to that, but many of these celebrities talking about Disney movies are just fun to watched. I'm glad to see the special once again! I hope I can't wait to see "Princess and the Frog" when it comes out this coming Friday.

I agree with Whoopi. It's been what, a million years since there's been a new princess? I've been waiting for her.
