Mmmm yeah it sounds nice, and I'm sick of waiting for so long. I hope it'll be released in 2005 and not 2006.

Mermaid Kelly, I am HIGHLY anticpating this Platinum release. It is the one Platinum that I am looking forward to the most! The Little Mermaid has been my favorite Disney films since I was really young and Ursula has been my favorite character since then too. I can't wait to see the restoration and the great extras to be included. This will probably be the one and only Platinum release that I will get the gift set for.
And the wait begins...
By the way, I really like your avatar. I think I am going to get the poster of that. It would also make a great cover for the gift set.

I wonder if Disney will "touch up" the minister in The Little Mermaid for DVD release. Now, I personally don't believe this
urban legend, but I just kind of figure Disney would clean it up so this urban legend doesn't live on.

never heard about that one, that would depend if the Aladdin DVD will have the "good teenagers take off your clothes" rumor wiped out of our memories
It doesnt sound like a big controversy like the Lion King one. Then again there was a naked woman in The Rescuers and they never bothered to correct that did they?

Thank you!

I agree that would be the PERFECT cover for the gift box set!!
Oh and I want the poster too, but I have no idea where I could get it

If you know, please tell me!! See, I'm in the middle of re-doing my room in an underwater/mermaid theme

The walls are being painted an aqua blue, and I'm hanging my Disney lithographs all around my room (that's yet another reason why I'm antious for the dvd, more Ariel lithos!) I'm getting a new tv stand, a celing light/fan, and eventually a fuzzy rug! Plus, my Ariel snowglobes, dolls, etc. are going to be fancifully placed around my room. I also have other figurines of mermaids and fairies that will be displayed as well. But anyway that poster would be so nice for my room so if you know somewhere where I could find it (for a fair price), please let me know!

Thanks!

I think that when The Little Mermaid comes out, it will be one of the highest selling platinums, maybe even the highest. Out of everyone I know, The Little Mermaid is in most everybody's "top 3" Disney movies. Also, as we all know from this forum, MANY of us can't wait for it to be released. A lot of my friends don't really like Disney that much, but they still say Little Mermaid is the best one (except for Victoria, who prefer's Lion King). I even belong to an email list of tons of "Arielholics" as we call ourselves, hee hee.
http://littleariel.com/ nice website, I've liked it for quite some time. I joined the forum, but I rarely ever go there because I'm always spending all my time here!!

But I'm rambling on, my point is, I think Little Mermaid will sell in gianormus quantities (I know that's not a real word) I think about The Little Mermaid Platinum practically every day!

I am literally counting the days till October 2006, PLEASE let that be the release date!!!! I'm pretty sure it will be, but if they change it AGAIN

, oh my god I think I would go crazy.
But anyway, three cheers for Ariel

Click on the link above to order the poster. Can't beat it for only $13.99. I plan on getting it myself in the near future. Hope this helps...
Also, I agree with the thought that this will be one of the highest selling Platinums to be released, as it seems everyone really enjoys the film.

The priest thing was the secondary contoversy over TLM, it was the fallic shape of the castle on the theatrical poster that was the big controversy. As for his knee being "fixed," I hope not, but I'm afraid it will be.
As for The Rescuers, yes, when the problem was brought to Disney's attention, they actually caused the media attention themselves, and recalled all the copies and then reissued corrected versions, as part of their 'promise for family-friendly entertainment' or something to that effect. I actually approve of that move on Disney's part, though I wish I had a copy of the original, just to say that I did. From what I understand, it was almost undetectable by the human eye, though, so it doesn't make much a difference.

You know, I'm not too worried about the Priest thing, it's not important to the movie so changing it really wouldn't affect anything. I'm more worried about "The Blackfish" in the Under The Sea segment. My understanding is that some groups are not all that happy with that particular stereotype. Not my place to determine how someone may feel about that, but I really hope it's not touched.

Well, if either of those scenes are changed, I'll think of it every time. That, and the notion of watching something other than the actual theatrical run, is enough to make it a big no-no.

I know, me too

That's why I hunted down (and finally found!) a limited issue dvd. I still hope they wouldn't change something like that. On the other hand, I'd love a new song/scene! That would be great! It would be optional of course, like Beauty and Lion King.

What's wrong with the Blackfish? How is it a stereotype?

You know, I'm not happy with the portrayal of Slim in A Bug's Life. You know, he's a typical presentation of a nurotic, thin and gangly white-guy geek. He is so like many of my caucasian friends. It's all swings and roundabouts.

I agree with your sarcasm 2099, it really shouldn't be too big a deal. To me the LM scene is really innocent, and certainly never intended to offend. But, like I said before, it's not my place to determine how other people should feel about it.
Here's a picture, if it doesn't work a link is below:

What's sighted as a stereotype is the big red lips, the large chest, and the "Aretha Franklin" type voice. To me it looks like may of the other fish in the segment, it just happens to be black in color. To each their own I suppose, but I hope it stays.

And Jessica Rabbit's "chest" wasn't stereotype or offensive to some? not to me but if
that is considered stereotype and offensive for a whoopin 3 seconds.... then Disney has gone mad

is it confirmed that they're making changes or is this speculation? I wouldn't understand at all

No no no, I've never even read or heard a comment from Disney concerning this particular sequence. It's not even really speculation. I've heard complaints before, and also read complaints that certain orginizations find the scene offensive.
I don't mean to worry you guys, I apologize if that's what I've done. I thought this was something that LM fans knew about. I hope it's a non-issue and that those who find it offensive can let it go.
Blackfish

As for the Blackfish, keep in mind that a black entertainer is singing the lyrics (Samuel Wright sang the voice of Sebastian). It's like saying the character of Chef on "South Park" is a racial stereotype...("yeah, but a black guy does his voice, so it must be okay.")
Keep in mind that in the Disney Treasures collections, the "black stereotype" scenes were all left intact, (though with the boring apologies from Mr. Leonard Maltin).

Maybe during the song, just before the fish appears, a Pop-Up Video-esque bubble with Leonard Maltin's smiling face will appear just above the fish and explain it to us.
First of all, it's a navy blue fish. IT'S NOT EVEN BLACK. As Owlz said, it's a black person singing it. I bet this person even had big lips, because characters are often drawn to at least slightly resemble the voice actor. Even if she didn't, they could just say it's supposed to resemble Aretha Franklin, which would be entirely complimentary and harmless.
