I'm 24 years old, and I appreciate old school. And it's not just for cartoons, either (any cartoons, not just Disney). For example, I still have an old NES, with all the old Mario games and such. And I'm always prowling YouTube for really old TV spots (commercials, station IDs, etc.).

Sorry i meant old skool like the old mickey, i also had mario games nd stuff up to a couple of years ago, nd i'm def a big kid at heart what i'm saying is that not all but some ppl like young teenagers may not care for it... But their are prob ppl our age who do like old cartoons, but i personally don't see that much of it, also, i always try showing my lil one the old mickey nd all the disney classics, if you check the thread that has the photo collection of disney stuff i just posted all my disney stuff nd u will see all the stuff i have nd collect from when i was young till now.... Its good to see more ppl that feel this way

I grew up with Mickey, but more as a company icon. He didn't really get my attention until I was about 9I had an astounding interest in trains and Thomas the Tank when I was young Most of my Disney experiences came from their features, most of those being ones made in my lifetime.

Never had a NES, SNES, or Saturn, but I definitely don't mind playing old nintendo or playstation games. I'm playing FF7 right now!

The business and cultural factors cited here for why these characters need to be re-introduced and made relevant to a new generation are all perfectly reasonable. Marketing practices, changing demographics, etc...they're all true, for better or worse. But during the studios early heyday, the shorts featuring Donald, Mickey, et al. appealed to all ages because of their artistry - the animation itself plus the humor, warmth, stories, etc.. The quality was such that years later children who had never seen a handcrank telephone or a phonograph or any of the other trappings that date these cartoons still loved them (the same can be said about Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, and the other celebrated cartoons of the era). They may have thought Donald's crooner voice sounded silly compared to the contemporary singers they knew but that didn't stop them from enjoying the cartoon. Classics become classics for a reason - they're able to transcend the time and circumstances they were made in to have something to offer future and/or foreign audiences.

I just don't think it's necessary to lower these characters to the level of an average two-year old (compare Donald in Mathmagic Land to "which door has a diamond on it" on the Clubhouse show). And I don't think we should sell kids short by assuming they can't appreciate something that hasn't been specifically targeted to them. This doesn't mean only Vault Disney material is of value. A modern Mickey Mouse can be great - but if MM had originally started out as what he is now, would he have become the iconic character he did? I don't think so. I've seen some of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse - it's so very sweet and cute. And so, so boring and neutered of any wit and personality. For a show that strives so hard to be benign and reassuring, it's actually kinda off putting. I mean, you can't tell me that's really Donald - he's been replaced by pod Donald.

I'm a Gen X-er so that makes me older than dirt compared to most of you here. I didn't grow up watching The Little Mermaid on VHS every day after school. But I don't begrudge today's kids & teens their childhoods. Disney Channel has some decent, even fine programming for them and I don't doubt that 10 years from now (I'd have said 20 but the nostalgia cycle seems to have speed up along with most everything else) there will be high school and college students fondly remembering the Imagination Movers and Wizards of Waverly Place. But will they have as vivid memories of Clubhouse Goofy getting painting lessons from Daisy as older generations do of Classic Goofy driving on the freeway?

P.S. I once saw a bit of Dora the Explorer while babysitting my niece. Dora yelled every single line and all I could think was, "thank heavens I don't have a kid and have to listen to this all the time". They ought to show it in sex ed classes - it might cut down on the teen pregnancy rate.

On the money issue, "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" has SO much merchandise. Merchandise aimed at little kids is so numerous that, on a merchandising side, it makes sense to use Mickey & friends (and Pooh & friends, too) in little kids' shows.

Didn't The Three Musketeers sell pretty well, though? I might be confusing this with older projects I read about, but weren't other Mickey & friends projects in the works in the past few years?
