Details have been released on September 8th's Bedknobs and Broomsticks: Enchanted Musical Edition. The slipcovered single disc will boast a digitally restored and remastered transfer of the 139-minute cut, the deleted song "A Step in the Right Direction", featurettes "The Wizards of Special Effects" (new) and "Music Magic: The Sherman Brothers" (old), and more to be announced.
Hmm, remastered huh? Do I smell a Blu release in the near future? Haha.
By remastered they likely just mean they made a new master print that was later used for the digital transfer. Given Disney's past uses of the word "remastered," there's likely to be only a few minor differences that wouldn't really be noticeable.

However, if they mean "restored and remastered" in the Warner Brothers way...well, we may be in for a treat, even if it's not on Blu. For example, the old DVD of Blade Runner is...egh. Comparing it to the remastered version (released a year before all the multi-disc DVD/Blu-Ray/HD-DVD sets - which all contained the remastered version - came out) was like night and day. Given that roughly the same amount of time has passed between releases (9 years), maybe Bedknobs and Broomsticks will have a new "wow!"-worthy restored/remasterd PQ like Blade Runner's.

And regarding the special features...I have a feeling "Wizards of Special Effects" may be the only new thing, with "more to be announced" simply being the scrapbook, film facts, David Tomlinson recording session, two cartoons, and the four trailers.

I wouldn't mind if "Music Magic" was the complete version Kelvin keeps talking about, as the DVD one is shortened apparently.

Well this is a puzzle. "Digitally Restored".

All restorations these days are digital, so you could expect it to mean a whole new state-of-the-art restoration such as on Sleeping Beauty Platinum.

However, if that was the case, wouldn't you expect a Blu-ray release too? I would. On the other hand a "digital" restoration could be somebody messing about with filters on an existing master to add/remove sharpness/grain/contract etc. But I would expect that to be simply described as a remastering, not a restoration (because I would never describe simply digital filters as a restoration).

I guess it depends on that All-New means too - it could be new (to us) but have been restored ages ago, any time in the last 5 years or more. In which case, like other Disney restorations, it's not considered good enough for a Blu-ray release.

I guess we can only judge the results when we see them on the DVD.

At first when I read the front page, I was all excited, but it doesn't say that "A Step in the Right Direction" was found and put back in the film- it probably just means that the song will be a bonus feature. It probably is on the old DVD, too. I really do need to pull it out. I've been meaning to watch the film, anyway.

Didn't Disney advertise the re-releases of Oliver and Company and The Sword in the Stone as new restorations when they really were recycled masters?

Oh, I didn't mean that I've never seen the film- I grew up with it! It has been a while since I've watched it, and it's been so long since I've watched the DVD bonus features that I need to refresh my memory!

Matt So what is actually new from this release?
Something called Wizards of Special Effects, it runs like 8 mins I think?

If that is all that is being included in this re-release of a highly wonderful unrated classic, then Im calling FOUL! on Disney.

What is this UD site people sometimes talk about around here?!

According to the BBFC, 00:07:43:15, but that's presumably slightly sped-up for PAL. I can also tell you that it will be hosted by a Disney Channel tween star. Which one, you'll have to guess, but I'll give you a big hint:

J_NIFF_R ST_N_

And in news that Bedknobs fans may care more about, "theatrical trailers" has been added to Disney's listings for this.

Harper! is the host for this 7min fluff piece?

Was Selena too busy to host?

7mins is too short to cover anything really except those travel log and Looney Tunes and Tom And Jerry cartoons.

Maybe they just wanted Jennifer Stone to host...?

I geuss so, she's an ok actor, its just I thought Disney would of gone with a bigger star to host is all. Maybe Jennifer's a big fan of Bedknobs and she choose to host.
